Poll When will PS5 and Xbox Two come out? (43 votes)

5-6 years from now (like PS2/Xbox to PS3/X360) 60%
7-8 years from now (like PS3/X360 to PS4/XB1) 40%

Last gen was unusually long. Is this the new trend due to increasing technology or was this gen just an anomaly because the financial climate?

I'm guessing it was financial climate that extended last gen. As PS4 has been out exactly 1 month, I hope it will last at least 5-6 years before PS5 is released.

I am hoping for 5 years. This gen is switching consoles are to be more similar to PC hardware so hopefully they can advance that sooner and safer. Complete backwards compatibility easily so when next gen hits people can slowly work their way over to it instead of a complete drop of past gen.

Kind of like pcs new hardware is out all the time but you don't have to upgrade. Eventually your system stopseeting requirements for newer games then you have to upgrade. Or like iPhones. You can still use a 3G for some apps but as newer more demanding stuff comes out it's not supported or at least fully supported.

i'd want it to be a little longer than gen 6 but not as long as gen 7

so 6 and a half - not 5 or 8

With the tech in the consoles already being dated, I don't think this will be a long gen at all

It should be 5, especially considering this time they're not selling the console at a loss so there isn't much to recoup over the years.

I would LIKE to see a 5-6 year generation lifetime.

I THINK we will see a 8 year generation lifetime.

If bandwidth keeps up and the Microsoft Cloud system actually accomplishes its goals, the Xbox (and possible PS4 if Sony adopts a similar system), may indeed slowly increase in power over the years. I'm holding judgement on the Cloud system until Halo 5 is debuted, which is supposedly the first game that is going to "truly" take advantage of Cloud processing.

It will be 6-7 years, which wasn't on your poll. So either answer could be correct.

MS has stated that the XB1 will be lasting 10 years minimum so while it stagnates on out dated hardware I'm sure Sony will update to even more superior(in comparsion) hardware in about 5-6 years. PS5 will be an interesting concept if it will be literal hardware.

Honestly.... I would prefer a fast console generation if it means we get at least one more generation with physical media...

I predict 6-8 though.

Next generation could come much faster than one would expect. It all depends on the success of every system. I know you didn't include Nintendo in this but say Nintendo was more or less forced to bring out a new system. It could easily cause a chain events for an earlier PS5/x2. .Or.. You could also go from the angle if the XONE performed relatively poorly which could cause Microsoft to easily go the 4-5 year route.

Five years. By then I can see 4k TVs becoming more prevalent and the tech for 4k in consoles to become more accessible. MS will be looking for a quick do over after the Xbone debacle too, if they're still around in the industry by then.

I really think that we will see a new wave of consoles around 2018. The HD twins, especially Sony, overextended themselves on the cost of the hardware at launch, so they had to have a long gen just to turn a profit.

You are talking as this generation will definitely be successful. For all we know this generation can lead to the crash of consololes. Sony can go bankrupt, MS can shutdown its hardware division, Steam Machines are on the way, many factors are at play. Consololes are dying and I don't have to worry about PC gaming because it's happily dying since....forever and yet not dead. 8)

The thing to remember is that they use off the shelf PC parts so the next consoles should make backwards compatible a breeze so all the games keep working from one gen to the other. So the cheep @$$ out here can stop crying when something new comes out.

Catch 22, have the shitty graphics of the PS4 and X1 for 7-8 years or have another even smaller shittier graphics jump than the one we just had in 5-6 years. Either way, i'm not looking forward to graphics anymore.

E3 was the most disappointing thing ever. Everyones on stage talking about 'look at these graphics', and it's such a minor upgrade across both consoles exclusives and 3rd party. I'm pissed, 8 years and this is the graphics jump we get? Nothing i've seen really shows the potential.

I know people will say, it's early, it's going to get better. No, not by much. These consoles are more like the 360, it was able to hit a constant peak more or less early on and show it's potential at the beggining. These consoles won't have teh hidden powah of the PS3, because they don't have tp coax the capabilities out of these things like a shy fucking badger.

Only reason I went next gen is because that's where everyone's focusing the games now. Although physics are better across the board now, there's that at least. I look forward to more physX type stuff going on in game.
