Well Sony just lost my money..(digital sales)

I just started getting into digital sales on PSN and I purchased The Last of Us about 14 days ago. Sony just dropped the price to 44.99 from 59.99. In my experience with retail outlets is that if you purchase a game and the price drops within 15-30 days (depending on retailer) one could get the price difference. Sony offers none of that in the digital world so as far as I'm concerned I'm done buying stuff from their digital store and will continue to purchase from actual stores. Just seems a bit stupid that they can't offer refunds for up to a certain time period like most places do. Not exactly sure how MS handles these situations, but if its similar to Sony I wont be touching the next gen digital stores for anything more than a couple of dollars.

By the way it isn't a promotion, but a permanent price drop.

I don't know if any digital store does this actually

Most stores offer refunds for when you're not happy with a purchase. Not so you can purchase it again at a lower price or claim the difference back. I've never seen it in the UK, ever. And with digital goods, right across the board, you'd be lucky to get a refund if the product was faulty, no matter what company it is.

no, i dont think its the permanent price.i think its part of PSN's "Sale of the dead" Holloween sale. pretty sure after halloween is over its going back up to $59.99.

I have never heard of this. Doubt it is true.

Pretty sure it's only common in some countries. Definitely not in the US.

No. It's definitely somewhat common in the US. Target, Best Buy both do it as part of their policies - you can get a "price adjustment" within 14 days if you see a lower ad price the following week. That is even if you opened and played with the item. However beyond the 14 days, you cannot get a price adjustment. Only a full return, and that is obviously assuming you didn't open the item at all.

However Amazon does NOT do this officially. I doubt most other internet retailers would have a part of this either - and FORGET ABOUT IT for digital content on Steam, XBOX Live, PSN, etc. NONE of the digital guys do this. When you think about it, it's actually stupid for retailers to be constantly adjusting the price AFTER a sale is final. The result is entitled's like the OP. But some B&M retailers have indeed had this policy for as long as I remember, I've done it a few times when the price difference is big enough.

That's the price you pay when you get instant digital only games.

Why do you think so many people still buy physical copies?

#12 Posted by danabo (2474 posts) -

Looks to me like Sony just took your money. It's your own fault for buying a digital download.

#13 Posted by iHarlequin (1789 posts) -

... almost no store offers refunds on products that receive a price reduction after you purchase them. That's a ridiculous idea (no offense).

#14 Edited by lundy86_4 (42876 posts) -

That's pretty rare, and only comes when you whine like a girl.

#15 Posted by heretrix (37296 posts) -

Lol. I just bought the Last of Us from PSN a few minutes ago for 35.99 (PSN+)...

It has an extremely shitty dl and install process. Instead of downloading the entire game and then installing it, it downloads some bullshit 100+ meg install file, then once that is installed you have to look at a fucking download page with a static pic of Joel and Ellie on it for MORE THAN AN HOUR. (way more if your internet is shit).

Absolutely ridiculous. At least hope is on the horizon with the PS4 and it's ability to play a game while it's downloading. I'll just finish the process when I go to bed tonight.

so you agreed to pay a price for something. DAYS later they lower the price...

Now you mad?

You do know how entertainment prices work right? prices goes down has times goes

#18 Posted by Newhopes (4472 posts) -

Why would you even buy as game off PSN anyway it's a rip off?

It's actually not Amazon's policy to price adjust. You might get a CSR to do it, but they mark it against you (and they actually track that shit).

Basically if you make a habit of "price adjusting" at Amazon, you will get a letter like this:

[quote]

Greetings from Amazon.com.

A careful review of your account indicates that you have required refunds on a large majority of your orders for a variety of reasons.

In the normal course of business, the occasional problem is inevitable. The rate at which such problems have occurred on your account is extraordinary, however, and cannot continue. Effective immediately, your Amazon.com account is closed and you are no longer able to shop in our store.

Please know that any accounts related to yours have also been closed. If you were to open a new account, the same will result and it will also be closed. In the event that you attempt to do so, we will not accept the return of any additional orders, nor will we issue further refunds in connection with any future orders. We appreciate your cooperation in refraining from using our web site.Going forward, all inquiries must be directed to (deleted email address). Please do not contact regular Customer Service again, as they will no longer be able to assist you.

