What genre would you like to have dominate Nextgen?

id like to see the jrpg die off completely.

I voted Platformers but that is because it is my favorite genre.

I prefer games like fallout 3 and mass effect 3. Action role playing games. But I also want to see more open world games. But open world is a broad term. You get the idea though.

RPGs, I'm not too picky but any game where numbers pop out of people is fine with me. Hope there is a Borderlands 3 on PS4.

I don't know what fad will reign supreme in big budget commercial games... A hybrid of a few Id gather, but I do feel confident in saying Indie games will be massive this gen.

They seem to be attempting to combine the two highly profitable genres of FPS and MMO's.

Platformers, or action games. Real action games like Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden Black, MGR, Anarchy Reigns, and The Wonderful 101 though. Not tedious, clunky, third person cover shooters that people for some reason consider "action" games.

I would REALLY love to see more 3rd person shooters similar to the SOCOM games. I love that style of gameplay. We have enough gears/uncharted rip offs, I want more socom ripoffs.

Would love to see the RPG genre flourish next gen, as it has in this one.

Action-Adventure. A-A games focus on what you can do in the game. RPGs focus on what you can be. I think the former is way more interesting and leads to a more entertaining experience.

Picked JRPGs myself, even though I know that will never happen. In fact the way things are going I fear that in the next few years the JRPG genre will die out completely.

Strategy games, I want real time strategy games to make a big return, with proper base building and resource management too, none of this real time tactics nonsense.

I don't want any one genre to dominate this generation. Oversaturation is never a good thing. However, my favourite genres are platformers and fighters so I hope there's a good number of those coming out. I do think 3D platformers need to kick it up a notch. Outside of Mario, we really have almost nothing in that subgenre.

Not going to support Jakarcop's position, nor question your own preferences in gaming (you're entitled to like what you want)... but damn if your assertion as to the "best" genre doesn't go unchallenged!! :P

I don't know about genres per se, but if there were a theme I wanted to see as a primary focus of the next gen, it would be destruction.

With the announcement of Battlefront 3, I have hope that Mercenaries 3 is in the works as well(or soon will be), and I'd like to see it take all the best parts of Mercenaries 2, Red Faction: Guerilla and Just Cause 2. Those parts being: Drop In/Drop Out coop, airstrikes, building scale destruction; structural deconstruction; grapple/chute, ambient enemy bases, and ABSOLUTE freedom.

I'm not smart on RPGs but what kind of game is Dragons dogma and skyrim
