Is it Quantic Dream and their Fahrenheit, Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls formula? Or maybe it is Telltale and their Walking Dead / The Wolf Among Us, or is it Naughty Dog with Uncharted or The Last of Us? Or maybe something else entirely, like Crystal Dynamics' Tomb Raider? How about something from the 1990s?

What kind of a "movie game" appeals to you the most? What do you seek in such cinematic experiences?

Homeworld and Shogun 2. These video game titles have a synergy of cinematic movie experience and interactive substance through gameplay.

Sadly; console games that feature none of this get inflated scored by barely 20 year old video game reviewers. Promoting shit. Last Of Us for example.

In my opinion there should be at least an age cap of 35 to review games.

I don't consider TLOU, TR, and UC "movie games".

Stuff like Fahrenheit or Heavy Rain? Sure. Call 'em that.

Agreed

Are we just calling any game that incorporates cinematic cutscenes "movie games" now?

The new age of "point and click" adventures are what I would consider "movies games".

The Walking Dead, Heavy Rain, The Wolf Among Us, Beyond: Two Souls, the upcoming Game of Thrones, etc...and they're all pretty damn good.

Last Of Us, Uncharted and other of there ilk are movie games. People review the cutscenes; not the gameplay. Therefor movie game.

Metal Gear Solid if it counts. But then again, I only really enjoyed those games for the gameplay and replayability of them. On subsequent playthroughs (beyond the first or a revisit) I tended just to skip all the dialogue and cutscenes.

I really loved Farenheit and The Walking Dead. Those gameplay formulas work for me and long as the games have a great story and cast to compensate the limited gameplay and freedom.

My favorite are Heavy Rain and Beyond two souls, amazing games, I'll buy a ps4 when Quantic Dream releases their new game and it gets >80 score. Second is The walking dead and The wolf among us.

Uncharted: Great pacing, variety, rollercoaster ride and funny writing.

I don't think I've played any of the TellTale games, but I have enjoyed some of the old adventure games because they're heavily puzzle-driven.

Heavy Rain bored me.

I despise games like Uncharted.

Until Dawn looks really good to me so far. Thousands of different possible endings really screams replayability. Also like the setting and vibe a lot.

@PapaTrop

Thats the fundemental difference between the Adventure Games of old and stuff Heavy Rain.... Theres no longer any puzzles or Mysteries to Solve.

Adventure games aren't necessarily defined by their mechanics, so even though Heavy Rain and The Walking Dead look and play like Adventure Games... They couldn't be anymore different.

In the same way Portal isn't really an FPS and Splinter Cell isn't really a TPS.... Some games are defined by how these mechanics come together... How they are repurposed to do something different.
