What are the 5 games you played that you think are the WORST of last gen on any consoles/system. Only rules are that it cannot be a phone game and the game cannot also be on new generation systems as well as originally released last gen(no remakes or anniversaries). Your votes will be counted by 50-10.. Winners go to next round, which will be made differently from other next rounds. I will also only be counting 5.

Hmm here are the ones I think that bored me the most:

  1. Metal Gear Solid 4
  2. The Witcher 1
  3. LA Noire
  4. Borderlands 1
  5. Bayonetta

Well, I'm sure there were many games worse than these (maybe not HTTC), but these are the worst that I played.

  • Spore
  • Final Fantasy 13
  • Braid
  • Infamous
  • Hail to the Chimp

I'll just mention one game right now and it's one that instantly comes to mind:

Bleach Shattered Blade for the Wii. An awful anime based fighter and an awful fighting game all around (probably the worst I've ever played).

#7 Posted by Some-Mist (5630 posts) -

Cross Edge is the absolute worst game I played last gen,

then it'd probably be a toss up between darksiders, enslaved, time hollow, and dead space 3.

#8 Edited by SolidTy (41427 posts) -

Wow, you guys haven't really played that many truly bad of games judging from what I see in some of these choices. I think this thread will end up more in fanboy territory as people will see this as an opportunity to take pot shots at exclusives on opposing systems rather than truly deplorable titles.

I can honestly say BulletWitch, Two Worlds, Bomberman Act Zero, Sonic the Hedgehog (360 2006), Vampire Rain, G.I. Joe, and Damnation (PS360) as the worst games I've played.

Notable others I would say are most Kinect titles, some terrible iOS/Android Phonie games (I know they aren't counted, but I had to give a shoutout), and random Terrible indie bundled games I get on PC. Some indie games are just so awful and not worth checking my Steam Library to mention, as I got them in bunches. I bought those bundles that included bad games though for the few gems/good games that would be up my ally like FTL which also were in those bundles.

As far as game titles SW would recognize, I would say Dead Rising 2 wasn't very enjoyable, but it's heaps better than the turds I mentioned above.

There are other crap games out there across every system (a bunch of Ubisoft Wii cheapy titles come to mind), Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor (Kinect, sad because I own the fun original game), The War Z (PC), and Mindjack (PS360) which I never played, but I do my best to avoid these awful titles these days. My backlog is filled to the brim with AA+ titles, I don't have no time for sh**ty titles. Honestly, everyone here should be able to look back at the WiiPS360 gen and find amazing games they may have missed rather than forcing down an atrocious title like recently released like Ride to Hell, Star Trek, or The Fast & Furious: Showdown. Some people would rather play new, mediocre games than dig for amazing gems, but they are missing out. I will play shi**y games though, but only if it's on a friend dare competition. What we do is find a horrible title and see how long we can play it before we give up, usually over some beers and chuckles. A sort of MST3K for bad games.

So many shitty games last gen. To be truthful I wouldn't even know where to begin.

This new gen looks to be a carbon copy of last gen, just with better graphics and broken promises about 1080p 60 fps.

*sigh*

Did gaming peak during the PS2 era? I'm starting to think it did.

Final Fantasy 13, Infamous 2, Dragon Age 2 (because these were shit compared to the predecessors).

Because most people don't go out of their way to play truly bad games.

While that is clearly obvious that people don't go out of their way to play truly bad games from the posts and common sense, it is correct. It begs the question why I noted that? The reason I mentioned the disparity along with listing actually truly bad games though was because I wanted to draw attention to the thread's flawed premise and impending results. The idea isn't flawed, but the polling audience is. The skewed results we will get in this thread will not be the most accurate representation of truly bad games.

There is also the politics of the factions to consider skewing results further.

Besides the commentary, I also cited and lead by example some truly bad games. I noticed you didn't list any games at all, hopefully it's because you didn't play any truly horrible "worst games of last gen" games.

Personally, I wouldn't even post in a thread like this if all if all I did was play top rated (critically) games, because I know I wasn't subjected to truly terrible games. Of course, I can't expect people to not post if they don't have the history, which means the question probably shouldn't be asked if one wanted a good sampling and good results, at least here in SW.

Judging from the turnout so far, Truly horrible games won't be win the tally's but rather good games that people merely don't like very much will win....which is a unfortunate because those truly deplorable, awful games belong in "the hall of shame". Instead I'm seeing some great to good games being listed and most likely will win "worst games of last gen".

For this particular question, it seems SW is the wrong place to ask if one wanted to collect a decent answer, bottom-line. I would love to see some really poor, buggy, terrible games be declared worst games of last generation, but alas 'tis not to be.

First World Problems and all that, of course.

Resident Evil 6 and Sonic 2006.

#27 Edited by mbrockway (3345 posts) -

Just listing games I bought and played. Shift 2. That game was awful and unplayable. What a great idea, lets put a 1/2 second delay into a racing game! FF13, I've never hated so many characters in a game. GTA4 and GTA5. Why do I keep falling for the stupid hype, R* is awful and the last good game they made was RDR. Those are the only ones I can think of.

#28 Posted by freedomfreak (38118 posts) -

Some really good games in this thread.

1. Unearthed: Trail of Ibn Battuta
2. Lair
3. Quantum Theory
4. Bullet Witch
5. Two Worlds
6. Haze

Got 6.

#29 Edited by StriateEnd (497 posts) -

Far Cry 2. Laawwwwd. Far Cry 3 ended up being my fav FPS on the ps3.

Final Fantasy 13. Absolute dog shite

Mass Effect 2. Bollocks, whenever I turn this piece of shit on it gives me a headache. That's how much it sucked.

