Why does Pokemon still have 1996 gameplay?

And people just let Nintendo get away with it?

People get angry with Assassins Creed and Call of Duty when Pokemon has not changed in almost 20 years. They also get away with making remakes that are simply graphical updates.

Why does Pokemon get a free pass? It literally uses ancient gameplay mechanics.

The real question we're all wondering is why does your avatar still have a Santa cap?

Better question, why does AssCreed still have 1996 gameplay?

#6 Posted by Renegade_Fury (16947 posts) -

Beats me. Pokemon's lack of change is why I don't buy the games anymore.

#7 Posted by ninjapirate2000 (2929 posts) -

Because JRPG's don't change.

It's his nose.

Because Nintendo's main constituents are kids and teens and there will always be those. I was actually surprised at how little the game has changed, myself. Bought X last year pretty much out of nostalgia (haven't played since Red), and it's true.

You don't need to fix something that needs no improvement.

Phazon loves Pokemon Rumble.

Because JRPG's don't change.

This one.

They don't need to change apparently.

That's the thing about most Japanese developers and publishers, they're oblivious to public opinion. If the game sells well they will keep making more of it just like Activision, they don't give a shit about the sensible people who actually require innovation to want a game, they only care about the audience that currently enjoys their games, the ones that don't complain (sheeple).

I didn't know double battles existed in Red/Blue.

Phazon loves Pokemon Rumble.

And don't get me started on Xenoblade.

As someone who loves JRPGs, I can say that I see your point. It's just a taste thing I guess. You love it or you hate it. I personally love a god JRPG, and even though the majority have very similar gameplay to one another, there's usually some kind of twist that sets individual games apart. That's what I've found at least. Plus, several recent ones have reminded true to what many people love about JRPGs while still delivering innovation.

Why are most console games more casual than the easiest pc F2P games?

Who cares, these questions will never be answered OP.

Assassins creed has gameplay? thats news to me

#20 Posted by DocSanchez (1395 posts) -

@PhazonBlazer: You'll notice no one actually answers your point, because they can't. So they attack you instead. Lazy, dumb, and enhances your point 100%. People let Nintendo get away with anything.

Because its nintendo and nintendo is still in the 90's. Isn't this a known fact by now? Pretty sure it is and the only ones ignoring it are teh nintendo fans.

@Mario1331: apparently change for the sake of it is good.

Just look at final fantasy 13, everyone loves that game

*you obviously get my point

1996 called. It wants its Pokémon game back.

I told them I'd call back.

I'm not going to call back.

If people like it so fucking what?

People also like Dynasty Warriors, that fucking game hasn't changed since the second one when they put horses in it...

There are quite a few games that got it right first (lets discount Dynasty Warriors from that list) then the sequels completely fuck it up, sometimes change is bad and all what was needed was expanding the content rather than changing the gameplay.

Why did Sony use 20 year old analog sticks out of a warehouse for the Playstation 3 controller? I do not know.

Free pass? *looks at recent Pokemon reviews, then looks at Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed reviews* I think you've got that backwards, son.

#36 Posted by ghostwarrior786 (3271 posts) -

Because ninty sells its games based on nostalgia

#37 Posted by ReadingRainbow4 (12788 posts) -

I haven't played a pokemon game since Red/Blue. They just seem so bleh.

#38 Edited by madsnakehhh (13969 posts) -

Does it really matter?

*watch sales numbers...

Yeah it doesn't. Anyway, the last Pokemon i played was Black in the DS, it was my fourth Pokemon game and yeah, it's pretty much the same concept, but the game is really fun to play, if people have an issue with that...then don't buy the game, nobody here get's a "free pass" like you said, if the game is fun, then people will buy it, period, even if it is the same game over and over again (Pokemon, Assassin's Creed, GEOW, CoD, etc...)

I feel like the only person in the entirety of the internet that doesn't bitch about games not changing or being rehashy.

Why does Uncharted/halo/asscreed/gearsofwar/cod/battlefield/infamous/killzone/Mario/Zelda have the same gameplay for all their games?

The question I'm wondering is why you have no idea what's happened with the pokemon series in the past 18 years

The metagame/competitive scene of pokemon has seen a massive change since 1996. In fact, Pokemon Pearl and Diamond had one of the biggest impacts on it.

I stopped caring about Pokemon after Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire.
