some random atari game made me a "gamer" can't remember but I didn't become a hardcore gamer till Halo CE came out. That was the first game that I ever really put in hours upon hours to master and then play multiplayer in. Before then I was just a casual who didn't even finish 99% of the games he played and only really played sports games and the occasional fighter or maybe run around GTA or something. Now I play all genres and probably put way too much time into gaming lol.

Can't remember but games on Atari console (was already there in my home , owned by someone for few years) , Contra and Street Fighter 2 were one of the very first games . The games that seriously brought me into gaming were Megaman and Max Payne .

Super Mario Bros 3 on NES was the first game to hook me. But I don't think I became the big gamer I am today until late into the PS1's life, as well as the PS2-era. Kingdom Hearts, Halo, FFX, THUG, NFSU, God of War, there were a lot of games that I became absolutely absorbed in in ways that I hadn't in previous generations. That was also when I joined Gamespot and began reading up on and conversing video games heavily.

Pokemon R/B/Y and Super Mario Land made me a handheld gamer. Starcraft and Red Alert got me gaming on the PC. PS1 was my first console but I was a casual then. Though I suppose Ace Combat helped.

you know something, it was mgs1 for me too. I had played many games before then, but I never knew a game can be so beautifully made. the story, the setting, the amazing atmosphere, the sorrow, it was and still is the best game I have ever played. Even if kojima remakes it with the new fox engine, I have a feeling it won't be the same. masterpieces like that should be left alone, its like remaking The Godfather, just don't do it.

That's a tough one... I really started to get into gaming after I bought my first console, PS1. So games like Crash Bandicoot really got me hooked early on.

From there however, I think games like Halo (original Xbox), then later on Half-Life 2, really turned it into my main hobby.

Super Mario Bros. Battle City and Final Fantasy VIII after these games, the flood gates just opened. MGS, Soul Reaver, Suikoden, Tenchu, Gran Turismo and Front Mission. I'm a big PlayStation fan so most of my games are PS exclusives and multiplatform on the PS1,PS2,PSP,PS3 and soon PS4! Thank you Sony!

I don't really like this question upon reflection, I've been a gamer for as long as I can remember and it's just who I am, it's in my blood I guess. We don't ask gay people when they became gay, they're just born that way; same applies here.

Tennis for the Odyssey (basically Pong before Atari stole the idea) is the game that made me a gamer. The game that really got me hooked (or addicted I guess) was Pitfall.

Super Mario Bros got me into gaming. I played it a bunch until I got to the World 7 castle, but then I decided the game was just unfair and therefore not fun. The first game I played hardcore was Mike Tyson's Punch Out. It took me a couple of years to beat it, but it was really rewarding knocking out Iron Mike. The game that really steered me to the hardcore stuff was Castles: Siege and Conquest, though.

Combat for the Atari 2600 was the game that got me interested in gaming in the first place but it was Sonic the Hedgehog (Genesis) was the game that cemented my love for it.

I became a gamer at a very very young age so I'm not sure what game did it for me. Could of been Asteroids, Lemmings, or some robot fighting game called One Must Fall.

My ZX Spectrum 128k came with some games (Navy Seals, Space Harrier, Sir Fred, Dizzy and a few others), so i dont remember the exact game that made me a gamer! Those were some of my first favourites.

An earlier version of this Interstate 1160. We had the Interstate 595 - The controllers are different and it didn't have the gun or gun games. If I remember correctly it has 10 pong style games like football, grid ball, basket ball, tennis, basically various version of sticks and squares getting knocked around the screen at faster and faster speeds. I really can't be arsed climbing around in the loft trying to find it, it's there somewhere though and as far I know it still works.

The most amazing thing about was full colour, if 4 colours count as full!

Yes I'm older than the average person in here.

I was playing Atari games before I was three and I disliked the graphics of the games I was playing. My first favorite controller game was Super Mario Bros. and my first favorite gun game was Duck Hunt which came with it.

Interesting. I've never heard of the Interstate 595 or Interstate 1160 before. The interwebs doesn't seem to have anything on the 595, and the site on 1160 says it was some kind of Pong knock-off made in Hong Kong in 1977. Still, the 4-colour palette is pretty impressive for a first-gen console. If the 595 was released before the Fairchild Channel F in 1976, then it may very well be the first colour console.

As a kid, I had an old Commodore 64 and then one day I had a NES hooked up to the TV and SMB blew everyone away. The difference was like how I imagine moving from a third world country to a first world country must be like.
