Edit: Looks like the big leak video is dead: I will try to find another link for it

I didn't see a thread on it so locked if old.

I wanted to hear thoughts on the newest leak. This game will likely be one of the biggest games this year so lets get some commotion about it.

The AI looks pretty poor but then again it is the starter zone.

Edit x2: Just so people know this isn't an official Sony/Bungie/Activision video. That stuff was edited in. The player is pretty terrible.

Edit 3 or 4(idk):

Huge update on the leaked gameplay

There's a lot of confusion here, and we haven't done the best job ever of explaining the game or its structure.

I'm Luke, and I'm one of the lead designers on Destiny.

First, Destiny is structured into Activities.

We've attempted to build a suite of activities that can suit a variety of moods (I want something challenging! I want to chill out with my friends! I want to see where the story goes next! I want to shoot other players!, I want the game to be a cruel dominatrix! et cetera)

These activities come in a bunch of flavors:

  • Story missions - soloable activities (you can still play them in groups of up to 3!), often with ties to the main story arc of Destiny (the campaign). These activities appear at various Levels (numerical, relative to the player) and choosing a higher level (relative to you) means you're opting in for some additional challenge.
  • Strikes - 3 player activities, with bosses and loot at the end. Their goal is a highly replayable activity that will - at higher levels - lead you into the loot game.
  • Explore - cruise around the surface of a planet in Fireteams of up to 3, taking odd jobs and tasks for the City. You can find minerals and resources out in the world that you'll have some use for as you find weapons in Destiny that you want to stick with. This is a lower intensity activity
  • Raids - 6 player, cooperative required, communication required gameplay. High challenge. We haven't talked much about this yet and I'm not going start that conversation here on NeoGAF
  • Multiplayer This is for the "shoot other players" mood.

Now, the second part is how the world has been built.

We've structured Destiny's world to have places where you will probably intersect with other players, and places where you won't. We're not going to have players drop into the climax of a mission, but the common landing zones for a given planet? That seems like a great place to see other players running amok in the world.

EDIT: Regardless of what activity you're playing (PVP aside), you'll see players on their own activities, i.e., players beginning a Strike might see a guy collecting Relic Iron on Mars, and a Public Event begins and suddenly everyone is distracted to take down a key Cabal target for a chance at powerful gear and materials to upgrade your best weapons and armor.

A bunch of folks are playing the Alpha now and we're already seeing all kinds of opportunities for places to improve Destiny. I have no doubt that in the Public Beta, we will learn even more from your feedback and experiences.

I'm not going to get into any of the recurring activities or gearing or class stuff today, but I imagine we'll start to try and explain stuff more soon.

10 seconds in and a 20ft drop and no lose of health? This is going well.

Graphics look pretty bad.

#4 Posted by Effec_Tor (228 posts) -

Was expecting a lot more for a 500 million dollar game.

Then again.. its still alpha..

#5 Posted by clyde46 (44066 posts) -

Graphics look bland, good god someone turn down the bloom. The AI is as dumb as rocks. It looks like Halo crossed with COD. I am dissapoint Bungie, I am dissapoint.

#6 Posted by pelvist (4578 posts) -

Looks about as fun as Firefall.

#7 Posted by Shewgenja (8345 posts) -

Graphics are always the last thing to get enhanced because developers need to get the game engine running correctly before they know how much resources they have to throw at graphics. I'm not concerned that it looks rough around the edges, the gameplay seems a bit meh'ish, though. I am sincerely hoping that it's just because it's starter level stuff and that there's a long grind in this game.

It looks pretty bad right now. I expect it to look and play like Halo with slightly better visuals and framerate. So far...yep, that's about it.

Looks good for alpha. Hope the AI improves.

You guys are being way too critical about alpha footage.

looks like halo...fuck halo im tried of that shit

For a game that is set to release in September(?) its not acceptable.

It's dumb, like moving into a home where only the frame is built, and complaining about getting rained on. It's dumb, like trying to drive a car before the power steering is implemented.

You are absolutely right. The game is going to be in a near-final state at this point if they hope to release it in only a few months. The E3 build is going to be quite telling.

Looks boring. Visuals and sound design are nice but the gameplay looks a little dull to me

Holy apologist Batman. The game is about 4 months from release, we see games going gold with around a month or so to go, that leaves around 3 months more dev time. You really think that Bungie are going to somehow magically pull something out of their ass to make this Halo/COD bastard of a game interesting? And in less than 3 months might I add.

