@hrt_rulz01: Yeah most people just either go full fanboy or just post up a list of really popular games to somehow try to seem edgy or cool.
Yep, pretty much.

Yep, pretty much.
@hrt_rulz01: it rarely promotes any stimulating discussion - just people crapping on stuff that their preferences don't align with. I mean... isn't it fair to say that if you take any series someone raves about, we try it, we don't like it, this is something that we will think "well, that was overrated..."? It's the natural response, and not a very interesting one
@ghosts4ever: What do you like?
Gritty paramilitary fps' with male protagonists and semi realistic visual design (nothing from EA or Activision though. too popular).
Hitman.
Deus Ex (the first and HR)
And System Shock 2
That's it. Nothing else.
GTA - I just don't know what people see in it.
AC - Crazy high scores every single time for what is exactly the same game with different scenery, every time.
Metal Gear - Same as GTA, incredibly popular series that bores me rigid.
Thief - The old ones and the new one, both impressively boring, it can't be easy to take literally all the excitement out of a game before you release it but they manage it every time.
Ah yes the age old "you're just being edgy" for picking on something as not that good, it can't be that you have a valid grievance against the game or games, it has to be just the edge. Why do some of you even post on a forum if your knee jerk reaction is to get butthurt about edge, when someone shares an opinion. You do get how forums work? right?
@ghosts4ever: What do you like?
Gritty paramilitary fps
wrong. I hate military FPS games. or anything involve army, millitary, warfare, modern or ancient world war.
@xantufrog: Yep exactly. And fanboys will just list all the main exclusives from the other side... it's stupid.

Stalker, Metro, Doom. You rub yourself to those titles daily. Apparently you don't know what "paramilitary" means.
@zombieproof: i thought you my friend talk about military shooters.
anyways, I missed that max payne avatar guy (cant remember his name) from GT. it was fun debating him..

I miss him too. He did a great job keeping you in check and I was allowed to just chill and watch the fireworks and eat popcorn from a distance. I've chosen to pick up the torch in his absence.
*edit*
I think his name was Fragmaniac lol
Grand Theft Auto (Minus San Andreas)
Pokémon. Could just never get into the "hype" (especially the Go phase. WTF was that)
Metal gear Solid. I can appreciate them for what they are, I just personally don't see them as that good
Uncharted series. Boring, slow, cut scene driven dribble
@aigis:
A Link Between Worlds is great though. :(
What didn't you like about it?
Personally its good, not great. The game was a cakewalk which I feel is a big faux pas when it comes to puzzles and the story was just serviceable, I dont remember any of it particularly being great
@smearygoose1768: Most overrated would be.
Quake. How could I forget Quake? Jesus that was fucking terrible. Quake Arena does not excuse how fucking awful the SP games were.
@ConanTheStoner: I didn't had a N64 at the time, played Mario64 and OoT for the first time last year. Loved M64, apart from camera controls it's easily one of the best platformers I've ever played. OoT played it for 2h or so and dropped it. Not saying it's bad but it surely didn't aged well. Still Zelda has some stellar games Imo.
Yeah a lot of the things that made OoT such an incredibly special game at the time just don't translate for someone playing it today. OoT is a good game, but it had the benefit of the gen 5 novelty factors taken to the extreme. Pretty much everything that made it seem a cut above other games at the time has since become common place, expanded, and improved upon, even within its own sequels.
A lot of its more clumsy aspects are certainly products of their time. Stuff that's easier to recognize now that this industry has multiple generations of 3d gaming under its belt. But even putting those early 3d gaming growing pains aside, there were some straight up suspect design choices that we just glossed over back then due to the wow factor of it all.
I do remember thinking that it was the perfect game and the best game of all time lol. I was absolutely part of that camp for a while. And if anybody argued otherwise, I was one of those jackasses who would point to GameRankings.com and be like "See! Highest score evar!"... gross.
But to still maintain that narrative today is just horse shit. Not saying OoT can't be a persons favorite game. But to pretend it's far and away the best game this industry has to offer? That doesn't really hold up under any real scrutiny.
As for the series in general, yeah it's one of my favorites. Plenty of good games, and a couple that are arguably great. Even the weaker Zelda games were still pretty enjoyable to me. I think there's a good argument for calling the series overrated, but I also think this series carries much more merit than a lot of franchises that garner similar praise.
@PAL360: Yeah Ubisoft open world formula is just liberating outposts and the main mission. They should add more side activities and side missions and tie then all together in a single package instead of being optional. They should require you to do side missions and activities to progress the main story. Also you level up based on experiemce points like Blood Dragon and unlock the weapons thru side missions or getting collectibles. Customizable weapons.
Uncharted, Witcher, Zelda, Halo.
Come at me everyone.
Add Grand Theft Auto to this and it's perfect. I mean the Witcher can be dropped from that list, replace it with Half Life.
Half Life is a good game but it doesn't deserve all the praise it gets IMO. It's a solid FPS with a cool story but it just doesn't do any different than other FPS. I've always wanted a shooter where you are in a police state similar to that of Half Life and are constantly on the run from police and could barricade yourself in houses putting tables, sofas, chairs in the way of doors to block them. Eventually the police get in by either blasting in it with grenades to clear the door, C4 their way in from the wall and other ways to get to you. The police has to have the upper hand most of the time and in most cases will kill you if you try to fight the group. Ahh can someone imagine.
Halo and Bethesda games.
Skyrim especially. I never understood the hype and love for that turd. I mean each to their own, but I constantly played it thinking "how?"
Oh yeah, I forgot to add Bethesda games to my list. I agree with the newer Elder Scrolls and Fallout games. Mediocre attempts that are heralded as elite.

