I'll always have a sweet spot for 5th gen. Playstation gave me MGS1, FF7 & 8, Resident Evil 2 & 3, Xenogears, Vagrant Story, Tony Hawk 2, Vigilante 8, Crash Bandicoot, Mega Man, Need for Speed 3, and more. N64 gave me Ocarina of Time, Mario 64, No Mercy, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Mario Kart 64, Mario Party, and Super Smash Bros. On the PC side, there was Starcraft 2 and Medal of Honor Allied Assault T'was a great time. I never really got into 6th gen that much except for MGS 2 & 3 and Resident Evil REmake and 4.

What about you, SW?

Genesis and SNES was my favorite. It was so awesome. Full of great games on both that made each worth a purchase. PS2 and Xbox was second imo.

PS1 because of the JRPG's. I have around a hundred games between the PS1 and PS2 and 90% of them are JRPG's. Since the PS3 there has been less and less JRPG's that interest me so now I game much less than ever before... But still play new games once in a while when something looks appealing to me like Uncharted or Marvel vs Capcom 3 otherwise is mostly retro.

5th gen for me as well especially with regard to hardware: PSX, N64, Saturn, 3dfx for PC, etc. My favorite is the 3DO Blaster:

Imagine if a WiiU, XB1, or PS4 came in this version for the PC?

The 2nd was pretty good. Colecovision, Atarti 2600, and Intellivision.

The 4th was pretty damn good also. SNES, Genesis, Turbo Grafix 16, Gameboy, and Gamegear.

Also the 6th generation. PS2, Gamecube, Xbox. All good, and there were a lot of unique games to play then.

The 7th was also pretty good. PS3, Xbox 360. Less competition, but still lots of good games to play.

My greatest gaming memories are from the 5th gen. Since this was the first 3D generation, there were so many revolutionary gaming experiences that amazed me. Plus, the N64 was the best multiplayer party machine and provided so many hours of fun and laughter with friends.

I'm sure my age at the time also played a role in why I loved it so much. During that gen I was between 10 and 15 years old, so I was old enough to be good at games, but still young enough to have plenty of free time to play games.

My overall rankings would be: 5th > 4th > 7th > 6th > 3rd

What he said.

Gen 6 had greats for me like Final Fantasy XII and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (my two favorite games) and many more. Gen 7 had more polished experiences and great games like Uncharted, Mass Effect, Super Mario Galaxy, and... yeah.

Either one. Love both.

I think gen 6 is still my favorite, mostly because it felt mine...in a way, it was the first time i was enjoying games on a different way, not to mention it was the first gen where i began to buy my own games thanks to scolarships support, so every game i bought felt mine...of course, it helped that some of the best games ever where released on that gen like Sould Calibur 2, Windwaker, Paper Mario 2, Resident Evil 4, Metroid Prime, etc.

I'll always have a soft spot for gen 4. No matter how good gaming gets, it'll always be my favorite. SNES is my favorite console of all time and the Genesis was a damn fine contender. Those two consoles were the perfect balance.

A big part of it is most definitely nostalgia, but so many gen 4 games still hold up very well today.

Have to agree, I have to say say it's a tie between 6 and 7, I think a good 98% of my all time favorite games were released in gen 6 and 7.

I was a more active participant in the 7th gen, but if I was comparing the top games of the respective gens to each other (out of the ones I've played). It's the 6th gen winning out with the 4th and 7th gen in a bit of a tie for me. That combination of Resident Evil 4, Metroid Prime, Ninja Gaiden Black, Silent Hill 2, Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, Thief 2, Max Payne 2, Call of Duty 1, Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, Unreal 2k4, Halo 2, Battlefield 2142, Star Wars: Rogue Leader, Star Wars Jedi Outcast, Escape from Butcher Bay, No One Lives Forever 2, Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind, Arcanum, and Shadow of the Colossus

It was a beast of a generation, with a bunch of games that would fill up my personal top 10-20-50 if I was insane enough to think that far down the line. 4th gen and 7th gen are no slouches for sure. 5th gen is the one I constantly look at and go: that's the one that is weak enough to honestly be challenged by the NES era of gaming.

Loved the 7th gen.

I think this gen will be amazing on the PC particularly. The advances in software, hardware and now with most of the console multiplats, there's a lot to look forward to.

I remain unexcited by consoles right now.

n64 was the best multiplayer system ever. having friends come over and play smash bros, golden eye, conkers and so on was amazing.
