Poll What is the best Assassin's Creed game? (107 votes)

Assassin's Creed 9%
Assassin's Creed II 36%
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood 8%
Assassin's Creed Revelations 1%
Assassin's Creed III 3%
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag 38%
Assassin's Creed Rogue 0%
Assassin's Creed Unity 3%

Whether or not Assassin's Creed Syndicate will be any good is something that remains to be seen (personally, after the double whammy of disappointment that was Unity and Rogue last year, I don't have much hope), but once upon a time, not so long ago, Assassin's Creed, in spite of being annualized, was a good, fun series. Historically authentic, with some fine parkour, lively open worlds, great ambition, and a confluence of elements that came together to form more than the sum of their parts.

It may no longer be what it once was, but nothing can detract from it having once been what it was after all.

Syndicate is coming- ahead of its launch, let's try and settle on the best game in the series.

Personally, I think it is (easily) Assassin's Creed II, with Black Flag a close second, and Brotherhood coming up third. I also think that any ranking of the series would probably have the same top three, but what do I know.

Black Flag. I was never much of a fan of Ezio or Italy. Black Flags was a nice change for the series and I liked the pirate theme.

Black Flag. All other entries suck. Desmond Miles makes them especially bad.

I'd be inclined to say AC2 or Brotherhood, but I wager I had the most fun with Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag.

I really enjoyed ACII since it was such a vast improvement over the original. Like 10x better than the first one. I hated the first AC game, but ACII turned me into a big fan.

Black Flag was really good though.

The first game.

Mostly because it doesn't make the player character this superman badass that can go through an entire city garrison unscathed... and he actually has to spend time plotting each assassination.

Plus, it stars Altair, the series' coolest dude.

It's absolutely Black Flag for me. It ended up being the most fun I ever had with an open world game from the last generation. It fulfilled my dream of being a pirate. I played that game to death and loved every moment of it.

Definitely Assassin's Creed II. I also liked Black Flag, Brotherhood, and Unity. Black Flag was unique though because I personally felt that it wasn't really much of an "Assassin's Creed" game but a fantastic game nevertheless. Still, nothing beats AC II for me.

I think the crown still goes to AC2 as the best entry in the series, as far as an actual AC game goes.

Though if one doesn't care much for the "AC" part of the game, AC4: Black Flag has it beat by quite some points :P

Interesting to see so much love for Black Flag. It was great, but I think people forget just what a revelation (har har) II was at the time of its release.

1 - AC2 for it's pure assassination feel.

2 - Black Flag for the most pure pirate game.

Yeah Black Flag was pretty fun, although attacking/boarding ships in order to level up started to get repetitive for me. And I thought the missions got too repetitive as well.

My favorite is actually 3, I like the old school Boston and Revolutionary War

Black Flag was the most immersive IMO. It really, really felt like you were a pirate. The campaign missions were kind of weak at times, but everything else was superb. Seriously, I can (and have) spent hours sailing around and looting ships. It was an incredibly well executed concept in a sub genre that is surprisingly underepresented in video games. Plus the side activities were great and added a lot to the atmosphere. Even harpooning was fun since it was very reminiscent of the Del Lago fight from RE4.

That being said, I think as far as amount of content and mission variety goes, Brotherhood is best. It had a ton to do and had a lot of varied activities to participate in and while some of them like races weren't very fun, most of them were very enjoyable.

I'll say, though, that my favorite overall was Black Flag. It felt different and like I said, there aren't a lot of games that let you really be a pirate.

Black Flag hands down. For starters, the story was completely stand alone, not requiring familiarity with the convoluted story arc of the series that previous games required one follow, story was free of this burden. It did a great job of balancing the present day and the Animus dives together (Unity didn't even bother). It sported the best combat mechanics in the series. Ship battles were awesome. It was AC at it's peak before they ruined everything with AC: Unity, where combat is unresponsive, guns are worthless, can't whistle lure, the economy system is a joke.

Still haven't got to play Rogue or Liberation but really want to. Hopefully they're both made BC on the Xbox One (fingers crossed they play well too).

