This was originally going to include Retail only BUT, with so many fine titles like Rogue Warrior, and even before PC games started cutting down on retail versions, there were still a handful of digital games on top distribution services like Origin, I will just ask you to do the following:

the rest didnt really hold my attention. Only COD i actually spend time on was Black Ops and it was so generic and bland...

I tried Bioschok but lost total interest within the first 3 hours. Same with Borderlands.

It feels different from the original, so I say it does. It was a solid game. I too am a huge fan of bioshock 1. My fav game, but the shooting was a little lackluster for me to consider it best fps. Still my fav game. Were you not letdown by infinite? I hate the direction they took with it. Way too much shooting and it took the mechanic from cod, where you kill all enemies in an area and progress. They just send wave after wave at you.

Yeah, Infinite was a bit of a letdown, but not enough for me not to love it. Love the atmosphere and story, and I didn't think the actual mechanics were as bad as lots of people seem to think. I got tons of enjoyment out of the skyline combat, and the vigor combos. The last time I tried to replay it, I did get bored and stop like halfway through, but that was an attempt at a 4th replay. Most single player campaign games would get boring by then. I did enjoy it thoroughly three times.

And yeah, I figured I'd call Bioshock 1 my favorite shooter, kind of by default, as it's my favorite game of the last gen. If I were to re-order my list, based entirely on the games' mechanical merits as shooters... All three Bioshocks would probably be knocked off completely, FEAR would be MUCH higher, as would Far Cry 3, and Crysis 2 and Counterstrike: Global Offensive probably would have made it.

Tough list as I had a list of 20 I narrowed down, and I'm certain I'm forgetting something. I enjoyed COD2, Deus Ex, Battlefield Bad Company, BF3, Halo3, Killzone 3, and various others I had to cut. I would have put in Portal and Portal 2, but I wasn't sure if they qualified as "FPS".

Someone who likes Crysis 2? When I was a PC only gamer I got blasted for thinking it was the best in the series. I did not enjoy the first at all.

Halo 3 - Some of the most epic large scale fights early on this generation and the HDR was dare I say the best this generation has seen.

I love it, to me it and MW3 were the best 2. I thought Black Ops 2 was nothing more than a camping head-glitch fest. It seems most people either like IW's way or Treyarch's way. I prefer IW's

Since you said 2005/2013 I guess I could´ve included Battlefield 2 and SWAT 4 since both came out in 05 but it was before the 360 launched so I just left them out.

I guess, but I think Ghosts is the best one in years. MP is much improved. It doesn't reward the campers who sit in the corner or the headglitchers with target finder on.

How is Killzone 2 that high in the list?

Halo 3 and COD4 were crazy fun games.

A lot of us like it? Really simple concept.

Personally I think that's a little silly. FPS by its very nature is a subgenre at best, the point is these games are action games, they just happen to have a first person perspective. The popularity of the genre dictated a sub genre. Ala Sandbox games, still very much shooters, but the structural difference/playground hub worlds+the popularity of the genre dictated a new term.

Prime has just been trying to satisfy in more than just action, but the Action is very much a major aspect of the game. I didn't adventure those bosses to death or adventure my way through the pirates. It's a game willing to not be a by the numbers shooter, but frankly Metroid Prime is every bit a FPS. It's an action adventure game in the first person perspective. It's not that different from a System Shock 2 or a Deus Ex or a Half Life 2(well it's not boring like Half Life 2). They all mess with the formula enough to be distinct and different from the traditional FPS, but the basic stuff is all there. They are just willing to go a step or two further.

And in Prime 3s case, that is a FPS parading itself around as a Metroid Prime game. It may have the facade of a Metroid Prime experience, but it's primary source of entertainment is those sharp controls(the game is going out of its way to say THE WII MOTE IS WONDERFUL FOR FPS GAMES), some of the boss fights, and kicking some pirate ass. Bad game? obviously not, it's pretty okay, even really good at times. But it is a shallower game than both its predecessors. It's pace/structure are different enough to keep it distinct from Halo, but it's a neutered Metroid Prime game at best.

I suppose you have a point (don't feel like changing my vote tho, lol).

I agree that Prime 3 was noticeably shallower than the other two, but I liked the actual action better. Prime 1 still wins out tho, both in terms of its legacy and overall structure/design.
