Poll What's next gen's review (FLOP OR NO FLOP) standards (48 votes)

Metacritic ONLY 25%
Gamespot ONLY 75%

Before the next gen starts lets clear things up and make sure we're all on the same page with the rules.

Let's discuss and agree permanently on...

1: Does Gamespot or Metacritic count?

2: Should there be any such thing as "Console Exclusive". If a game is on the PC and on one console, should the one console get points?

3: Lets make sure everyone is clear on the Flop or No flop rules.

4: Let's maybe choose new faction names? No?

5: Let's debate on whether the WiiU should count as a Next gen. Or let's just call it Mid-Gen. (inferior hardware=lower game quality standards)

Discuss!

1. Gamespot in System Wars. Metacritic in general.

2. Yes.

3. If a game gets under a 9, it's a flop

4. No

5. Factually, yes. Practically, no.

i. Both count in different ways. Gamespot scores are for determining if a game is a flop or not; metacritic can be good to see how it compares all things considered to other titles.

ii. Console exclusives count, but only if talking about console only, pc is still a valid platform.

iii. If a game gets below it's hype level on Gamespot, then it's a flop, simple as that.

iv. No, faction names should stay the same. They are no longer really all that relevent in some cases, but would be better to still keep them.

v. Technically it's next gen. I just call it late current gen.

1: Gamespot because this is Gamespot. Metacritic should be used to point out how ridiculous a particular Gamespot review is, but now Gamespot will use more than one review for some games so it might balance out.
Example: BioShock Infinite is over rated; Tom McShea review is then a 4.0.

2: They should be brought up in Xbone and PS4 discussions, but it shouldn't give a console a "point" because it's not a true exclusive.
Example: Planetside 2 is better than any Xbone shooter; not exclusive, also on PC.

3: A game flops if it doesn't meat its hype. System Wars tradition is to hype your game like the second coming and enjoy the outcome (good or bad).
Example: Hypez AAAA!!! Only scores 9.0; flop! 8.0 huge flop; stay in hiding.

4: Faction names should stay the same. We need one for mobile gaming fanboys, mainly Apple fanboys.
Example: Worms. They like apples.

5: Wii U is next gen, although graphically it won't compete with PS4/Bone and won't get most multiplats.
Example: Wii U game lacks certain features of current gen games, Lolz @ next gen Wii U.

Since GS now uses multiple reviews now to rate games, Metacritic should be the final deciding factor IF the reviews for one specific game are vastly different (more than a point difference).

example; if a game gets a score of 9.0 and 8.0 one can easily just put the score at 8.5. However, if a score is something like 9.0 and 7.0 metacritic should be the final deciding factor.

ALSO:

If a game is 7.0 or lower it can not be called "high quality" in debates or arguments.

I make my choice depending on the game. Usually the more money poured into the game the more suspicious the reviews are.

It's a good mantra.

Gamespot itself is now a meta-review site, since it will post multiple reviews from their editors now.

I'd stick with Gamespot for the sake of this forum, but I'm not sticking to only ONE Gamespot review if they post multiple reviews. I'll take a look at all of them and consider all of them.

So if Tom posts a 4 and Kevin posts a 9, I'll be sure to go with whichever one makes me look better.

;)

BTW - EXCLUSIVE should be restricted to ONE and ONLY ONE platform. Not PC+, not old gen + new gen, just ONE, SINGLE PLATFORM.

(Ex. Titanfall is NOT an exclusive, since it's a PC, XB1 and X360 title. Also, if Everquest NEXT winds up being PC + PS4, it's NOT an exclusive.)

1. GS for the SW game

2.Doesnt matter. If I can play the witcher 2 on my CONSOLE, but not another, in a console vs console discussion its pretty good to have

3.Game MUST have clearly defined Hype score in order to exceed or flop. If you were too scared to hype a game, then you're a wuss for cheering it when it gets a 9

4.No point

5.WiiU is next gen (or current gen since it started it). Power doesn't decide gens, otherwise where is the PC? 48th gen?

Gamespot only. Stuff like Alan Wake, Sly 4, Smash Bros 4 should be exclusive. Or at least some new terminology should be made for them. Smash Bros doesn't count for sheep because it's on 2 Nintendo platforms? ****ing dumb. Wii U current gen. No new names.

I see no reason for it to change. The official Gamespot review is what counts and anyone using Metacritic will be laughed outta town. The hype/flop system is just fine, it's not anyone elses fault but your own if you can't understand a very simple rule: The hype/flop system is not based on the quality of the game, it's just a way to judge if the review score matches the hype ON GAMESPOT.

GS only, and only games with hype threads can be considered for floppage.

Keep it the same game has to be hyped, and meet or exceed hype to not flop.

Same as before. 0 reason to change it. No console exclusive crap. Gamespot only. WiiU in same generation as X1 and PS4. Why on earth should we go by metacritic? We aren't trying to gauge the internet's opinion, we're hyping it on GS, use GS's score.

Hey, I wasn't saying to change the rules. I was saying if we wanted to adjust things now would be the time so everyone can go into the next gen knowing we're all on the same page. No more they said we said.

You should have brought the second opinion feature into play. Can it be used? How would it be used?

Any way:

1: Gamespot

2: Sure console exclusives make sense. There are console only gamers, and one console having something when another does not is a valid point.

4: No

5: Wii U is next gen

1: Does Gamespot or Metacritic count?

Gamespot.

2: Should there be any such thing as "Console Exclusive". If a game is on the PC and on one console, should the one console get points?

In general? Sure. For the sake of the metagame? No.

3: Lets make sure everyone is clear on the Flop or No flop rules.

They're already clearly defined.

4: Let's maybe choose new faction names? No?

No.

5: Let's debate on whether the WiiU should count as a Next gen. Or let's just call it Mid-Gen. (inferior hardware=lower game quality standards)

Let's not. In System Wars, it's current-gen (latest gen).

Yeah this. The backlash from odd ratings is hilarious and makes SW.

Gamespot

The console should be seen as better overall, but it won't matter because this is fanboy wars. Even people who exclusively played on PS3 this gen dismissed the dozens of high-rated 360/PC multiplats because they could be played on two systems (though they love Vita/PS3 multiplats). Kinda painful to see actually.

3: Lets make sure everyone is clear on the Flop or No flop rules.

If it doesn't meet hype then it flops

No

OK seems like everyone's clear on the rules then. So if any ands or butts come up in the future, I'll be referring to this thread.
