Last gen was good because it seems like they went back and redid games like the original fallout which ended up being huge games. They also had new ips like mass effect and uncharted and gears of war which were huge new ips for those consoles. MOre and more Assassins creed and elder scrolls plus older series lke final fantasy, metal gear, gta and halo. The emergence of Telltale games was also big.

So far we have titanfall and infamous as the only truly next gen games imo. I guess killzone and dead rising 3 could be that but are pretty mediocre.

watchdogs and destiny are going to be huge new ips. The witcher and dragon age were just starting to gain steam last gen and are the first rpgs being released this gen. The order is going to continue on what the last of us finished last gen.

Next y ear is it just going to be more Uncharted or will there be new titles that come out? Is uncharted coming out this year? What will be left?

Seems like they are going back and are going to do titles like WAsteland and Mad max. Whore of the orient seems to be a continuation of LA Noire in ways plus Murdered Soul Suspect, Quantum Break seem to follow that formula or LA NOire, Alan Wake sort of games. Plus they are reinvigorating the survival horror series this year with games like the Evil Within and Outlast. Deep down also seems to be an extension to what demons souls was doing. Bethesda has gone open world which im not feeling so much.

That's the feeling i get anyways. I'm sure there will be surprises along the way. Some of the ps4 indie games in particular like everybodys gone to rapture, soma, shadow of the beast.

"New" is always right around the corner, it's just part of the industry; to improve and expand.

Virtual Reality is going to be the new Kinect. They are always trying this stuff. The difference is the technology is actually there now where it could be pretty good. Virtual reality interests me a lot more than kinect I'll say that. Still not interested overly though.

Give me a controller, a high powered console, and a nice tv and i'm good. This is the first gen where i won't have to deal with pixelated crap, frame rate issues and screen tearing so i'm happy with that.

thing is sony wins regardless. Kinect isnt going to be as good as virtual reality.

I expect Star Citizen with Oculus Rift will be an amazing experience for enthusiasts.

From there, I'd like to see a bigger push toward more innovative ideas. I hope I don't catch too much flak for calling VR attempts innovative, but I welcome things like Wiimotes, Move controllers, Oculus Rift, and to a degree Kinect (when used effectively to further the immersion of a gaming experience). Sticking with the same old stuff gets boring after a while. Anything that can shake things up a bit or offer something completely out of our experience is welcomed, and within 2014 and the following year, I can see a lot of new and interesting tech releasing, which may or may not make consoles look less remarkable. This may sound bad to those who have purchased any of the new systems, but the way I see it, the faster that progress is made, the more people will be inclined to buy an upgradable product.

This moves more in line with PCs (please don't flame me; I'm not trying to be an elitist), as when a part is no longer offering the performance one seeks, he or she may simply buy one single part for the fraction of the cost for a whole new machine. This is, I believe, where Steam Machines may come into the more mainstream market, offering simple solutions to those who simply want to sit down and play. This is made even better as one could still install another OS, ie. Windows, on a separate partition. I see, maybe not by 2015 but a bit beyond then, lots of people who will be getting the best of both worlds -consoles experiences as well as PC- obtainable at a fraction of the cost and on a single machine.

EDIT: LOL, well my first prediction may now be very correct or very, very wrong.

Id like to see another GTA game, with focus on just one character instead of 3 like GTA5.

What I really want from a new GTA is it being set in Vice City, as the last two were in Liberty City and San Andreas.

I expect some IP revivals like The Getaway, Conker, Star Wars Battlefront/ Republic Commando. Seeing VR fail would probably be a highlight though, just like 3D and motion gaming.

I expect a lot more boring third person cover shooters, boring military first person shooters, and more boring open world games with mediocre at best gameplay.

@Pffrbt: that's the way, keep the faith. I'm a pessimist myself, but jeeeez. I think you need some TLoU to cheer you up man.

As for me, I'm pumped for VR. I hope that Alien: isolation will end up utilizing it as I can think of no better game to wow people with. If I were Sony I'd be putting a lot of pressure on CA to incorporate it and push it as an example of why VR is not just another gimmick.

Aside from that, Batman and Star Citizen with the Rift.

I expect Persona 5 to release in Japan in 2014 and the delayed localization for foreign markets to arrive in 2015, and it'll likely be a PS3 only game instead of on PS4.

With Star Citizen, Elite: Dangerous and No Man's Sky on the horizon, I'm looking forward to the resurgence of space sims. Not that I was big into them originally, but I had a few demos back in the day that I played for hours and hours (particularly Tachyon: The Fringe and Solar Winds)

new young people will begin gaming, so, on average there will be a tendency for lower education status among gamers.

i've been saying it for a while, gamers should not neglect their education.

I know I need to quit having a hard on for MGS5, but yeah. Phantom Pain is the only thing on my mind for 2015. MGS2 and MGS3 kept me coming back for months and if GZ is any indication, Phantom Pain will probably keep me going for a damn year.

Aside from that, I'm hoping to see some good efforts from Nintendo. They have their feet to the fire with the WiiU and I'm hoping that motivates them to get off their asses and bring their A game. I don't give a **** about the rehashed IP argument, I want to see Metroid and Zelda in their best form. No Other M or SS shit, I want to see these series' have a Mario Galaxy type renaissance. The hardware is more than sufficient for Nintendos 1st party to impress and god damn it, they can afford to float the bill on developing something truly great. And I know they're not bankrupt on creativity, they just get lazy sometimes. TURN THAT SHIT AROUND NINTENDO!

Lollipop Chainsaw was a very underrated game. It reminds me of Bayonetta in some ways just how over the top it was, but that is part of both games charm.

I really would like to see some new franchises.

That's my prediction. FO4 announced this E3 and released 2015.

Also, we know the Oculus Rift guys are determined to launch before the end of 2015. If they do at a price that drives adoption and the software ofers a few compelling examples, VR could drive a lot of innovation in gaming for the next several years.

There are only two outcomes for Star Citizen. Either it will be one of the best games, if not the best game ever made, or it will be one of the biggest flops in history.

There is no room for middle ground anymore. Even if the game is just alright it will be a huge flop.

It's incredibly ambitious and I don't find such scale can be well-executed all at once. There's going to be serious issues. I think SC will more than likely end up hugely disappointing people but will grow into something amazing over the years.

Doesn't matter if they have 10k employess with 200 billion in the vault. Launching something of the scope of Star Citizen is a monumental task, and I can assure you many things advertised will not be working well (or at all) when it goes live. Just the nature of the beast. As much as I'm looking forward to it, I'm thinking of holding off about 6 months to a year post launch just to allow them time to get on top of problems that they couldn't have predicted and fixed until it went retail.

@MirkoS77: It's a monumental task sure, but they aren't bound by release dates, their budget is massive, and they are going to have a very long alpha/beta. They've severely minimized their chances of failure. They also have external investors if they need them. The only thing I can predict that can happen to the game is the ideas end up not being fun.
