Poll Which was the most powerful console last gen? (101 votes)

The PS3 was a bit more powerful than the 360 46%
They both had different strengths/weaknesses but ultimately they were about evenly matched 36%
The 360 was a bit more powerful than the PS3 19%

I know multiplats were generally better on the 360 especially early in the generation, probably because the PS3 was harder to develop for. The best way of comparing them is by judging from the best looking games on the respective console.

Some say the PS3 was more powerful, because of Uncharted 2/3, GOW, TLOU etc, they look good, though a few of the mentioned games had some minor frame rate issues and others say that the 360 was more powerful, often pointing at Halo 4 which also looks pretty good, maybe not as good as the best looking PS3 games but Halo 4 has more things going on at the same time than most games that generation with many NPCs on the screen and vehicles and smaller aircrafts involved in the battles as well.

I'll say even. Some exclusives looked amazing on the ps3 but I wouldn't say 360 games weren't anywhere close.

If we use GTAV as a benchmark, not a whole lot of difference.

PS3. Uncharted 3 and God of War 3 looked better than any game on 360.

Lol at people calling the 360 more powerfull then the PS3.

That's like saying a Fiat Panda is faster then a Honda s2000.

Yes it's faster , if the Honda is tied to a tree.

I say they are both even but PS3 did had one slightly advantage, it had Blu-Ray while the Xbox 360 did not meaning PS3 games were able to have one disc in some games while 360 had to use 2 discs for the lack of Blu-Ray.

They were evenly match. PS3's RAM was so putrid you couldn't even have party chats outside of games. 256MB for system and another 256MB for video. That was pathetic.

It had probably a faster CPU much harder to code for but a weaker GPU. They had different strengths and weaknesses. Most multiplatform games shone on 360 but PS3 had exclusives that were really hard to beat if devs knew what they were doing with the hardware. Tie at most otherwise slight edge to the 360 for having a better and easier architecture.

Both were about even, but when both were pushed to their limits, the PS3 had a slight edge.

The PS3 had Blu-ray, and a more powerful processor (that was also more difficult to develop for)

The XBOX 360 had a more standard processor, and more advanced GPU

The only time I really noticed a difference was when I would buy NCAA Football games on PS3. It almost made my eyes bleed. It didn't make much sense though since Sony exclusives looked better than M$ exclusives imo.

There is nothing on the xbox360 that looks as good as God of War 3, Heavy Rain, Beyond 2 Souls, TLOU, Uncharted 2/3 and probably a few more.

The PS3 wins in terms of graphics/power. There is no debate. I don't care how hard the games are to make. I don't care what it says on paper. I don't care about any of those garbage reasons I have read so far in supporting the 360.

All I care about is which console shows the prettiest graphics on my HDTV and the PS3 is the winner.

You have to be a delusional fanboy to say the 360 was more powerful.

Power depended primarily on how you utilized the assets each system sported. PS3 was generally considered inferior, however, because most games were not built from the ground-up for it due to its complex architecture and the cell required developers to adapt to it. X360 benefited from this early on and, after market share tipped heavily in their favor, most publishers/developers targeted X360 as their lead platform and ported to cell after the fact.

Ps3, but it doesn't matter because It's lacking in memory - Ps3's is split, has 18MB's less due to its OS, + 360 has some nice eDRAM - and Cell was a bitch.

''Both had different strengths/weaknesses''.

I would say that, at the end, 360 was slightly more capable due to it's superior GPU and better RAM solution.

PS3 was stronger. Even though it had the RAM bottleneck, PS3 produced the best looking games by far (at the end of the gen)

On paper PS3 and if you coded around the PS3's architecture you could get better performance out of it, in reality the 360 was more versatile, easier to develop for and you got a better ROI in terms of man hours put into development and the resulting game at the end.

In action ... was an epic fail considering all the promises and hype before its release and the results after where it couldnt even play better multiplatform games vs X360

PS3 but Sony shot itself in the foot with the stupidly complex Cell CPU, so 3rd party games were mostly superior on the X360.

The bluray was mostly a detriment to the system. See the long load times, increase price tag, and mandatory installs.

The "faulty" DVD drive was not intentional so much as penny pinching.

The hype for the cell was hilarious. PS3 never came close to what it was hyped up to be. I'd say they were evenly matched.

This.

"Teh Cell" was a horrible move by Sony. So was the RAM partition.

The 2 consoles were really close though, and towards the end of the gen the PS3 finally starting getting some superior multiplats (GTA5 and Bioshock: Infinite). Again, the differences were negligible most of the time.

Yup and I'm glad the PS4 doesn't have "teh cell."
