So Killer instinct is the latest game to join the 720p club. There are a lot of rumors about many multiplatform not being able to achieve the desired 1080p which is most likely true at this stage.

So I wonder when MS is gonna use its mighty cloud to assist its weak hardware. Was it a lie ? Can the cloud truely add anything to Xbone?

The cloud will give an improvement of exactly 720 pixels.

It will come when The Cloud feels its ready. You can't just order it around.

You have to respect it.

720p vs 1080p isn't quite the same small difference we've had with the xbox and ps3.

Maybe the Cloud will exist when all X1's start becoming some sort of super computer because all of it around the globe will always be connected to each other 99% of the time it's turned on.

Those low power state X1's around the globe will give extra boost to those who are actively playing. That's on top of the other X1 servers.

Wishful thinking xD

Delicious.

#16 Posted by mrmcygan (882 posts) -

Well it would be pretty difficult.

1. The game would always have to be online and then there is the issue of internet speed.

2. The things Microsoft was saying the cloud could assist in were AI/Physics which are CPU heavy not GPU.

3. Resolution of a game is pretty much determined by the GPU.

4. I honestly doubt the power of the xbox cloud. The games that are using it seem to only use it in minor ways. Titanfall is said to use the cloud for some physics and AI work but judging from gameplay I don't really see why to use for the cloud. The game does'nt really have complex physics and AI really isn't resource heavy especially for an online only game.

The consoles could all do 1080p, but then games would look as bad as current gen games do on low end PC (still better than current gen consoles, but definitely not impressive).

So, in order to add more graphical goodness, they lower the frame size.

You say, let's use the cloud! Well, the cloud is just some server somewhere in Microsoft's data centers that crunches numbers and returns them to the console. This brings some inherent problems. One is latency. It takes time to send data ot the server and bring it back. What's mroe that time will vary from user to user. So it's not like you could offload say, Anti-aliasing because you'd need that data back EVERY frame, or every 16 milliseconds. Obviously, that ain't gonna happen. You could, possibly do stuff like offload physics calculaitons, but again, they would have to be somehting that can't be interacted with ona frame by frame basis. IT would be limited only to things that are not latency sentitive... that's not many things. AI, could be another possibility.

Another issue is that not everyone would have access to it. Ok, so you've offloaded some high level decision making of the AI to the cloud... great, except that 40% of your customers aren't connected, so now they are oign to have a poorer gaming experience than those who are online.

Yet another issue is scalability. Thye more you offload, the more data has to be processed. Imagine turning on your game, and having to wait in a queue, because there aren't enough AI slots in the data center closest to you for you to use.

I don't think the cloud is gonna work.

It's useless.

#20 Posted by Truth_Hurts_U (9217 posts) -

It's because cloud was all hype to get people to buy into always online.

Any person that knows how the internet works and figures in latency will know right away... It's all lies.

Lol, I can just picture a large aircraft hangar with a floating storm cloud in the center of it. Scientists in labcoats holding clipboards examining it and then one of them says that.

If only someone could make this .gif into reality.

The Cloud = Data collection + dedicated servers.

I will be much better at collecting all your bomb threat speech to text files in one convenient place for the NSA to search. Oh and the games graphics improvement... lol no

You mad cuz your Xbone has turned into a colossal failure not ready to be forgotten any time soon? LOL. Get used to it, its WiiU's brother.

#25 Posted by Daious (1260 posts) -

Cloud can't magically turn games into 1080p. It doesn't work that way. Physics? Likely. Background AI? Likely. Actual performance and graphical fidelity? No.

It's not like PS4 has an amazing lineup of 1080p games. The only games that are running at 1080p are Forza and Killzone, and KZ Single player runs at 30 fps, the MP runs at 60 fps but it looks like crap.

Remember XBox vs PS2? Cows got destroyed in everything but sales and JRPGs (although the XBox had some good ones too) and they never thought hardware mattered. Now look at them they suddenly think that hardware is everything despite the XBox One having better games.

The majority of games are multi-platform. If multi-platform games are better on the PS4, like they were on the 360 compared to the PS3, then the cheaper and better performing hardware is certainly a deciding factor (again, like it was on the 360-PS3).

WTF even the 7770 at 1080p kick the living ass of current gen consoles, what the hell are you smoking

Yeah because Killzone SF at 1080p look anything like a current gen game.

Dude how many games are not 1080p on PS4.? those are a minority,it is on xbox one that only 3 games are 1080p and all 3 are not impressive at all.

Killzone SF framerate is unlocked so it can be 40 45 FPS or even more, and online is 1080p 60 FPS.

The xbox landed almost 2 years after the PS2,so yeah it had to be more powerful, and game wise the PS2 mopped the floor with the xbox, and it wasn't just JRPG's.

So how did it feel to wait 2 years for GTA3 and 1 year for Vice City.? Oh and 6 months for GTASA?

Game wise it wasn't even close.

LOOOOL, PS2 owned Xbox in every aspect except hardware.

I can't imagine how the cloud would help with graphics , maybe it will keep player stats/behaviour and upload some pre baked AI or whatever .

At the end of next gen when MS pulls the plug all these features will be lost in time ......

Not true. Most PS4 exclusives and multiplats, are running at native 1080p.

lol, the only thing the original xbox had to brag about over Ps2 was hardware, and their first bragging point to argue for superiority over Playstation has been snatched away. xbox always got destroyed when it came to exclusive games compared to playstation consoles so lemmings last bragging rights were always things that DONT involve quality games (like hardware or internet).

with 360 lemmings tried to lower standards to enable xbox360 to compete with the quality of Ps3's superior game quality (from comparing aaae titles to include a rated titles that weren't even exclusive) thus the "only multiplats matter" DO YOU REMEMBER THAT LEMS?

lol, well now every multiplat will be superior on Ps4, superior multiplats was the reason I heard so many lems say they stuck with 360 when Ps3 destroyed the 360 in exclusive game quality. so what now lems, lol are exclusives BACK to being the main reason to get a console again and are multiplats back to not being the deciding factor of choosing a platform???? according to your last arguments buying a Ps4 over the x1 should be a no brainer now!

lol lems and their flip floppy arguments, truth is lems will switch their arguments to accommodate the situation the system is in, cows are slightly guilty but no where near the level of lems....lems were even making arguments to defend the always only drm and no used games policies for ms at one time.

Because DA CLOWD is a marketing gimmick.

Funny thing is, cloud bullshit might have been something that would be promising if Xbone had stayed always-online but because it isn't anymore it's split the potential userbase for it and devs will be less likely to use it. Bravo, Microsoft.