In regards to your analogies, you know dam well you won't move into a house without a roof but you would dam sure complain if said frame was held together with sticky tape and bubble gum.

I think a lot of what's going on here is sour grapes. Hermits are mad they're getting the game (if at all) extra late, and lemmings are mad they've lost exclusive rights to Bungie games.

Nothing new here...

No comeback so you resort to fanboy comments...... lame.

Don't understand the hate, the graphics were never an attraction of the game, at e3 last year the visuals were like last gen peak at best. Gameplay looks fun though but please fix that burst animation on the assault rifle, way too saturated.

#21 Posted by StrongBlackVine (8418 posts) -

I'm not going to watch it. I will wait until E3 for Bungie to show some proper footage and then try the beta myself. Any way I loved Borderlands 1/2 and I expect Destiny to better. Day One purchase and still my most anticipated and likely most played game of 2014.

Who gives a damn if you don't like it? I won't speculate on any ulterior motives for people to bash the game, but people who do think it will be a good certainly don't need to justify it to you or any one else on here.

Looks extremely boring in those videos, for me it all depends on the locales that take place in the game, I love sci fi so full open worlds in the vain of Mass Effect would be enough for me to buy it.

What's totally lame is using the standard netboy lingo like "apologist" and "holy _____ batman". Oh, and also the boring role of the hipster complainer... agree with the most negative (and popular) comments to fit right in with other poster brahs. Lameness. *yawn*

Watch Dogs is over so this will be the new game to hate. When I don't like a game I generally just ignore it.

Yeah, what's going on here is obvious... we all knew what was expected from this game since E3 last year. Haters with a case of sour grapes use any lame excuse to dismiss the game in the name of their fanboy shortcomings.

If they don't like the game for what it is, that's fine. Drumming up knit picks with an unfinished product while tearing it down is fanboy politics 101. If this game was exclusive to one system it would be receiving tons of praise.

Looks about as boring as any other FPS. I don't like how the camera randomly switches to third person. Pick a perspective and stick with it, preferably third person.

If I have to pick from COD,BF, and this, then I'm going with destiny. For the most part I have always liked the games bungie have made, and the online in this intrigues me.

Looks like some cross between halo and Borderland 2 which was boring and repetitive.

#32 Posted by gamefan67 (9853 posts) -

looks incredibly dull, like borderlands sans the humour.

It is beg-worthy for us PC gamers. Definitely.

500 million dollars towards the series..not one game

Cant say i am that excited after been watching that but who knows..maybe more fun play yourself in the beta that is comming soon

That voice over better be placeholder, just horrible.

Looks like halo meets borderlands. AI looks same as Halo but maybe worse. Action is just so boring it hurts.

It feels like somebody took my heart, and dropped it into a bucket of boiling tears. And, at the same time, somebody else is hitting my soul in the crotch with a frozen sledgehammer. And then, a third guy walks in and starts punching me in the grief bone. And I am crying, and nobody can hear me. Because I am terribly, terribly, terribly alone.

#40 Posted by EducatingU_PCMR (538 posts) -

Shitty music, shitty AI, boring gameplay.

Flop, but the game will sell millions thanks to Activi$ion "efforts" and the Bungie name. Same as Watch Doge.

#41 Posted by UnbiasedPoster (685 posts) -

These FPS/RPG hybrids do nothing for me. They'll really need to win me over with the online multiplayer for me to give a shit about this game.

#42 Posted by gfxpipeline (68 posts) -

An absolute turd of a game.

Those early reports from people who played it trashing the game make it obvious why they did so from this footage.

Well, Halo's AI was great, so that's... good?

It's hard to preview a game like this. Borderlands doesn't look good in previews, either, but it's a lot of fun to play.

#44 Posted by handssss (1800 posts) -

i want to see pvp in action, tbh. Bungie does stories and campaigns well, but its the MP that puts people vs people that I really wanna see.

it looks like a boring version of borderlands which is a real bummer because borderlands is already boring.

It looks a bit, souless maybe?

#49 Posted by Cloud_imperium (2271 posts) -

Looks like an average F2P game at best .

This game will be hindered greatly without Marty O'Donnel.
