I'm pushing thirty, got a baby coming in a month and a half, I work 1.5x normal teacher does here yet I still do all the chores, don't neglect my wife in the slightest and have a decent amount of time to play video games, and what's more I LOVE IT more than ever despite games not necessarily getting better. And to think that 4 years ago I was considering giving up on gaming altogether. By the way - tell you what the catalyst was. Last year I was writing my master's thesis which annihilated my gaming completely, and I had accumulated such a backlog that I devoured one game after another in no time and I thought this was just a temporary feeling but it remained.

Yeah, yeah, I know what you'll say - blog it - I don't care. Massive props to all working adults with families who are not only not ashamed but proud of their hobbies.

Anyone else found himself loving video games more than ever despite not getting any younger?

Well, video games aren't just for kids. They're apart of your life forever just like movies, books, TV, and music.

40 years old and i play more games than ever thanks to my Nexus 7 tablet, lot of people tell me to grow up because Video games are for kids but i don't care but i a fortunate to have a wife who does not restrict my hobby and actively supports my gaming.

There will be times when i feel a bit jaded with gaming but then that one game will come along and BAM, Back in the game.

Personally i think i may be having a mid life because i am really into my Retro games especially Voxel and Pixel games which is where my Tablet is king.

29 years of gaming, hopefully another 29 years more.

Here to HALO 20, master chiefs Nephew saves the universe, lol

I'm 44, married with 7 year old twin girls. I work full time, usually 45 - 50 hours per week but often more. I've been gaming for close on 40 years (started when I was 5) and have no intentions of stopping. What I don't do though is watch much TV, even the odd series I do start watching I'm rarely still following it by the end of the first series.

Video games help me escape reality and enjoy fascinating worlds and characters. So I'll keep gaming for as long as I live.

I find that people sort of don't get or look down on me when I say I'm a gamer.

Meanwhile if you told them you watched every sports game they don't bat an eye lash.

I'm a proud 30+ gamer. I don't live with my parents. i work every day. I have a beautiful gf who I don't ignore to ever play those games. But when I have time to myself I love to play video games. Not ashamed but I wish the world saw us differently.

I do have VERY little time for my favorite hobby. I spend more time reading and talking about games then playing them.

I always wonder if gaming will keep our brains sharp and thus we'll see fewer cases of alzheimer's.

Apparently playing video games can rejuvenate your mind and slow the aging process by even 7 years.

I'm 34 and as I have aged the steps backwards in gameplay from the 90's become more and more glaringly apparent with every console gen. PC has suffered slightly, but not anywhere to the degree that consoles have. For private reasons I don't ever want to go back to PC gaming (I was a primarily a PC gamer in the 90's).

I got Shadow Warrior and Metro Redux as gifts for the PS4 I just got a week or two ago. I guess I'm suffering from FPS exhaustion as I find myself playing The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth alot more than either of these 2 games.

All I want is a vague release date for XCOM2. Firaxis employee interviews have all but confirmed they're working on it. I'm willing to forgive Firaxis for releasing the still broken XCOM: Enemy Within.

I like games the same but am increasingly jaded by the industry behind them.

If they're every going to be considered "art" the disgusting monetization needs to stop.

If anything, I feel less inclined to play on higher difficulties. I don't think I have the patience anymore, or at least the willpower to go through a more challenging run.

I guess I'm.... casul..

Having said that, I still enjoy video games. I play as much as I can.

This place is starting to turn into Neogaf with the same topics.

Anyway..... I'm starting to lose interest in them. I'll maybe play for an hour or two each week.

Love video games as much as I used to. Now I don't have the time to enjoy them as much as I used to.

Not to mention I should be starting a new career within the next couple months (that has me working long days) and making enough money to afford to get married to my GF and start having kids... I doubt "time to play video games" is something I'll have anymore, period.

It's a shame too. Back when I had time, I didn't have money, and now that I have money, I have no time.

I love video games, but I have a more casual attitude to it now. I'll do it when I have the time.

But good luck with your future man, I think all the stuff you're about to do is more important and worthy of your time. When I start doing that stuff I won't even regret taking a step back from video games to do it.

same but sometimes there is that one game i love so much that i keep coming back to and set challenges for me to beat and get out of my usual comfort zone and the higher difficulty forces me to change my play style. Recent example is Evil Within on nightmare and akumu.

As we get older we get less patient and just to enjoy the games, but i still have that desire once in a while to see if i can push myself to do better. Another example is MGS Gz

Oh yeah, definitely. There are exceptions. Bayonetta 2 being the one for me.

You liked The Evil Within? I thought it was great, despite some weird game design choices, and one of the later chapters(12/13?) being really... just not well designed. Still, all in all, The Evil Within is cool.

Been gaming 30 years... Got my first console when I was a six year old kid. I like to believe that the hobby has always been catered to me as I grew up with it, but someday I'm sure I'll feel out of touch with it in a sense, though I'll never stop gaming.

There's an ebb and flow to it... Some years I've been super invested. Some years, I barely have time...