Gears of War franchise. Ugly, bland, uninspired, Uncharted and Vanquish did what Gears does 1000000x better. The list goes on. Multiplayer became shitter as the games went on.

COD MW3. Unbelievably bad. This is it guys. The worse game of the gen. I legit enjoyed the first two modern warfare games but this was terrible.

Yeah, I try to not play shovelware and games that I can tell are terrible just by looking at a couple gameplay vids.

Joe Danger 2 The Movie (PC) - i hate everything about this game and only played it as it was in humble bundle

The new Tomb Raider (PC) - I did actually finish this but hated almost all of it and dont understand how it got so much praise

Some game called Toki Tori 2+ (PC) - Couldnt play this for more than 5 minutes. Also part of humble bundle

Fallout 3 (PS3) - What a bore fest zzzzz

Cant really think of any others but speaking of bad games, I know Resi 6 is supposed to be terrible, but I am thinking of getting it when its about £5 on Steam. Is it so bad its actually quite funny? I put in quite a few hours into 5 and almost have the platinum trophy and I have all the DLC, despite me thinking its a bad game, but I keep getting sucked into it. I kinda wanna see how bad 6 is.

#37 Posted by Pikminmaniac (8566 posts) -

Keep in mind that I avoid most of the truly terrible stuff.

1) Uncharted 2 (if you were to design a game that's exactly the opposite of everything I've come to believe is good game design it would play a lot like Uncharted 2)

2) Flower (just no point IMHO)

3) inFAMOUS Festival of Blood (I love the inFAMOUS series a lot, but this was just terrible. The morality system is removed, the powers are limited, and the enemies were poorly designed)

4) Epic Mickey (so much potential and so many good ideas, but it played horribly and never fully realized its potential)

5) Red Steel 2 (whoever thought using the Wii remote to control the camera and the sword motions should be fired... That was just plain stupid)

#38 Edited by nonsoville2 (4123 posts) -

-Final Fantasy 13 (Was very very disappointed and decided not to buy the other 2. Looking forward to FFXV however. Hopefully they maintain the traditional gameplay and a solid story).

-Alone in the Dark (What a let down. The game was pure garbage)

-The Outfit (What a load of shit!)

-Resident Evil 6 (Need I say more?)

-Def Jam Icon

A whole heap of Wii games that breathless IGN+Nintendo fansites + Sheep on here told me were worth playing: The Conduit (complete shit), Madworld (4 hours of button bashing), Arc Rise Fantasia (D list JRPG), Epic Mickey (cool concept, awful execution), Sonic Secret Rings (on rails waggle fest) and so on. I was always looking for more good Wii games but there were WAY too money mediocre to shit ones hyped up.

On 360, Mercs 2 and Resi 6 were both awful sequels to games I really loved. And Too Human was a game I was super hyped for but turned out a mess.

On PS3, the whole Resistance, KIllzone, War/Starhawk, MAG, Socom pile of Sony shooters were just crap.

@sukraj, Driv3r came out during the 6th gen, and while i'm speaking about the game I will mention that I really enjoyed it, it's a shame that it was severely underrated due to a combination of it's genre and name.

In no order as it's difficult, and I am only limiting it to games that I played, so no one cry because I have Mass Effect 2 on the list and not Aliens: Colonial Marines.

  • Resident Evil 5: Turning a loved survival horror franchise into an action franchise in a generation where survival horror games are pretty much unheard of is bad enough even if the action is good, well it is horrendous when when the action is bad, the game has absolutely nothing scary about it what so ever, the 'zombies' felt more like regular people with red eyes and the inventory system was an unnecessary step back, quite possibly the worst part about Resident Evil 5 is the controls, in previous games, the controls added tension since they were survival horror games, in Resident Evil 5, it adds nothing but annoyance. Resident Evil 5 add's co-op to the game which allows you to play through the entire game with a friend (that would have to be a friend that you would stick with for better and for worse) which would be great if the game was great, and if none of your friends have the game (lucky them), you are forced to play with an AI partner that has the IQ of a brain damaged dog. And did I mention? the game is set during the day.
  • Mass Effect 2: Having 30+ hours of gameplay is a good thing right? well yes and no, and in Mass Effect 2's case, no as the gameplay was painfully boring, nearly all the gameplay is just third person shooting, and that would be fine if the level design and combat were up to modern standards, or any standards for that matter, but Mass Effect 2 has combat that feels like you are running around playing with pea-shooters and super-soakers, and the level design is nothing but un-detailed and poorly designed corridors that are full of unnecessary and out-of-place chest high walls. The story and visuals are great (too bad that the games level design doesn't how off it's visual quality) but nothing like that save a game from bad gameplay.
  • Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots: Metal Gear Solid 4 does have great gameplay, so what's the problem? the problem is that there is roughly only 4 hours of it while there is roughly 13+ hours of unnecessarily long cutscenes, but at least they fixed the camera and menu controls that plagued previous games. What really puts the final nail in the coffin for Metal Gear Solid 4 is the disgusting cash grabbing, Metal Gear Solid 4 had a (now closed) multiplayer mode called Metal Gear Online, the initial multiplayer was free of charge, but you had to make two separate accounts and patch the game (which took forver) in order to play it, but that is actually not the issue, oh no, the issue is worse than that, if you want additional content, you have to pay for it, rather than unlocking it (and just to remind you, this is in a game that only has 4 hours of single player content), and to make things just that bit worse, want to make a new character? better get your PayPal details. This is cash grabbing at it's worst.

I know you said 5, but I will leave it at that, I can't be bothered writing anymore, for now at least.

I know you said 5, but I will leave it at that, I can't be bothered writing anymore, for now at least.

sorry my bad
