It sold as well as it could have on the Wii U's install base, what did you expect? For it to sell a million or something?

Plus Mario games have long legs, this will go on to sell fairly well in the end. Like all other Nintendo haters, you just jumped the gun.

#4 Posted by Kaze_no_Mirai (11122 posts) -

Yeah considering the install base the Wii U has, it's not really bad.

Mario is dead confirmed

New Super Mario Bros U sold 200,000

Mario 3D World sold half that amount.

How can that be?

100K sounds pretty good, considering the wii u's install base and that it's only one country.

I know there are some people trying to put a positive spin on this but, both debuts for FF and Mario are very poor.

Did BF4 sell a million yet on the PS4/x1? Worldwide?

#13 Posted by treedoor (7648 posts) -

That's what Nintendo gets for catering exclusively to the Wii U audience.

Should have been multiplat

Then everything should have been multiplat.

I think Nintendo should think about going multiplatform, or else their future doesn't look very bright

Japan, probably saving money for their Have My Baby game.

Nintendo is dead and no fresh coat of paint on Mario will change that.

#19 Posted by TwistedShade (3151 posts) -

Shame because it really is an amazing game. Been playing it's 4 player co-op and it's fun as hell, also quite a lot harder than I expected.

Yes because those that actually owned a Nes should want to see Mario be remade for the last 30 years and not want something more. I would be the first to scream from the rooftops if Nintendo had a great new IP. Unfortunately they don't. Can you imagine Disney putting out a different Mickey Movie every 5-7 years instead of new material like Toy Story, Cars, Wall E, or Incredibles?

Some of us expect more of Nintendo you don't.

Because there's been no new Nintendo IPs since the NES. Right.

There are plenty of IP's already that people are waiting for, like F-Zero, Starfox, Earthbound, etc. If there's anything Nintendo has an abundance of, it's IP's.

Meh......mario again.lol

Gamers have bored all the same nintendo games.WiiU sucks.

#25 Edited by pc-ps360 (3458 posts) -

man i love nintendo and love nintendo games. but nintendo ****ed up big time. they could have really gained alot of ground this gen. but hte problem is they lack games. true there is alot of great game coming for it but the problem is that there are no multiplates.

i am not complaining i am catching up on wii games that i hav misssed waiting for their new nintendo game to release. i already 5 stared mario 3d world.

but nintendo has weird tactics it is too late to say 2013 was a drought they effd up. but why are their no games on the eshop. why dont nintendo release all there nes, snes, sega genesis, neogeo, n64 and gamecube game on the eshop. instead they release 1 old nes game every week. they should release the whole bunch at one time.

also there is a reason why games are being delayed like donkey kon, it is because they have nothing for 2014 exceot for what they announced and i bet some will be delayed also. they hav a great lineup but no 3rd party. they should hav used this opportunity to release bayonetta, donkey kong and mario kart along with mario3d world in order to gain ground. but with 3d world only i dont think people will be interested.

also i love 3d world it is an amazing coop game but it is not a full 3d mario adventure. it is an amazing arcady coop mario game and people where hoping for a ful fledged mario 3d adventure game.

i really hope nintendo start releasing more games, also the very few virtua console game are pretty expensive, thye should be a dollar max each.

Good now maybe Nintendo will start creating new IPs and learn that nothing lasts forever. It will be a good lesson for nostalgic sheep.

All the "Nintendo is dead" doom and gloom spreaders seem t have forgotten that Nintendo is the only one profitable.

Tell that to the legions of James Bond fans after twenty something movies. I'm sorry, but if film franchises like Bond can last long, why can't game franchises?

Oh and I'm tired of the "sheep being nostalgic for supporting their favorite franchise" argument, as that thread pointed out, it is filled with irony at it's finest.

@Crossel777: Sony wishes that they had a franchise that will last forever.

Wii U Top 15 Debuts:

1) New Super Mario Bros. U - 170,563

2) Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - 110,149

3) Super Mario 3D World - 106,967

4) Pikmin 3 - 102,188

5) Wii Party U - 79,715

6) Nintendo Land - 78,461

7) Dragon Quest X Online - 36,454

8) The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD - 31,154

9) New Super Luigi U - 27,312

10) Game & Wario - 23,995

11) LEGO City Undercover - 18,077

12) Taiko no Tatsujin: Wii U Version - 17,518

13) ZombiU - 11,226

14) Resident Evil: Revelations - 8,179

15) The Wonderful 101 - 6,663

Pikmin 3's number is based off of two days of sales.

Super Mario 3D World is based off of four days of sales.

