Ninja Gaiden

Zelda

Halo

Metal Gear

WoW

Street Fighters

Starcraft

Counter Strike

P.S. and which one is the least hardcore?

I wouldn't classify neither of them as hardcore, for the fact that casuals like them as well.

What is with the need to label games as hardcore? casual? etc etc.

In terms of LAN gaming events CS and Starcraft would be the most popular.

casuals like Ninja Gaiden?

I'm not sure, but my father who almost never plays video games did show some interest in some games up there like Final Fantasy.

Didn't see that one :P

Ninja Gaiden wins. Everything else is pretty much casual.

*ahem* There's no such thing as Hardcore Gaming.

I don't see anyone playing Halo online while the temp is 20 Degrees F in their room with just their undies on and getting the most kills.

I also don't see anyone playing Counter Strike with the PC strapped to their back and a table top belted to their waist with a monitor, keyboard, and mouse while walking over hot coals barefoot and getting the most kills.

Nor do I see anyone speedrunning SMB 3 plummeting to their doom with a parachute that absolutely will NOT open unless you save the princess before their body slams into the ground.

Bad way of thinking. I guess Suzuki GSXR-1000s aren't racing bikes because casuals can buy them and ride them on the street.

I wouldn't say CS because I know quite a lot of people that play it casually. Although I guess if you think about it, it does have the biggest tournaments. Meh who cares, I have other things to worry about in my lifetime than what games are casual or hardcore lol.

Probably Starcraft or CS due to huge pro tourneys revolving around them. And both have huge followings in places like Korea.

Do you have to be a "hardcore" gamer to play a "hardcore" game? Does being a "hardcore" gamer limit what games you can enjoy? for instance, if you are "hardcore" can you play something like Viva Pinata or Super Mario Galaxy, if you enjoy them?

praised and enjoyed mostly by the hardcore crowd:

Ninja Gaiden - hardcore

Zelda - both

Final Fantasy - both

Halo - both, a lot of casuals though

Metal Gear - both, more hardcore though

WoW - both, a lot of casuals

Street Fighters - more hardcore than casual

Starcraft - more hardcore than casual

Counter Strike - more hardcore than casual

P.S. and which one is the least hardcore?

Mystery_Writer

WoW and Halo are the least hardcore. They are the most popular so when considering the number of hardcore players, most players are probably casual.

Why not a franchise like AC? They always get slammed in reviews, but the dedicated fans keep the series alive.

Oh, wait, to clarify I meant Armored core, and it gets slammed a little less than I thought in reviews, but still it's mainly the loyal crowd that keepsit alive.

None of those titles are "Hardcore". This whole Lemming notion (they are the ones that started the whole chest thumping hardcore/casual debate), of what constitutes hardcore is just ridiculous.

Look, just because a game like Gears of Bore terms the difficulty levels in the game Casual or Hardcore, doesn't mean that playing any type of video game makes you hardcore, and therefore better than some that likes to play the Sims.

And on the subject of Gears of Bore, that is probably one of the most disappointing games I've ever come across.

Well most hardcore is probably Metal gear solid or ninja gaiden (neither is very hardcore, but both are much less casual then the others on the list)

Most casual is either Wow or Halo on that list.. (final fantasy/starcraft are also very casual, but that is more in Japan/Korea.
