That's obviously Shigeru Miyamoto. To begin with, he saved gaming with the NES and the Mario games, and he still manages to be quite relevant to this day.

ah kojima forget about him. but he does only make mgs, would be nice to see him make something else but im not complaining at all about a new mgs game, it looks incredible

He created Mario, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda. Star Fox, F-Zero and Pikmin. And has been involved with most iterations of these games that have pushed boundaries in their respective genres to massive new heights. No one is as recognizable as him when it comes to game development.

The only other person who can really compare to him, in terms of sheer recognizability, is John Carmack. Who doesn't have nearly as diverse a development history, but has the popularity.

Miyamoto and Kojima. Love em or hate em, they have changed gaming forever with Final Fantasy and MGS

You know what's so messed up about this question? Not the fact that the most obvious answer is pretty obvious and will be said normally, but the fact that the others are not even close to memorable in comparison imo. I guess good poster boys do a damn fine job of staying in peoples memories ie Stan Lee.

Carmack. Considering everything Gage accomplished was with the Quake engine. With game structure based around Carmacks general foundation. That engine valve calls source. Is heavily modified quake code.

Doom, Quake, Wolfenstien. The foundations of the FPS as we all know it today.
