Is it even worth playing? I haven't bothered.
disappointing that it's apparently canon for the start of the timeline :/
Amazing music (seriously, might be the best soundtrack in the series), excellent story (an actual good story, yes), great characterization, incredible dungeon design. I'd say go for it if you're a series fan, yeah.
I'll have to see what Mcshea hated about it so much, I was never crazy with the art style but the positives you list seem to outweigh the negatives, I do like Zelda.
The issues are horrible pacing (like, it takes six hours just to get to the first dungeon, there are repeated fetch quests that grind the game to a halt, there's backtracking all over the place), tacked on motion controls for everything but combat (seriously, you fly your bird by, I shit you not, flapping your Wiimote at the screen, you swim the same way, you control your dives using motion controls, you roll bombs the same way, control flight of the Beetle the same way, contort your hands into all sorts of shapes to get keys to fit into doors, and so on), complete lack of an overworld with a sectioned design that takes away any sense of discovery, and probably most offensively, repeated tutorials that like to treat you like a brain damaged human being that flat out give away the solutions to many puzzles.
