Poll: Vita or 3DS - who has the best holiday lineup? (55 votes)

Vita 16%
3DS 73%
a tie 11%

Vita

Sword Art Online Hollow Fragment/Infinity Moment
Hyperdimension Neptunia Re; Birth 1(enhanced remake)
Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair
Murasaki Baby
Tales of Hearts R (enhanced remake)
Freedom Wars
Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited (enhanced remake)
Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines (not confirmed for 2014)

3DS

Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright (US got this late)
Cooking Mama 5
Super Smash Bros 3DS
Fantasy Life
Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal
Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth
Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire (enhanced remake)
Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call

Damn, this is tough. Super Smash is pretty remarkable considering I can't really remember an original AAA fighting game for handhelds. That alone makes 3DS really awesome. I'm sure I would also give the Pokemon remakes a shot too just to see how they come out. But other than, it doesn't look that great for 3DS. On the other hand, Vita has a ton of variety coming out and I'm really looking forward to the Japanese invasion this holiday season (lol). If I have to choose, I think Vita has the slight advantage (could always play smash on Wii U of course). You, SW?

They both look kinda "eh".

That's a tough choice.

*leaves thread* and hopes @SolidGame_basic stands true to his name.

3DS has pokemon and persona although Vita has Dragonronpa, Tales of and Disgaea...

I'll go with Vita this time.

The one that has friggin pokemon and smash bros

#5 Posted by R4gn4r0k (17575 posts) -

Vita has a lineup ? :O

Both are really weak imo. But luckily I still have a bunch to games to finish on both. I really, really hope that the 2015 lineup of both are better.

Most of the games I play on Vita these days are PS2 remakes...

Super Smash Bros 3DS takes a colossal dump over the Vita's Holiday line-up combined.

#7 Posted by bbkkristian (14967 posts) -

Pokemon, Smash Bros, Persona.

3ds, duh.

#8 Edited by GreySeal9 (25561 posts) -

Phoenix Wright and Super Smash Bros gives 3DS an easy win.

#9 Edited by charizard1605 (62713 posts) -

Smash, Pokemon, Persona...

Yeah, 3DS gets this one. Vita's lineup actually looks nice for a change too, though.

Seriously how is this a competition. Pokemon is one of, if not the biggest franchise in handheld gaming. The other is Smash bros. A game series that is the sole most people owned a gamecube or a wii.

#11 Posted by lamprey263 (26134 posts) -

Persona Q is reason enough for me to say 3DS.

ooh, now it's ok to pull the sales card to equate quality

#13 Edited by charizard1605 (62713 posts) -

Incidentally, aren't you missing Minecraft for the Vita section?

It's funny, because that's like the only Vita game that actually has a chance of making a splash at retail, and you forgot all about it lol.

Sales is just one of the things pokemon does well. Pokemon and smash are the reason I bought a 3DS. You're poll proves this. Your thread is shit just like they always are and you should feel bad.

#15 Posted by DrRockso87 (2573 posts) -

It's a tie for me. Both look good, not great. Will be picking up a few games on both sides.

Regardless, Nintendo could take a crap in a box, slap "3DS" on it and it would still sell more than Vita's lineup combined.

No counter argument? Not surprised.

The 3DS.

Jon, don't you have homework to do?

#19 Posted by Telekill (5272 posts) -

It's a tie. Both those lineups are crap.

#20 Posted by Ghost120x (4309 posts) -

3ds uses: Smash, Fantasy life and Pokemon.

It's super effective.

Ps vita faints

2xp earned.

The 3DS lineup is a step down from last year, but Super Smash Bros., Pokemon, and Persona are in no way 'crap.'

#22 Posted by Telekill (5272 posts) -

Smash Bros is probably the only decent game between the two systems and if I had a Wii-U, I'd be buying it for that.

PSV is dead. I'll be buying The Walking Dead Season 2 for it and then it's a glorified accessory. The 3DS in the home is my 7 year old daughter's. She will probably get the Disney Frozen Olaf game for Christmas.

#23 Edited by nini200 (10636 posts) -

This is probably the one time that loVita doesn't win.

#24 Posted by FlamesOfGrey (7511 posts) -

Missing Retail Vita Games:

Arcana Hearts 3

Hatsune Miku Project Diva F 2nd

Minecraft

Natural Doctrine

Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus

The Walking Dead Season 2

The Wolf Among Us

It also has games like Binding of Issac Rebirth and Skullgirls etc.. coming from indies.

