For one simple reason. Shared architectures.
If the next Xbox also uses AMD procesors (both CPU and GPU) then games will be cheaper to develop on the PS4, Xbox720 and the PC. All 3 systems would be using x86 which makes porting things between consoles and to the PC much easier. Xbox720/PC will also be very similar in that they'll be using DirectX as the API. All 3 systems will be using AMD's GCN graphics architecture which means what's learned on console should translate to PC for Radeon users. The only major difference is that the PS4 will be using Linux so its graphics API is probably OpenGL, but even that benefits the PC market as there is an ongoing effort to push more games to Linux.
That leaves the Wii U as the odd man out. It differentiates itself by using IBM's PowerPC CPUs and AMD's (what I assume to be) VLIW5 architecture instead of GCN.
Of course, PC will always have the highest fidelity of all the systems, but we don't always get the best titles and we definitely haven't been getting the best ports (if we get them at all). Maybe this will all change... maybe.
