Why did Sony try to brag about 1 Billion hours of PSN?

When the very next day Microsoft said they had 2 Billion hours of XBL play from Xbox one?

what the heck was the point of that I know its your anniversary and everything but why embarass yourself like that

microsoft basically just made you look like a utter fool, couldn't you have come up with a better brag that actually matters or something?

PS4: herpa derp we have 1 billion hours of ps4 play on psn this year yayy aren't we special

XB1: we have way less ppl and we play way more try 2 billion in our first year kid and get back to us

Sony's numbers came from online play only.

Microsoft's numbers were playtime in general.

Being the current gen 8 console with the world's most powerful console, it makes sense to let the public know users are embracing PSN.

@freedomfreak: No point Freedom. You could say that 100 times. All the Lems will completely ignore that simple fact and just get on saying the same thing over and over.

Even if xb1 has more online play time that would likely be due to the fact they've released more online focussed games while Sony has released ore single player focussed games. Sony releases Infamous(single player only), Microsoft releases Titanfall(online multiplayer only).

Either way, Microsoft has been doing this all gen. Sony says "10,000,000 PS4 sold", Microsoft says "11,000,000 Xbox sold" then a disclaimer at the very bottom hidden from all view "numbers include xb1 and xb360". Sony says "1 billion hours ONLINE playtime", Microsoft says "2 billion hours spent playing games".

Sonys entire marketing campaign is spent making Microsoft look bad. Microsoft spent their entire marketing campaign pulling whatever bullshit numbers they can mix together to try to appear better than Sony and just mincing words and tiny disclaimers to ensure their words are accurate.