That means Pikmin 3 actually sold better than Super Mario 3D World. LOL

So much for the savior.

B-bu-bu-but Mario and bundle in Japan will help!

#31 Edited by Boddicker (2522 posts) -

I actually kind of want to play this Mario.

Maybe after I get established and have bought my PS4 I'll pick up a Wii-U by early 2015. Hopefully there'll be another priced drop lulz

Sheep damage control is the best damage control. Mario should have moved units. "Bu-bu-bu-but it has a small install base!" is a weak excuse for a main Mario game.

#37 Posted by Speak_Low (955 posts) -

The Wii U install base is bigger these days than it was when Pikmin 3 came out.

The fact that the daily average of Super Mario 3D World is less than Pikmin 3 is sad and no excuses can save this. It should be much higher than 106,967

#38 Posted by PrincessGomez92 (3486 posts) -

Seems fine, and this is only one country.

Is it me or there is a rise on alt accounts and newcomers lately?

#40 Edited by Pikminmaniac (8774 posts) -

I hope it sells well in the end. After playing the game for over 17 hours, I've gotten to the point where I can confidently say that this game does everything necessary to make it the best 3D platformer ever created. They managed to trump Super Mario Galaxy 2 with a better focus on quality and precise level design that was somewhat lacking in the Galaxy games as crazy and creative as they were.

Then why did Sunshine sell nearly 300k on a similar install base? I've seen this ridiculous excuse way too many times today. A 100k opening for a Mario game is pretty sad no matter what excuse people try to come up with.

It's not surprising that Pikmin sold better than 3d Mario in a country where handhelds dominate. It's not on the 3ds. The biggest competitor the Wii U has in my opinion. Why buy a Wii U and 3d world if you can buy a 3ds and something similar on it?

yup and all the sony fanboys are crying for crash bandicoot

and xboners are gushing over killer instinct..lol

#43 Edited by AznbkdX (3120 posts) -

To put some positivity to this... the install base is low and 3D Mario never really sold as well as 2D Mario software. Hardware sale increases has also been historically low on all 3D Mario games when it comes to Japan, and this number keeps in line with the Galaxies. I do know SM64 sold more hardware, but I consider the first 3D Mario kind of an outlier. Sunshine I'm not totally sure about in this regard.

It's a bummer that this didn't sell well though. The WiiU might be undesirable to some consumers, but the existing ones should have jumped on that shit as soon as it dropped. I mean wtf Japan?

There are definitely no excuses and the sheep aren't even good at damage control. It would be better if they just didn't say anything and let the numbers speak for themselves:

3D Mario Week One Sales:

1) Super Mario Galaxy 2 - 337,569 (1,032,853 total)
2) Super Mario 3D Land - 344,698 (1,861,023 total)
3) Super Mario Sunshine - 280,610 (789,989 total)
4) Super Mario Galaxy - 256,341 (1,025,664 total)
5) Super Mario 64* - 162,113 (1,639,914 total)
6) Super Mario 64 DS* - 120,062 (1,231,535 total)
7) Super Mario 3D World - 106,967

Super Mario 64 (and the DS version) sold better and they were launch games.

There is no excuse for this new Mario to sell so low, especially when holidays is supposed to normally have some of the highest hardware and software sales for Nintendo.

"One game could change everything."

LOL, not this game!

Go third party Nintendo for f* sake. You suck at making hardware, so don't do it. You are amazing at making games, make more of them.

#46 Edited by AznbkdX (3120 posts) -

@Sushiglutton: I have this nagging feeling that they actually aren't half bad at making hardware, but they just love to cram gimmicks into them for whatever reason. It must be a whole lot of optimism but I swear they could get it right if they stop with some of the stupid shit. I mean they probably got a ton of professional designers and engineers just like Sony and Microsoft, but its just this philosophy of being innovative and different that hampers some of their expertise (while admittedly increasing their creativity in some areas).

I'm okay with some innovation like Miiverse, but they need to get back to basics on all fronts of their hardware.

Someone over at Nintendo HQ has to be saying 'this game Would sell 20 million on PlayStation/Xbox..'

And it would..join the master race Nintendo

What, and this would fare any better on any other console? Considering Final Fantasy outsold it, I doubt it.

Nintendo fans are the lulziest. So attached to a piece of bad hardware.

Nuws flash: if Nintendo was third party, you could play their games on a superior system with !such better support for games and nintendo would thrive..

'Oh noes I need gimmicky weak hardware to play the Zelda's n marioez'

Superior system =/= better games.
