Brace for shitload of sequels.

The company announced today that the game sold-through more copies in its first 24 hours of availability than any previous title in the history of Ubisoft.

Ubisoft expects Watch Dogs to sell more than 6 million units throughout its lifetime. That's the same mark that 2007's original Assassin's Creed did.

More here.

After reading users' reviews and comments on Steam, and elsewhere, this game is crap.

Well, I guess, grats Ubisoft?

What do you think?

well it was hyped a lot, but that's modern video game publishing.

i'm not overly concerned with the negative press, i enjoy the game.

ubisoft made a statement a while ago that they're only interested in concepts which are franchise-able.

@IgGy621985: User reviews on Steam are likely based on the bad and buggy PC performance - I bought it on PS4 and played for about 6 hours so far and am still overwhelmed by the amount of things to do, the great (even if a bit two dimensional and generic) story, voice acting, mocap, etc. The game was developed for console, and some of the devs have come forth and said PS4 was by far the system of choice to develop on, from their point of view. I am by no means a Sony fanboy - I only made the switch after the PS4 release and until now have been utterly disappointed with the lack of good games for the last 5 months, but Watch Dogs on console is smooth, fun, and responsive despite what PC gamers may say. It is unfortunate that Ubi would treat PC like such an afterthought, but I would bet the trend of cross-platform games will shrink in the coming generation - development will be hardware specific (even Destiny is not getting a PC version for the foreseeable future, a sign of the times).

Beyond Good & Evil please! But because of the stupid casuals we are always getting similar experiences over and over again on consoles.

Umm...PC gets plenty of multiplats. Destiny not coming to pc means nothing. Look how Dark Souls was an awful port while DS 2 was much better. Plus we get games like DMC releasing just a few weeks after console and games that in the past would have never gone to pc like Revengeance. Porting to pc should be easier than ever with the PS 4 and xones pc like architecture.

That's nice, I added to the sales. Got it from the PS Store at midnight on launch day. I don't regret my purchase at all, the game is amazing as far as gameplay goes. Graphics are a bit iffy at times though lol.

Always easier to sell/start a new franchise in beginning of a new console cycle when people starving for new/more games with not much competition.

@Cranler: Perhaps my lamentation is just a hasty projection of my own disillusionment with PC gaming, I am just speculating on a trend and some of the things I have been reading about devs having a preference for development on the PS4, as well as (in only a very general way) first party companies racing each other for lucrative console-specific IPs.

*full disclosure, I switched to console because I was really sick of the expense of keeping my PC contemporary with high performance triple A titles. Based on the myriad complaints of Watch Dogs being nearly unplayable on anything but a very high performance PC, I am glad I made the change.

@FoxbatAlpha: Out of curiosity, I timed how long it took (on PS4) to launch the game from the dashboard to loading my continue game save, 2 min 3 sec. total. From the time I hit continue until the game loaded was 1 min 5 sec.

I didn't time it but last night it didn't seem that long. Today when i loaded it, it took a damn while. Close to that though. I will fire it up later and time it.

Thanks for the insight. Makes me more open to this game. I'll still wait till it's a bit cheaper, but now I'm looking forward to it.

Its not crap. Most of the people bashing it probably hate Uplay, are angry about the perceived graphics downgrade or are just angry idiots who like whining on the internet. I bet most of them either haven't played the game or pirated it and played like 20 minutes and jumped to absurd conclusions.

Ofcourse it is...

it has

guns

cars

ridiculously unrealistic hacking system

grand theft auto elements

About the only new "big game" out atm.

... Assassins and Templars weren't chavvy enough for the console market... this equally shallow crap was bound to sell in the millions.

@with_teeth26 tell me what changes after the first out of gameplay? ... and don't be a smart ass about it.... Im not including cutscene time in that. Its a ubisoft game... I'm sure you will find some techinical little details to make a smidge of a credible arguement.... but in reality nothing.

Then again people here drooled over Far Cry 3 .... and that was as shallow as any other ubisoft sandbox. no substance, just flashy and lots of fetch n collect with no depth.

Not to mention the police on this game can't even handle water properly.... but then... has ubisoft ever done that?

Aye. It's fun. The fact it has some form of challenge and difficulty for me automatically makes it better than Assassins Creed.

The protagonist is kinda shitty though. Dark brooding, Hitman sounding fellow seeking revenge.

@uninspiredcup: yeah i agree. the protagonist is pretty run-of-the-mill, but at least his backstory of losing his niece is very simple and easy to understand. a few more hours of study and i think i'll get it.

Based on the reviews and gameplay videos I have seen (including streams from twitch tv), the game appears to be good however does not particularly excel at anything. Will consider buying when on sale, or when a sequel is released which improves on the original formula.

It's more that I don't like the genre. I don't like open world game that place in modern cities than involve shitty driving mechanics and weak ass stories (Watch Dogs and GTA5). I'm sure I'll get blasted, but I'm not even giving Watch Dogs a chance after I bought GTA5 and sold it after about 2 hours of gameplay. Most clips I have seen on YouTube is about these kinds of games are people doing silly stuff in an open world(jackespticeye). That crap doesn't appeal to me.

Still the game didn't have that much hype recently, sure it was hyped to hell from 2012-the graphics downgrade, then people just bashed the hell out the game.

@Animal-Mother: I just read that post on Reddit, seriously that guy wants to complain about a rail track??? it's a video game....I mean we're playing as a Hacker who is pretty freaking good with firearms, hand to...err nightstick? and can cause a city wide blackout with a cellphone..
