I dont understand a lot of what the guy in the first article is saying.
First off, movie reviewers do criticize movies based on their length. If the movie wraps up too quickly or stretches out an idea into more film than it should then reviewers mention it.
second, I believe the perfect score system is useful in the industry, especially under gs's new system. Games are no longer perfect, but "prime". For a game to get a 10 they have to be one of those truly special games, that much better than the greatest games of our time
the number system is a great way of getting a quick understanding of the game and if it's worth playing. And that's the point of a review: it is supposed to do the legwork for you in choosing what games to get because choosing yourself is very difficult because you can't devote all your time to understanding everything in the video game industry. If you are a hardcore gamer you maybe dont need the numbers but might put more importance on the written review, but a lot of people would rather just have the number. The number also makes it really clear to the reader how the reviewer feels about the game. Previews are notorious for over-complimenting games, but if the game gets a low score in a review it's like reality just hit it over the head with a shovel
