Poll What is your favorite Nintendo console? (133 votes)

Nintendo Entertainment System 6%
Super Nintendo Entertainment System 29%
Nintendo 64 20%
Gamecube 31%
Wii 7%
Wii U 7%

Nintendo has had a long and illustrious history in console gaming- longer than any other company ever, as a matter of fact. They have had six different consoles on the market, and each of them has been unique, each of them has brought something new to the table, and each of them has had a marvelous library of gems by the end.

But which of them do you like the best? And why?

On my part, if I had to rank them, I would rank them as follows:

  1. Gamecube
  2. Super Nintendo Entertainment System
  3. Wii U
  4. Wii
  5. Nintendo 64
  6. Nintendo Entertainment System

I don't have much nostalgia for the NES, since it was out and replaced before I was even born, and its games never aged as well; the SNES is a class act, and possibly, objectively, one of the two greatest consoles of all time; ranking the N64 that low breaks my heart as I absolutely love it, but today, it stands pretty broken and aged, with all of its games having been bettered in some form or another. The Gamecube is my absolute favorite Nintendo console- it had first and third party support, and the exclusives were exceptional, and possibly the most creative Nintendo has ever been yet. The Wii was a bit of a dramatic drop, really, but by the end of its generation, it had so many great games to its name that it's very hard to stay pissed at it. And the Wii U is surprisingly awesome, already shooting up my list of favorite Nintendo consoles, less than two years in. It's got a great library of compelling exclusives, and the Nintendo of the Gamecube era seems to be back, rather than the relatively safe and boring Nintendo we got in the Wii era.

What are your favorite Nintendo systems? How would you rank them?

People like quality systems, apparently.

More like the majority of people posting in this thread are no more than 17 or 18 years old.

If you're 25 or older, I don't see how you could possibly prefer the Gamecube or Wii over the SNES.

I'm 23 (so closer to 25 than 17), I still prefer the Gamecube. A Link to the Past was my favorite game of all time until last year, I grew up playing SNES, but I still simply like Gamecube more. It had all the classic Nintendo stuff, great third party exclusives, and a fair amount of multiplat support too.

It doesn't necessarily have to do with age- people can actually legitimately prefer the console they are voting for.

All... all of them do.

Literally, there isn't a single console on that list that supports only one controller.

I have to go with the Cube, even though the N64 and SNES were very good also.

All numbers and biases aside, for my own tastes, Nintendo peaked with the SNES and went downhill from there . NES is their 2nd best console. So many more amazing games on nes than the latter consoles... including several of the very best of all time.

Maybe they have, but a handful of them doesn't save the Wii from not being as well rounded a console as, say, Gamecube or SNES or even Wii U are.

I prefer Nintendo's handheld games. The DS and 3DS have the best Nintendo games I ever played.

not only it sold the worst but it had one of the smallest and weakest library of games ever. That's why seeing so may people voting for it is so surprising. It seems SW is mostly children now.

The Gamecube was my favorite, mainly because of my familiarity with it, I don't think it was objectively the best. There were plenty of droughts for the Gamecube and I MUCH MUCH MUCH preferred the PS2 during that generation. I only played Super Mario Brothers on the NES when I was a kid and we didn't have an SNES. Only got the N64 in 200o right when it was about done and all I played on it was Smash, Mario and Pokemon.

The Wii was a disappointment to me in that it had long droughts like the Gamecube, but objectively speaking I think it was better honestly. I'd say it still got more good games than the Gamecube. I haven't got a WiiU yet, and I will probably around Bayonetta 2, but I expect it to be like the Gamecube and Wii where it just relies on Nintendo's first party and you're just left waiting in between.

I'm 25, I didn't really play much SNES, didn't have one. Wasn't much of a game till 6th generation. Objectively, the Gamecube was probably Nintendo's worst console, but personally it was my favorite simply because it's the one I played the most.

Lol, I can more or less agree with that. I hope the Wii U turns out well though.

I'd love to own a NES, I still like the look of it and the way you put game cartridges in it. It's the one console I'm nostalgic about and I never even owned it lol.

The Wii and GameCube make a great duo, the Gamecube with it comfortable controller, and amazing enhanced graphics, and the Wii with it motion controller, and Rayman Raving Rabbids, and backward compatibility, and they both use compact discs, in my opinion, even though people reject and go for the other console, like the Playstation 2, Xbox, and Dreamcast, the Gamecube was still able to offer something fresh. Even though the Wii lacks the most important thing in the seventh generation: high definition, the Wii was still able to handle the lead.
