I've been having an itch to buy a 4ktv and I'll probably get around to buying one next year. I'm aiming for something in the 60-65inch range.

I remember that one of the reasons I got the tv I'm using now (a vizio 47inch 1080p set I got back in 2009) was because of the ps3 and x360 even though ironically they mostly had games upscaled to 1080p and not native in most cases.

I wanted to hold off on a 4K set until at least the PS5 and XB2 come out even though I highly seriously doubt they'll be able to push that resolution but hey.....

so What is the name (brand) and model number of the tv you guys are using (if you know) and also how long have you had it for and lastly when do you plan to upgrade next? Will the next gen systems have an effect on your decision?

Still rocking that 27in 1080p Samsung Touch (P2770) and the 47in 1080p JVC. Thinking of getting a new 1080p this year maybe, not sure. I dont really need one.

Sony 40-inch 1080P which is years old (but solid)... I've been meaning to pick up something newer, but saving for a down-payment takes precedence.

A 42" Sony 1080 screen. Gorgeous colours and pictures on it. Had it for just under 2 years so not looking to upgrade yet.

When i do though, I'll probably get a 60" 4k of similar in a few years :).

For all my PC games and even some of my console games, i use a 27inch 60hz LG 27EA33V LED monitor.

For console games i use my 60 inch panasonic plasma tv.

Both have been really solid and reliable, so its likely i'll use them till they break because I have no need for anything new right now. I'm not sure if PC monitors can get better with age, but mine seems better than ever. Just the right brightness without overstraining my eyes.

When I first got a 360 in early 2006, I played games on a Sony Trinitron, flat screen SDTV. It was pretty big screen and obviously a tube set. I could still see the difference in graphics from my PS2/Xbox. I didn't get an HD (720p) 23 inch until late 2007. I used that until I joined the Army in 2010. In my barracks room I got a 46 inch Samsung 1080p HDTV. Sure the games looked great, but I still had fun when I would play Wii games in another soldiers room which of course were 480p. I just don't care that much about this stuff. If a game is fun, I'll play it in black and white. As for 4k? I have seen it with a friend's high end PC gaming set up. It is without a doubt stunning looking. But I still had no problem firing up my 3DS or playing SMG with one of my cousins young ones. Like I said this stuff isn't the fun factor of gaming to me.

Now? My PS4 is set up to my 23 inch Asus 1080p monitor. My X1 is set up to my uncles 55 inch Panasonic 1080p HDTV in his living room. My PC uses a 20 inch Asus 1080p monitor.

Sony W850B 60" http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/w850b

It was the best gaming TV I could find at the time for low input lag.

I want to replace it with something like this when they become more reasonably priced...

I bought a 55" LG EG9100 1080p OLED TV last year.

After doing a lot of research, I came to the conclusion that 4K is just a marketing gimmick that doesn't provide much real world benefit unless the TV is extremely large or the viewer is sitting extremely close to it, neither of which would have been applicable to me. Plus 4K content is still rare.

I decided that an OLED TV would be a much better investment than a 4K TV since everything I read pointed to OLED TVs delivering a much better overall picture than a LCD TV, regardless of their resolution and regardless of size/distance. The images that the OLED screen produces are absolutely beautiful, from the deepest possible blacks to the most vibrant colors. I think I should be content with this TV for the next 5 to 7 years.

Sony Bravia KDL46NX720. After looking at TVs for hours at Best Buy this TV had the most beautiful picture in the store. Its a looker too. The Gorilla Glass it has makes for excellent contrast and has very little light bleed on the screen. Its black levels look nearly inky. My next TV will be a 4K OLED once they come down in price. Preferably a Sony TV. People hate on Sony TVs, but I like their color output, contrast, and response times better than Samsungs TVs.

I'm actually quite surprised by the varied responses...... as much as people talk about resolutions I would've expected to see most people playing on higher resolution tv sets.

I also guessed that most pc gamers will natrually play on monitors capable of higher resolutions like 1440p

I think we will see more massive adoptions of 4k tv sets once the next wave of next gen consoles come out.

I use a 43" Toshiba 43L310U for all my gaming besides Street Fighter. That I play on a 23" Asus monitor with tournament response time so that I can compete at a more consistent level. I used to have to adjust my timing every time I went to a local tournament which sucks because a lot of the combos I rely on use 1 frame links in Street Fighter IV.

As soon as I made the change, I ended up coming just shy of 3rd place in my last tournament and making some money.

32 inch 1080p Samsung TV, bog standard, works perfectly. 4K to me is pointless for another 2 years at least, I'm waiting until I can get a good sized set with HDR for standard TV prices and there's actually easy, widespread access to 4K programming/movies before even considering it.

2006 1080p LCoS SXRD Sony 55A2000 with a busted SXRD panel that gives 60% of the screen a green/yellow tint.

Been an issue for about the last four years or some such. It started off tolerable, but gradually got worse. I am growing somewhat tired of it. How bad it is depends quite a bit on the composition of the image. Playing NHL 16, it's not that noticeable. Tomb Raider, snowy mountains are covered in irradiated piss fog, and in greener areas it gets oppressively monochromatic to the point that it's harder to distinguish enemies from the environment, and things in Lara-vision. I kind of don't want to play games on it because of how horrible that game looks.

I'd try to fix it myself, but I'd need to find and buy a similar model TV, cut it in half and all that nonsense. I don't trust it would be financially reasonable to do any of that even if I believed I could, or that I'm be able to sell this big old busted TV. So instead I'm going to throw this fucking $2300+$200 (lamp replacement) thing away. It's a decade old, but still, damned thing was expensive as hell. And for how much it cost, the longevity was garbage. If I recall, that's exactly why Sony quit making these.

Thinking about replacing it with a Samsung UE55JU7005. But I hear Samsung forces ads on you through the Smart Hub agreement. Banners that will show up regardless of input. It basically sounds awful.

edit
My NHL 16 saves and EA account got messed up when I put the Tomb Raider disc in while NHL 16 (digital) was running, and the Xbox One and/or shitty EA code presumably corrupted things as it tried to shut down one game while starting another at the same time. Lost my saves from the last three days, and my EA account got temporarily locked (on at least this console/game) and so I can no longer access any online features until that gets fixed. As long as it doesn't affect any games I'd actually want to play online, I don't care. Until then, I'm more sad about my saves.

So don't make your Xbox One do that, I guess. Is my hot tip for everyone else out there.
