What are the chances of WiiU outselling XBONE in June NPD?

#1 Posted by -Damien- (5355 posts) -

While Xbone sales is tanking (77K in May NPD), WiiU is enjoying a renaissance (67K in May NPD) due to MK8. Then Nintendo came out swinging at E3 (although I think Sony still won E3 with Bloodborne) which I think will generate more buzz for WiiU post-E3. Meantime all exclusive rumours for Xbone didn't materialize at E3. Xbone came out limp.

So what are the chances of WiiU outselling Xbone in June? as a playstation gamer, I have to say WiiU starting to look mightily attractive

Tanking = 77,000

Renaissance = 67,000

___

Makes sense to me!!

lol no chance, I'm my view XboxOne will always out sale the wiiu

#4 Posted by YearoftheSnake5 (7984 posts) -

It's not unfathomable. With MK8 pushing units, the Wii U may have outsold the Xbox One. At least for last month.

#5 Posted by I_can_haz (6511 posts) -

The chances are pretty good. MK8 is a sales beast and XBone has no system sellers in June.

The Luigi Death Stare versus Jesse Pinkman. Can't wait.

context mate, context!

March NPD

Xbone 300K

WiiU 15K

Pretty high, I'd say. This is the first month that Mario Kart 8 will be out for all of it (it came out at the very end of May). I'm quite curious as to how it helps the Wii-U in sales.

PS4>>>Wii U>>>X1 this month on NPD. MK8 is good.

It's almost like Xbox One had a system seller release in March or something.... And if an increase of 50,000 is a renaissance, than Nintendo is in DIRE straights.

#14 Posted by inb4uall (6310 posts) -

Like more consoles sold for the month? Almost definitely. More sold to date? No.

#15 Posted by Bigboi500 (30960 posts) -

In a sane world the one with games should sell better.

I wonder if TC even owns a current gen console.

WiiU LOL...................... not a chance of that happening after the price drop.

#18 Edited by Boggle_Dragon (125 posts) -

WiiU will do well, but dat price cut for the XBO *should* see it up there giving the PS4 a hard time.

Who knows...

#19 Posted by LegatoSkyheart (26220 posts) -

I'd say it's pretty high since Xbone hasn't had a good Reason for Consumers to buy since March. WiiU had Mario Kart 8 at the beginning of this month.

#20 Posted by VERTIGO47 (6347 posts) -

Zero....Zilch....Nada!..... If you look at it in the Long Run.

Gamers want 3rd party games, and clearly they either don't exist or are very limited on WiiU.

WiiU has a chance to stand on its own with Nintendo games, and those games may push WiiU sales temporarily, but that's about it. Expect droughts after droughts after droughts and then in comes a Nintendo game to push more units.

For this entire generation, it goes like this:

  1. PS4
  2. X1
  3. WiiU

xbone n wiiu are tied for being dead. ps4 is the only system that matters this gen imho facts

Yeah that's not gonna happen. I do expect the Wii U to sell reasonably well this month, though.

#24 Posted by StrifeDelivery (1750 posts) -

Got to ask what is going to have the bigger impact: MK8 or the Xbone price drop?

Even if Mario Kart 8 had the larger impact, it's likely that the Xbox One still does better in absolute terms because it had a better baseline to be working from to begin with.

#26 Posted by scoots9 (3252 posts) -

NPD probably not. Worldwide maybe.

Love the way the cows (and Sony even) use Nintendo in such patronising back-handed manner. That's why Nintendo doesn't respond in kind, because they aren't stupid enough to take it.

X1 and PS4 tied at e3 accept it, Nintendo beat them both out. It was deserved. The Wii U is better than the PS4 and X1 right now and deserves all the success it gets. See the Wii U has these things on it called games, something the owners of the other two will become familiar with after the dry first year comes to an end.

Kind of like 80 million PS3 sold = failure by sony.

While 80 million 360 sold for MS = success.

#32 Posted by GoldenElementXL (3777 posts) -

The Wii U has been beating the PS4 in Japan for over a month now. The Wii U could see a nice jump in the U.S. as well. We'll see I guess.

#33 Posted by Sollet (7508 posts) -

I think Nintendo screwed this gen up.

Granted they have some really good titles now and some upcoming titles... But it feels like the majority of people who wanted a Wii U already got one. Yeah sure there are those who wants a price drop but I don't think it'll make the Wii U sell like hot cakes like the original Wii did.

#34 Posted by trugs26 (5827 posts) -

It's definitely a possibility, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Sony sold over 150 million PS2s. Sony was unstoppable in the 6th generation. They should have dominated the 7th generation. Instead they ended up in 3rd place. They even had to start combining PS2 and PS3 sales towards the end to try and hide that third place landing. You don't consider that failure? I would be willing to be most Sony stockholders considered it a failure.

@-Damien-: Nintendo won E3. Sony & Microsoft tied for 2nd.

I'll be surprised if Wii U outsells the XB1. Even though Nintendo won the E3, most of the great games they showed aren't coming out until 2015. XB1 price cut should have given it a good surge of sales. Will it be on top for June? We'll see.

80 million was the kick in the ass sony needed M$ woulda been better off if they had sold 70 million they'd of tried harder instead of thinking their shit dont stink.

I would say there is a less than 20% chance that Wiiu outsells XboxOne in June

#39 Posted by TrappedInABox91 (972 posts) -

Meh. Maybe.

#40 Posted by santoron (7960 posts) -

I doubt it, but nothing is out of the question for June.

WiiU will get the rest of its MK8 surge.

XB1 will grab attention for ditching Kinect.

PS4 did nothing.

So these three ending up in any order wouldn't be shocking. Certainly not for the slow Slow SLOW month of June. Longer term everyone will return to their typical order.

  • Microsoft sold 24+ million Xbox's
  • Sony sold 155+ million PS2's

Do I really need to explain any further?

#43 Posted by DocSanchez (2238 posts) -

Probably wont happen. I see titles like Mario Kart being very important for the fans who bought the console in the first place but not titles that will win the naysayers around. It's a title people knew was coming to this generation years before it was ever announced. People weren't holding off for the announcement. It will sell a few consoles but in my opinion not a great deal.

Xbox 1 had a price cut. That was sorely needed.

#44 Posted by Nengo_Flow (10389 posts) -

IDK but the WiiU has a good chance of having higher monthly sales from now till the end of the year than PS4 X1

#48 Posted by WitIsWisdom (3836 posts) -

I would say it is possible, but I find it unlikely. I hope Nintendo does... I really do. Not for any bias reason though. I just want to see all three meet with success, so that we as game players continue receiving the best of all worlds.
