Which is a bigger deal breaker: 720p or 30fps

Both suck. I've been gaming at 1080/60 since 2011.

I understand 30fps when you have fixed hardware but 720p in 2014 is just inexcusable. 1080p should be the standard.

30 fps is rubbish.

60 fps satisfies my evaluation about twice as much as 30, although these days 60fps looks like a slideshow to me; 120 satisfies my eval twice as much as 60, 144 a touch more than 120.

Screen resolution doesn't impact my gameplay, fps does. Neither are deal breakers for me, however.

Depends on the genre.. Fighting games, Platformers, and Side scrollers don't necessarily have to run at 60 FPS. ..but I expect everything else to (yea I know its not going to happen).

30 FPS, 720p isn't a big deal if you're playing on a large TV. 30 FPS is noticeable at all times and can actually impact gameplay.

You do realize you listed the genres that probably benefit the most from 60fps right?

As long as the 30 fps is stable I'm semi-OK with it. I'd much rather have 60 fps with maybe occasional dips to the mid 40s.

Current gen consoles really have no excuse for not every game being in 1080p.

If the game is legit, neither ruins it for me.

If I have an option between the two: 60 faps

I'd say 720p. I cannot handle the aliasing. 30 fps is ok.

Neither if the game is awesome. The game in my sig ran like shit. Darksouls ran like shit in areas.

If I had to chose, it always comes down to frame rates. If your PC runs a game like crap. You will sacrifice everything to get FPS.

I cant deal with 30fps in a lot of games, so i'd take 720p + 60fps over 1080p + 30fps.

Those who are voting for 720p are the reasons why big mucky mucks like ubisoft are completely fine with capping their games at 30 FPS.

So hard to choose, both make games so unplayable.

They'll vote 720p... Then when their PC chokes on a game they will drop everything to get better FPS.

There should be a option called "PC"... I'm not going to game at 30FPS and I not going back to 1920x1080 let alone 1280x720.

Every genre "benefits" from 60FPS but how many actually ran at that clip last gen... or the gen before? And those games are still classics.

@b4x: Been wanting to edit my post. But, gamespot is buggy again. Was gonna add that these options are obviously both deal breakers. But, since the actual options would either be 1080p/30 FPS or some number higher than 720p and 60 FPS. The higher frames would be preferred.

On a personal basis, 30 fps. 720p sucks and I'll go out of my way to avoid it but 30fps? I couldn't even play GTA V because of the shit frame rate.

The deal breaker is letting the developer choose for me.

i would never avoid getting a game just because its 720P and /or 30FPS. if its a great game then im getting it.

but of the two 720P would be the bigger deal breaker. 30FPS is still perfectly playable. its not as good and smooth as 60FPS of course but tis grand.

in saying that i go from 1080P on my laptop to 400X240 on my 3DS (800X240 in 3D mode) with no problems. if a game is good then i wants it.

Everyone in here has sacrificed resolution or graphical features for FPS on the PC one time or the other.

Both options in 2014 are unacceptable. I will always lean towards FPS though. Go online on PC and fight guys with 60+ FPS while you're at 30 fps locked.

30fps impacts gameplay far more than a drop in resolution does.

If the game is NEVER going under 30, with a controller, in a singleplayer game, I'm damn fine with that. I just did that with Shadow of Mordor on my pc and it was perfectly fine.
But if I had to play a multiplayer fps with a mouse/keyboard, I'd want my 60fps before anything else. That's why when I can, I play in 1920*900.

Since this thread talks about a console specific problem, playing with a controller, I'd choose 720p as the deal breaker. Jaggies are killing me.

neither because I have learned to live with it since the days of the Nes with sub 240i resolution while PC people were running games at what? 800x600 or some shit like that? I played a lot of Wolfenstein at the time but still thought it looked like shit and preferred my Nes and Snes' 2D games. Frame-rate on the other hand is something that didn't bother me until the transition from 2D to 3D, that's when shit started to stick on the fan.

Thanks to progressive resolutions and stuff that annoying flickering from old games on CRT SD-TV's running interlace is long gone. Now that's something that has annoyed the **** out of me since I was a kid.

Jaggies have never bothered me but the shitty AA's that blurs the entire screen and sometimes even the hud, that's a deal breaker for me. Rather prefer to have jaggies/no AA than torture my eyes with shitty FXAA or Quincunx. I remember Kotaku wrote some article about how FXAA was the godsend of AA solutions... Kotaku really needs to shut the **** up seriously.
