Why Does A Big Budget PC-Exclusive Like Arma 3 Look So...Mediocre?

where are these supposed master race graphics? its not like this is some small indie title. this game has a real budget behind it, and yet the end result is 360-ps3 level at best. when are those $2000 rigs gonna get a real workout? when next-gen ports make their way over to pc? its sad when even pc excluvies aren't even pushing the hardware

Because it's gameplay over graphics. Arma is a simulator...and that is it's selling point. If you want eye candy with decent gameplay go play Battlefield. If you want real tactics then you go Arma.

But...the pics you posted look better than anything that is currently on consoles. Only game that might competeis TLoU but it's level-based. This is open world.

My only issue with ArmA 3 is the poor optimization. Though that seems to be a trend lately.

Consolites obviously jelly, you will never get a game that looks this good with so many stuff going on.

True. It's a shame too.

It has good graphics, just not good post processing, no artistic touch ups.

IMO, if you're going for a realistic aesthetic, make it look BETTER than reality, the ARMA devs don't know how to do this.

Anyways, how is Arma3? Worth picking up? Infact if I'm accepted into the Steam Sharing beta, I'll just borrow it from a buddy!

It's probably the most photorealistic shooter around, taking place in 270km enviroment.

It's also an actual pc game with depth and scope and thinking. Consoles dont have titles like these, mostly X = win. Always X.

Some of the user missions are dire. Thankfully the rating systems on steamworkshop helps root out the good from the shit.

I played a few hours of COOP yesterday and it's fun. Night missions are particularly good as you feel like a James Bond (Timothy Daltan) badass. And you get tacticool lazers that only show up with night vision.

Two things:

-Arma III is in no shape or form "big budget"

-Arma III pushes even the strongest PCs to the max and it would melt next-gen consoles. But it's the scale that's pushing it, not detail. I know console gamers are used to petite linear levels, so I will use analogy. Seen Killzone 3? Looks good, doesn't it? But it looks mediocre as hell compared to Fight Night details-wise.

What's the difference between the two besides VBS being tailored more for a country's military training?

Wouldn't it be similar to X-Plane 10 vs X-Plane 10 Pro (FAA-spec) and MS Flight Simulator X vs Lockheed Martin's Prepar3D?

Maybe that's why it looks bad to you because a system like that has to run the game at low. 

If the PS4 can't do BF4 at 1080p 60fps at high settings then there's no hope for it running Arma III in its current state

Nah it actually looks quite nice but the game is completely unoptimized which makes it unplayble even on high end rigs.

What Clyde is pointing out is the DaveKeeh's of system wars i.e terrible trolls who seem to think they are getting some kind of rise out people, will continue to post the same drivle time and time again for as long people quote and reply to them.

Don't feed the trolls, doesn't just mean don't argue with them. The best thing to do is ignore them and never quote or respond in any way. Besides it's a lot more fun to watch a troll melt down from lack of attention that it is to give them what they want.