Missing 3DS Retail Games:

Pokemon Art Academy

Story Of Seasons (Newest Harvest Moon)

I'm not sure what holiday indie games the 3DS is getting but it can't compete of that front.

Vita

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re; Birth 1(enhanced remake)

Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair

Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines (not confirmed for 2014)

3DS

Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call

Thats basically my list. I would have gotten Freedom wars and Tales of heart but lack of dub for dialog heavy games=skip. Seems like a half hearted attempt at bringing it over. If oreshika doesint come over then its a tie for me.

#29 Posted by TheEroica (14620 posts) -

Overall, probably the 3ds, but I'll probably still be playing borderlands and a bunch of indies on vita through the holidays. I like my 3ds but for some reason I almost never play it. Zelda spoiled me last year.

How do you like Borderlands? I've been playing it recently and think it's alright. Definitely playable and great for on the go.

#31 Edited by MclarenMaster18 (55 posts) -

I have to say 3DS will have the best holiday line up for this year since in previous years that 3DS has more games than PS Vita.

#32 Edited by TheEroica (14620 posts) -

@SolidGame_basic: I actually think it's easily the worst platform to play borderlands on by a long shot. The gunplay is ok, despite the deficiencies in the control scheme, namely the back touch screen nonsense and up close combat is nearly broken outside mele... bullets travel through freaks without a scratch when they're within arms reach...

BUT....

it all grows on you well and upon accepting you are playing a slightly off version of Borderlands, you can't deny that the mission/loot formula shines as bright as its big brother counterparts... as you said... fantastic game to have on the go. Makes me have new respect for the game that it can be rough around the edges gameplay wise and still be as wonderfully addicting as it is.

#33 Edited by svaubel (2673 posts) -

Surprised there is a thread even comparing the two.

3DS by a mile.

Yea, it's a weird thing. Seeing how flawed the game is yet still enjoying it. It's kind of a recurring theme with Vita ports lol.

I wouldn't be too excited for Persona because you're getting a slightly altered Etrian Odyssey.

#37 Edited by yokofox33 (30488 posts) -

Tough one. I think the Vita has more games I'm interested in, but the 3DS has Persona Q. So yeah, 3DS just for Persona Q.

#38 Posted by Heirren (19348 posts) -

Sony needs to fire the person in charge at the vita department. If most people outside of Japan understood the Japanese language, the Vita would be selling as good if not better(maybe lol) than 3ds.

Okay, most people I see are expecting a Persona 3/4 type of experience and that's not what it is.

#41 Posted by Litchie (16776 posts) -

Both look pretty weak, but 3DS has Smash and Theatrhythm, so 3DS wins.

#42 Posted by TrappedInABox91 (1151 posts) -

3DS always win against that poorly supported weeaboo device.

#43 Posted by 22Toothpicks (11404 posts) -

Persona, SSB, Pokemon...yeah, 3DS by a landslide.

Im buying it mainly cause I can use the P3 cast again.Combat has never been a selling point of the persona series to me. Its mainly cast and story.

Pretty much this

And I don't even have a 3DS

#46 Posted by ivo_ree (121 posts) -

3DS, because it has Pokémon, Smash bros and if the VITA doesn't manage to stock up in time.

@TrappedInABox91 said:

They both house the same types of Japanese games so, the 3DS would be weeaboo as well. Your post is dumb. Still boggles my mind how many people misuse that word though.

#48 Posted by ActicEdge (24492 posts) -

They are both friggin terrible. I'll take 3DS just because the games are higher production value but the line ups are weak. Honestly, we just need one handheld on the market. 2 just segments all the damn games. If you put both those line ups together it would be pretty decent.

#49 Edited by KBFloYd (15044 posts) -

persona q,fantasy life, smash bros, pokemon and sonic vs what??? shingarompi.....wathcacallaita

i cant even read those vita games names.

#50 Posted by santoron (8361 posts) -

Probably 3DS, or tie.

Vita has several titles on that list I'm interested in or know I'm buying, but none of them appeal to me as much as the Persona Etrian Odyssey like game. IDC about remade pokemon games and see no appeal to Smash on a handheld.