I admit it wasn't the wises idea to make this thread as you said it rarely promotes discussion from what I've seen. It was funny to make it at the time but didn't expect this fuckery, also people tend to interchange "overrated" with "dislike" but then again people are just naming popular games and those are the most critically acclaimed.
@killered3: No can do :) back in the day bought an Xbox to experience it and it did literally nothing for me. Tried it again when Halo 3 came out and again nothing. Didn't even finish the campaign.
@aigis:
It is an easy game but I still found it very enjoyable to play. I can totally understand why people would put it as their favorite game that year.
@ConanTheStoner: I can relate to that. At the time every time I saw OoT it made me regret having a PS and not a N64. The game had many aspects that seemed magical to me and I'm sure if I had played it at the time I would love it. But today there's way too much awkwardness there.
But ye, my favourite game of all time is Another World but I will never ask for someone who plays it now for the first time to agree with me.
LOZ is genuinely overrated. I overall love the franchise, but it isnt this perfect godsend that a large majority of its fans make it out to be.

@i_p_daily: I don't even like GTA that much after GTA 4. I agree is a currently overrated franchise with lifeless enviornment and world. I love the Metal Gear series because of the story with unique and well voiced cast of characters. MGS PP was my least favorite but MGS series is one of the best in my book. Why don't you like it?
Sorry for the late reply as i have notifications turned off, way to many troll posts otherwise.
I have played 4 MGS games and the only one i finished was MGS on the original PS, and by the time i had finished it i was glad it was over, and i never finished the other 3 games, in the end i just found them boring and the gameplay wasn't really fun. I don't get the praise they get.
As for GTA being "currently" overrated, well i'd say they always were. They would be the worst open world/sandbox games i've ever played. 4 was so bad that i vowed i would never buy another game in the series, so i'm glad i never wasted money on 5.
@sts106mat: Good stuff man, the more people that use that gif the better, oh but watch out he's going to say you're butthurt lol.

yeah, but you see, you're objectivelly and mathematically wrong. Half Life isnt just some random game that does the same as others. That you perceive it now as such is funny, ALL the OTHER games have copied HL, thats why you feel its like the rest. Half Life is factually a landmark game, this is concrete, historic fact, that is all well documented - its not someones opinion on it. Half Life changed the entire gaming world almost overnight and its influence on gaming is unquantifiable - every genre and platform was affected by it, directly or not. You have its dna in games from Resident Evil 4 all the way to Uncharted.
Theres no such thing as overrated PC games - they always had to survive on their own two legs, on their actual merrits. There was never a corporate backer to hype and overinflate titles. Never brand loyalty from gamers or journos. Always their own strenghts
