The title says it all, I'll start.
- Overuse of gruff men in their 30's who could win bodybuilding competitions
- Too much reliance on modern themes and realism
- Cliche storylines

Any of those points can be turned to japanese games, for instance,I much rather have those gruff 30 year old characters than jailbait for weeabos or another pathetic angsty androgynous teenager like most of what comes from japan these days.
And cliche storylines? If we go and analise the stories(and characters) of most story driven japanese games then my word...
Both have their own flaws and stuff to nitpick at.
At first I thought you meant western games as in Red Dead Redemption and Call of Juarez, was kinda confused.
Too broad of a question. What kind of western games?
If you're talking about AAA shooters/acton adventure... Well everyone already knows what's wrong with those.
Generic music. It seems like most of them tend to have soundtracks similar to those found in movies, and they're just as forgettable.

But it wasn't too broad of a question for you in the other thread, the one asking what don't you like about Japanese games. If we can clump all Japanese games together under one umbrella, we can do the same for Western games.
The art style doesn't appeal to me typically. Anime is like a lazy overused method.
If we're talking JRPGs, I really hate the turn based gameplay that most of them have.
fad threads are bad threads
Not really the point of why I made the thread, but keep trying.
Triple A western devs who focus more on presentation and story than the gameplay. It's flash over substance.
This^

Yeah but the variety is western games is too broad. And by western are we counting the whole of europe, america right? So yeah.
On topic, lack of variety in main protagonist for shooters.
Thus the variety of Japanese games is not broad? With platformers, fighters, survival horrors, RPG's, hack n' slash, visual novels, etc., I guess it can be readily boiled down to "Japanese games"?

Fad threads are still fad threads, yo.
Well, I'm more in trying to call out the other thread than merely imitate it. Some of the things people griped about Japanese games in the other thread can easily be mentioned for Western games, and vice versa. I was waiting to see the thread get more responses to see the average outlook of posts, but I guess I'll work with what I got currently got.
Most AAA games are incredibly shallow.
I'll never know why so many people crave them. I assume most gamers just like to play one or two games a year on a free weekend which I guess they're good for.
I'd stop gaming if all I had access to were games like Uncharted, WatchDogs, Assassin's Creed, etc.
What's not to like?
Modernize games like uncharted, tomb raider or some modern military FPS. thats only i can think of western games
otherwiseI really really like especially PC oriented games.

that's a good point ... individual with whom i'm completely unfamiliar. i never really thought about that. but you're quite right though, these newer big budget games aren't necessarily guaranteed fun.
to be fair though, i did enjoy watch_dogs and I've got plenty left of it to enjoy.
They all use the same generic brown and grey art style
All the protagonists are buzzed head military commando dudes with a bit of stubble.
Cliche storylines
Oversexualized women who only exist as an object to obtain (The Witcher literally had romance cards you can earn).
Buggy games
Huge emphasis on presentation.

100^% agreed. these dudebro gamers are also ruining gaming industry. these shallow blockbuster action games. they focus on presentation , cinematics QTE, story (and poorly done) rather than gameplay and level design.
I don't like militaristic FPS games in general. I haven't enjoyed one since the first Bad Company.
I never like military FPS. and Im FPS guy. just give me some old school shooters

Yeah but most of them use the anime style weeaboo thingy and the complaints I've seen in the other thread is pretty much the same.
Yeah but most of them (Western games) use brown/grey art styles with 30 year olds who are gruff and have some stubble. It can work both ways here.
Generic bald marine saving the world, alien invasion in almost every shooter, f*cking military theme, casualised games, PR bsing, feminists crying because X game doesn't have a female in it.
Starring Generic white guy who all look like Ross from Friends.
Like, c'mon think of something different its a bit stale.

You came up with the perfect solution: Play as Ross.
Your character would constantly freak out and lament over his failed marriages.
Wow, not a single stereotype in this thread is true. Maybe people should try broadening their knowledge beyond cinematic FPS's on consoles.
Triple A western devs who focus more on presentation and story than the gameplay. It's flash over substance.
Pretty much this.
Um... other than games constantly trying too hard to seem epic and that japanese game generally tend to have more fan services (and not take themselves too seriously) in form of either cool unlockables, lots of references, or lots of easter eggs and just overall silly stuff (example: the MGS games)

Try really looking at the variety in art style you get in Japan, the range is not as large as in "western" games. You have stuff from Journey, to Call of Duty, Superbrothers: Sword and Sorcery EP to Watch Dogs, Rayman Origins, Mirror's Edge, Metro, Fez, Team Fortress 2, Brutal Legend, BitTrip Runner, Dear Esther, I could go on listing thousands of artistically unique games. Can you not see the variety here? And could you find the same range within Japan?