I personally love Assassins Creed 3 and it's my favorite of the series. Objectively Black Flag is probably the best though.

Played 1,2, Brotherhood, 3 and Unity and honestly Unity was the one I enjoyed the most. Technical issues aside, I dont get the hate this game gets. But I'm kinda burn out of AC games. I'm still curious about BF though, since I hear so many say its the best one yet

AC2...it's the only AC game I could ever make myself play through to 100%. Every damn feather, every damn flag. I think it's the only Ass Creed game I ever played through twice also. The story was just that good.

2 with 1 close behind it. 1 managed to hold my interest during the prime height of CoD 4, which is saying something. 2 is still better overall though.

AC II is a very good Assassin's Creed game, but Black Flag is arguably the best pirate game in recent years. The latter is far more scarce on the market, and so people inevitably grew more fond of it. Myself included.

Another way to see this may be: if there are only two games, AC II and Black Flag, then AC II may win. However, there is AC II, and 4 other games that copy pasted AC II, and each of those milked releases diminished our fondness of AC II since AC II's brilliance and innovation quickly turned into the very definition of generic. In comparison, Black Flag stands out and triumphs because it is not entirely generic and boring.

AcII - Desmond still meant something, ezio was a wonderful character who I rooted for throughout. The maps were great... Florence in particular... Lastly, they fixed everything the first game lacked and it showed... One of my favorite games of last gen. Also the "truth" glyphs were my favorite collectable of last gen. Every puzzle, it's own Dan Brown mind dump. Loved it all.

AC Brotherhood (Rome beats boats for me.) ezio still great, Rome is the best (realized) locale to date... New England had the most potential, but ac3 didn't actually know how to have fun in its own world so I have to say Rome was better. Game was bigger and maybe better than AcII but the second game had me wrapped up in what was going on better.

AC4BlackFlag - such a nicely balanced gameplay set. The ship warfare may be better than the core gameplay. I even enjoyed fishing and shark diving (well... It was varied at least)

AcI - I actually really enjoyed it. I didn't feel frustrated with its repetition or gameplay shortcomings. I really enjoyed the opening chapter.

After that...

Revelation... Ezio deserved better but by this point AC was corrupt with greed

AC Unity - a technical failure from launch, a completely forgettable tale with boring characters. The story no longer respects my time investment and it shows and the much anticipated online coop was probably the greatest failure the franchise has seen... It never connected efficiently... Ever for me and when it did connect, it's design played like UBIsoft had absolutely no idea how to properly allow two people to have fun in its world. Really it was the nail in the coffin for me.

ACIII - they made assassins creed happen in my back yard... At a time when I couldn't have been more excited to see what happened next... And it was wildly unentertaining, boring, stupid, and so glaringly lost in somewhere between too much ambition and horrific execution... Ac3 is a turd.

Never played Rogue and thus have no opinion on it.

@GhoX: I suppose this is true- there is Assassin's Creed II, and then an entire set of games based on its template (Brotherhood, Revelations, III, Unity), not to mention other Ubisoft games that borrowed the style (Far Cry 3, Far Cry 4, Watch Dogs) and third party games that did it too (Shadow of Mordor). Meanwhile, on the other side all we have is Black Flag and Rogue, and not many people even played Rogue.

I suppose sheer fatigue might be diminishing AC2 in people's minds.

Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag is best. My own personal favorites are both AC: Revelations and Black Flag. And my favorite characters are still Ezio and Altair, even though I like Edward a lot as well.

Having not played Revelations, Brotherhood or the games that proceeded Black Flag, AC2 has received the most praise for me due to the advancements it made in your Assassain techniques.

The first AC is close second for me due to the fact that to me, it felt less linear in terms of the Assassinations, or rather, it didn't feel so easy in that regard. Also, the fact that you were given a map with different entry points and guard positions during them (something I found out years later) suggest that the series was maybe suppose to be more tactical

Haven't played any after AC3

Brotherhood is my favorite one, AC2 followed very closesly. AC2 and Brotherhood (at this point) are what make AC so great.