I love the hobby... Incredibly lucky to be there for its birth and see it become what it is, but I admit I'm starting to see the flaws in modern gaming from both creators and consumers alike and that bums me out a little.

Oh, I know. I'm entering an industry that I have been passionate about for years (honestly, probably since I was a very young kid but never really considered it until a couple years ago), but never up until this point really committed myself to getting into. The only reason I'm not going into details (and won't at this point) is because I've jumped around over the past year between different ideas for a career, focused on them, told everyone about them, and then they failed to come through. So, while I'm not superstitious or anything, there has been a consistent pattern and I'm not repeating it with this.

For those that know me, they can likely guess, but I won't be talking about it openly until I am actually working. Although, I am about halfway there and only need to start and finish training (just waiting on a start date).

love evil within. Close to plat trophy because i liked it so much. Its rate i attempt trophy hunting but this game is a nice challenge and i enjoy playing it.

Ch 12 was like something from RE6 or something. Really garbage.

Next game i enjoyed alot lately is shadow of mordor. Nemesis system is fun to use.

Nice. Yeah, it must've been that chapter if you disliked it that much. It was just weirdly designed, but besides that, it's good stuff.

There are few developers in the world that do shotguns as well as Shinji Mikami does.

I really want to get Shadow of Mordor. Like you said, the Nemesis system seems like a good time. I'll be keeping busy with Infamous: First Light tomorrow.

When was the birth of video games and were you old enough to understand it?

And what flaws from creators and consumers that bums you out?

Anyway, to answer the TC's question, The PS2 era was the last good era.

I'm still into gaming & enjoying it. however I feel like I'm not that dedicated as before, when I was younger I spend countless hours playing games until my dad comes in & tells me to take a break and play outside , now working & married I start the game and play like for an hour or 45 minutes then stop.

To be honest I don't think that its because I'm starting to lose interest, more like what was offered before was worth the time & pleasure than now.

I'm doing a similar thing now. I started out trying things I thought I should be doing but ended up pursuing something I love doing. And it's a tough journey for many reasons, so I get you. :-)

My enjoyment of the hobby peaked in my mid 20's, then started to slowly regress. Some time around 29 or 30, it was like a light switch turned off. I'm still into games, but I've become so much more picky about what I play and I don't put in nearly the same amount of hours as I used to.

@Salt_The_Fries: 36 years old here, father of a 9 and 11 year old boy and girl. I work 8 hours a day have 2 hours of commute time, have a dog that I walk 7 miles a night, and have chores, and family time, but always find time to game. How do i do it? Lack of sleep! I go to bet at 3AM and get up at 8:00. That leaves me from 11:30 - 3:00AM for gaming or doing whatever.

I stopped gaming for maybe 3-4 years during high school. Baldurs Gate, Diablo 1 and the whole PlayStation 1 gen brought me back as gaming started targeting adults and PC gaming got a renaissance of good rpgs in the late 90s too. I enjoy it a lot now, but I enjoyed it most back in that golden era of the late 90s. I am an rpg and strategy lover, which the PC had in droves, and PS1 jrpgs back then had good long western focused stories and not under age girls and creepy Japanese fetish crap that a lot of jrpgs have today.

Video games help me escape reality and enjoy fascinating worlds and characters. So I'll keep gaming for as long as I live.

So much this!!!! Everything can be going wrong around you, but you can get solace escaping into a great single player game. I have a co-worker who doesn't play single player games, and he is constantly trying to get me to play multiplayer with him. When i do he skips all the story, and rushes through stuff just to do it and talks the whole time. That is not the type of gaming I want. I am dealing with people all day, gaming is my time to escape to another world.

@PSP107: well, I mean, I wasn't around to play games in the early/late 70s, though I did play some of the very early "consoles" my uncle had, with screen overlays... But I'd confidently say that the modern day concept of the video game console became a thing with the Atari 2600 which my roots are planted firmly. I had roughly 40 carts, from pacman to space invaders, to legendary games like pitfall, Seacrest, enduro and jungle hunt.... Even later generation games like kangaroo and yars revenge were amazing... And still are a nice throwback to boot up.

As for my problems with the current game industry, I think the focus has shifted... While it's always been about making money, I think the Game companies are become less and less enthralled with pouring forward thought into new and inventive game design and more and more interested in Hollywood cinematic and playing it safe because of the risk of not making a return on massive bloated budgets.... The advent of the broken game release all but validates their emphasis on fiscal calander first, customer second.

I think the modern day gamer is different as well... Despite the lack of gameplay innovations and risk taking that bore the fruit of what gaming could be, we've become content with accepting the same flavored cheese every Tuesday like mice in the skinner box...

Indie games have remedied alot of the I'll feelings I sometimes get, because these are hungry passionate developers making games based on ideas and not formulas, but massive aaa games are trending downward to me.

I have been gaming since the early 1980s and it has been up and down during that time due to interest. My current interest dates back to 2006 and it has been kept that way since then. I do not know whether I will lose interest.
