SP (mechanics): Rage (don't say blasphemy, it plays like a dream... when you're shooting, everything else sucks)

SP (story) : In the more 'pure' FPS, like not RPG-FPS (deus ex), I guess Half Life.

The only legit one on that poll is Counter Strike.

Also, absense of Quake, UT2004, Goldeneye 64, and Perfect Dark 64 are also a mystery.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh. The single-player in an FPS is, to me, like the cherry on top of a cake. Nice thing to add, but it's not the essential.

I mean, I'll play it once or twice, and by the second time I'll be owning the AI so hard it won't even be fun anymore. Multiplayer guarantees that I'll always find someone that's on or above my level :p.

Halo 3, or the Halo franchise in general. Just the other day I was playing Reach, Big Team Battle. I was on one of the guns of one of those UNSC helicopter ships on the Spire map. As the pilot is flying around and I'm firing at things, I'm watching the carnage below. I see a Ghost zooming around a corner while a Warthog is chasing it, the gunner firing away. On either side of the ravine they were driving through, there was a massive firefight between both teams on either side, people taking cover behind the rock formations. And the all of a sudden I see a guy on top of a large rock that he'd used a jetpack to reach. He was sniping down on the enemy that was trying to take cover..

This is just one moment in a single match. Halo is awesome.

but anyways, Halo is the best franchise, and Call of Duty 4 as the best stand-alone game.

I've been gaming for over 20 years. No FPS game has made me say "wow" to myself like Halo:CE did the first time I played it.

My honorable mentions would be Deus Ex (original), Unreal Tournament, FEAR and HL2.

out of those...counter strike...the only one on the list that has been goin strong since the early mid 90's and it was originally a mod...and its the only one with good mp...go figure...way to set the poll trololol

secondly, halo and doom definetly deserve to be there. I'd get rid of KZ and COD in a flash though.
