What's your hype for Shin Megami Tensei V now that the release trailer is out?!

I've not played the previous games, but this game gave me so many Persona vibes that I really want to get it now! I know it's the same company/universe. It looks pretty good and one of the highlights of e3 for me.

As someone who broke ground with Persona games first, getting into the other SMT games was a challenge, not just in difficulty, but it doesn't have same level of production values, and most games are an acquired taste but at least they have consistency with their game design, the personas are basically angels and demons and such in these games so many will be familiar and their abilities and strengths and weaknesses. Anyhow, gotta run back to work but wanna see new info soon, as I like these games.

I am hyped for this. Nintendo Switch here I come!

Looks good, would like to get it. Haven’t really played the games all that much though. I think I rented one of the PS2 games back in the day but not sure. Have SMTIV for the 3DS but only played it very briefly. Seemed like a cool game though. Really should play more of it.

I interested. Played Persona 4 and mostly liked it, but never finished due to all the grinding through repetitive dungeons. If this can keep things fresh throughout, I'll probably give it a shot.

Same here and I understand where you are coming from. I started playing briefly Persona 4, then completed Persona 5, and nearly completed SMT 4: Apocalypse.

It's been almost 1-2 years since I last played a SMT/Persona game, so I feel quite refreshed and ready to play SMT V. It's one of those games where I need to take a long break before I can get back into the series.

I am sure there will be new monsters, new mechanics to look forward to on SMT V.

I have played all SMT games in english and yes I am hyped. Though I do prefer if possible to play it on PS instead for nostalgia reason, aswell as the system being the golden era for SMT games with many critically acclaimed SMT games on the system. First english SMT games was translated on PS2 as (PS1 for Revelations Persona) so I hope they port it on PS system someday.

Also SMT games being difficult is a myth. The only reason it even got that reputation was because tutorial/early bosses just a bit harder and game dont hint you to attack weakness or use debuff so most player play blind and using standard jrpg rule of most powerful attack wins.

Also useless stats like STR and LUC that game doesnt point out. Dont invest in those invest in Dex, Mag and Agi.

@sakaixx: I mean, yes and no. Shin Megami Tensei 4 had a few brick wall bosses where you really had to revise your strategies and team to have any chance to get past them. Same with Tokyo Mirage Sessions. Then again, SMT3 was pretty breezey.

Also, Strength was super powerful in SMT3. I just finished that game while barely casting any spells - I just punched the shit out of every god and demon that came my way (that strategy worked for all but ~3 bosses, and tore apart the final two bosses pretty easily).

Anyway, I'm keen for SMT5. It looks fantastic.

Pretty low, actually. Replaying Nocturne made me realize just how much all the social and otherwise banal aspects of the protagonists’ lives made me love the recent Persona games.

I've never played one, but after enjoying p4g so much I'm eager to give it a go

@Planeforger: naw. Str only good for getting the best weapon in SMT3. You better invest in something else. But SMT3 itself was an easy game. In SMT4 you can kill bosses in 2-3 turn if you play with debuff. SMT games and Persona games always have balanced difficulty (except for light and dark instakill) just the hipsters and "hardcore" fans trying to gatekeep the series from casuals.

8/10, haven't seen too much about it, and i don't like the design of the main character, but nonetheless i probably will be getting it at launch.

I was never interested in SMT as a whole but I'm keeping an eye on this when it comes out. Might change my mind on the series.

Been meaning to get into SMT. Hate the DLC BS they did with Nocturne though.

I'll get it anyways for sure. Production values assets look good, but curious how far production values go for this compared to what they put in a Persona game. Will it have localized audio? Just be all or mostly text? Will audio just be Japanese only with subtitles? Maybe these answers are there I just don't follow.

Absoultely hate the main character design and ps2 graphics, but might pick it up because to be quite honest they are exellent games. i'm more hyped for P6 tho.

Nice. Waiting to see if Best Buy or Amazon getting any special editions. But it's pretty pricey, so I'm leaning towards steelbook edition.

Never played them before but I'll definitely check it out when it releases. Could be right up my alley.
