'Untitled Goose Game' wins Game of the Year at DICE. I'm honking serious about this

Out of the 23 categories at the awards, Control won the most with four wins, while Untitled Goose Game won three and Kojima’s Death Stranding was honoured with two.

What a shit award show.

I'm fine with it. Unexpected win but it is a fun and well designed game.

Again, a lot (but not all) of this kind of awards stuff comes down to who have heard of what. Other nominees were just games; UGG was an internet meme. That gives it an advantage right off the bat.

Mario Kart Tour(mobile) has me the most confused....

Mario Kart Tour was the winner that make me fully realize what an absolute joke those awards are.

I enjoyed Goosey game and all, but it's not as good as Baba is You. As someone already said, it gets by on it's meme-ness.

I can forgive them for giving the award to Untitled Goose Game, since it's funny. That the game would be the best game this year, though? Yeah, no. That's just bizarre. Anyone who actually play games would agree.

But having Mario Kart Tour as the winner of.. anything? If they had any sort of credibility before, it's officially wiped from the face of the earth.

They also nominated Death Stranding for many things. I'm pretty sure they don't play videogames.

Woot it deserves it. It’s such a fun game.

People are going to be pissed that their AAA game of choice didn't win, but they can't see the forest for the trees in this context; if a game like this can win (and justifiably win, too), it opens all kinds of doors for new game development.

Untitled Goose Game is from a small developer and publisher and, quite frankly, is near perfect; it accomplishes what it sets out to do, is fun and simple, flawlessly executed, and there is little to nothing wrong with it.

The only thing setting Untitled Goose Game apart from a AAA game is a few hundred million dollars in marketing, a few tens of millions of dollars in cut scenes, and some explosions. In terms of objective quality of gameplay, it is as good as anything EA, Ubisoft, 2K, and so on can release.

Yes I'm serious.

GOTY over Disco Elysium seems very weird, I haven't played it though, is it worth picking up would anyone say?

I havent played it yet but it looks really fun and unique regardless of meme status. Not sure if itd be my pick of the year but I like seeing more niche stuff get recognition.

I'm still baffled over Mario Kart Tour...

Last year so average an indie game late into the scene able to grab headlines.

I really enjoyed Untitled Goose Game, but I think Disco Elysium is the real GOTY.

Untitled Goose Game must be the Parasite of 2020. I think no one thought that Untitled Goose Game will win DICE's Game of the Year award as no one thought that Parasite, a South Korean film, will be the first foreign-language film to win Best Picture of the Year in this year's Academy Awards.