Steam wouldn't do it either, but personally I vouch for you doing physical media over digital as I am still a fan of the box and disc. I do some digital as what I get for free as part of PSN+ and recently Xbox Live. (also heavily discounted games, I got the Alice Madness games for like 5 bucks for both on PSN). Same with Steam, only when on sale.

I miss the instruction booklet, I love cracking open a game and smelling the booklet as well as reading (yes, I'm weird, as I love the smell of fresh instruction booklets, same with Magic the Gathering, opening a booster and smelling it is so so good lol).

I also like displaying my collection on a shelf too, so I will buy physical media for as long as I can.

#21 Edited by ryangcnx-2 (1192 posts) -

Also though, Best Buy will price match within it's 15 day return policy if it goes on sale later. Another plus to retail.

I have also had some amazon orders get the discount refunded to me if they went on sale shortly after I purchased the game, usually it's within 1 week though, dunno about anything after.

Sounds like Sony is still getting your money. And they got an extra $15 of pocket change to boot.

so your mad a game price drop or had a sale after you bought it....Get over it. It happens all the time.

#25 Posted by Murderstyle75 (4165 posts) -

Its only a sale. The 44.99 is the sale price for members who don't have plus. By Tuesday the price returns to 59.99.

And for the record, TC pretty much got the game for $50 since he will receive a $10 credit towards a new purchase by mid November for spending $50 or more on the store.

#26 Edited by Merex760 (4284 posts) -

Steam doesn't do this. Nor does Microsoft or Nintendo iirc. Welcome to digital sales.

#27 Edited by Gxgear (10425 posts) -

Looks like Microsoft/Nintendo/EA/Ubisoft/Valve just lost your money too.

#28 Posted by Ghost120x (3708 posts) -

Sony trolled you. Don't worry it happened to me too. I bought a movie off of psn only to find out that once I deleted it to save memory I could not re-download it again for free.

Check your download history. They changed their policy on this apparently, since I can redownload movies/TV stuff I got back in 2010.

#31 Posted by SexyJazzCat (890 posts) -

#32 Posted by cainetao11 (16663 posts) -

Well you obviously thought the game was worth $60, so what changed? Because its cheaper AFTER you bought it? You paid for it, play it. Its a great game.

#33 Posted by Caseytappy (2131 posts) -

Digital is a disgrace .

They save on physical production, transport and big retailer cuts but still charge you the same amount .

#34 Posted by Netret0120 (2008 posts) -

Retail stores ftw. I never buy from the PSN store.

#35 Posted by darkspineslayer (19493 posts) -

I'm sure if you had this problem with Steam, XBL, EShop or another digital avenue, you would have a much better time with your petty complaint.

That's interesting. I remember my buddy being able to appeal to the Steam gods when he bought Arma X anniversary bundle at full price, and it went down to 75% off a couple of days later and he got refunded the difference. But then again, this was a little before the Day Z craze, and certainly before BI started keeping Arma 2 sales at a strict 50% off.

#38 Edited by Heil68 (43273 posts) -

Yup and why I wont buy digital versions of game sunless there is a significant price difference from retail version.

#39 Edited by TheEroica (13251 posts) -

Ps3 handles downloads installs and updates like it hates you and wants you to know it... Such a poorly conceived console in that respect, especially whencompared to the competition. Viva la xbox.

that's why you only do digital on PC. the prices on PC are so low (for a WAY better version of the game) that it doesn't matter when you spend $2.49 -12.49 for a new game. you basically have nothing to lose.

examples below:

Tomb Raider

http://www.getgamesgo.com/category/Tomb-Raider-Sale

Metro Last Light

http://store.steampowered.com/app/43160/

Mass Effect Collection

http://store.steampowered.com/sub/18260/

Spec Ops: The Line

http://store.steampowered.com/app/50300/

Bioshock infinite

Borderlands 2

Max Payne 3 Complete

Doom 3

http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/us/en/pc/games/action/doom-3/

compare those prices any day of the week with those so called "sales" that both psn and xbl offer. tell me which platform offers you a great deal and which ones flat out dry rape you? it's clear. the only platform that offers great deals and awesome sales on great games is PC. console don't even close.

Don't know about movies since I don't buy any movies from the psn store, but you can go to your downloaded list and re-download anything for free.

With pure digital buys, all sales are final. It's the same thing for iTunes, Steam, and Xbox Live. Same way, they won't offer you a refund if you have last second buyers remorse.
