N64 was a great console. I remember when Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time came out. There was nothing like it. Blew all of our young little minds away. I also remember pwning people in Goldeneye and WWF No Mercy (best wrestling game of all time). Good times with Mario Party too. And can't forget Smash Bros. The N64 was a great "party" console to play with friends. P.S. I loved the controller.

I remember getting some "lame" stuff for Christmas. Clothes and such. No kid wants that. I was really hoping I would get a console, and my mom had actually ordered one from the store.

The delivery was a day late, so on Christmas Eve(when we open the packages), the N64 wasn't there. So, the next day, early in the morning, my mom headed over to the store to get the N64, which by then had arrived. She put it under tree before me and my brothers came down. She told us Santa, apparently, forgot one of the main gifts. We unwrapped it, and it was a N64 Pokemon edition with Pokemon Stadium. This was the bees knees, because me and my brothers loved pokemon.

Good shit.

Buying Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time on the Wii Virtual Console several years ago, and that was my first time playing Ocarina of Time. They hold up incredibly well today, and are still a joy to play. I did get to play some N64 games with family many years, like Goldeneye 007, Perfect Dark, and Donkey Kong 64. Good times.

The N64 was the multiplayer machine when I was a kid. Goldeneye, Wrestlemania 2000, WWF No Mercy, Bomberman, Killer Instinct Gold, Crusin USA, and San Fransisco Rush. I use to go to my cousin's house on the weekend and he'd have loads of people over to play nonstop.

Where to begin:

-Finding Yoshi on Peach's Castle

-When you first step onto Hyrule Field

-Clocktown

-Beating Star Fox 64 so many times just to see all the different paths

-Donkey Kong 64 (All of it)

-Rainbow Road on MK64

Even though OoT and Goldeneye were my most played games, I'll never forget opening up the N64 for Christmas; popping in Super Mario 64 and being amazed at the first true 3D game I ever played.

Jumping through the first star painting portal, watching it ripple like I just jumped in the water myself. It blew my mind.

Missing out on the N64 is one of my biggest gaming regrets. It's not that I didn't want it, I just wasn't as big of a gamer then as I am now.

But man, I loved playing that thing. Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, and Mario Party 2. Aw yis.

Oh man. My favorite memory is probably saving up all week for the weekend. We'd save all our money for this gumball machine. They would put clear balls in there with a prize. Like free pizza or a 12 pack of pop. We'd throw all our money in the machine, walk out with a large pizza, 12 pack of pop, and a sack full of gumballs. Then we'd go to my cousins place and play MK 64 all weekend long. Also the first time my cousin tried to blow me up with his bomb form but I had starman on and I ate him instead. It was the first time I ever seen someone ragequit.

Two main memories stick out with the N64 for me:

For the longest time I couldn't decide if I wanted a N64 or PS1 to add to my PC/Saturn combo. Then one day at Toys 'R Us, I saw the Rogue Squadron demo, and with it, the new rumble pack. After playing it for about 15 minutes, I knew without a doubt which console I wanted. I'm a huge Star Wars fan, so being able to fly around with the Millennium Falcon and feel the controller shake every time I crashed was like a dream come true.

My best memory with the N64 though is playing Super Smash with my brother (we played it almost for the entire day after we got it), and then playing the countless matches against him and my cousins whenever we went to their house. I always won those. :)

Today, I think the N64's library has aged terribly, but in terms of overall enjoyment for its time, it's probably my second favorite console of all time. Overall, these are/were my favorite N64 games: Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Rogue Squadron, Super Smash Bros., Shadows of the Empire, WWF Attitude, WWF No Mercy, Pokemon Stadium 1 & 2, Pokemon Snap, Episode I: Racer, Mario 64, Duke Nukem (for the 4 player versus mode), and Perfect Dark.

Goldeneye on one hit kill mode (don't remember what it's called) and SM64.

SM64 was just plain gorgeous and the controls were incredibly responsive.

I think i was at the right age when it came out as a young teenager. Probably why I have such nostalgic memories, best time in gaming. I can't quite remember being as excited about any gaming in years. None of it really feels special now. I probably just got older.

The current gen in gaming has been the lowest point. It's the definition of 'no fucks were given'.

If I had a 60Hz working version of the N64, I'd still have it plugged in now I think. But mine doesn't work and I only have the UK 50Hz version.

Lol Nintendo, they were still pissing around with 50Hz last gen with the Wii when everyone else moved on to 60Hz completely a long time ago. Mario 25th Anniversary Edition wasn't so much a lazy slap in the face to the fans, but a golden fucking shower. What a joke. Nintendo just don't get it, they can't afford to have this attitude.

Ah man, the first time we hooked Goldeneye up to a proper HiFi and turned the Bass up. Felt the vibration through in the floor. Beat the shit out of controller rumble.

The N64 was the best party machine ever! Many of my greatest gaming memories were from playing the many N64 multiplayer classics like GoldenEye 007, Mario Kart 64, Mario Party, No Mercy, etc. with friends. Plus, the N64 gave me the two most jaw dropping moments that I've ever had in gaming which were the first time I played the revoluationary games, Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time.

I was getting the ass of gaming around the N64 days. Duke Nukem sticks to mind as one I played on it.

I pissed around on other systems after that but is was the first Xbox that made me stand up and really want to game again.

Despite having aged terribly, Super Mario 64 was a revolution (in my opinion, even more so than Ocarina of Time). It blew me away (I was only really experienced with 2D games and Doom II up until that point) and forever changed my view of gaming (I'm sure it's safe to say it was the day I became a "gamer").

Beyond that, pretty much everything I played on it was pure gold (although I never did own one until the late 2000's). My fondest memories are of Super Smash Bros. and the late nights staying up at a friend's place just playing on and on and on. Then Goldeneye/Perfect Dark came out and turned my friend group into a bunch of obsessive weirdos. All we did was play Facility, with Dark Sims and camp the bathroom. Epic fun at the time, but now I prefer the fuller experience of the entire game.

N64 was head and shoulders above the PS1 in terms of game quality and multiplayer fun.

PS1........being on CD..........had so many shovelware games.

Sure it had some classics, but N64 brings back memories of many long nights playing Wrestlemania 2000, 007, Super Mario 64, Banjo, and countless other games.

I think im going to buy another Wii just to play them again lol

I do remember that the system lacked games, but the ones it had were worth it. I was constantly defending it to my friends, who were mostly playstation gamers, but man Ocarina changed that. Everyone had to play that game. For me though, the best games were Goldeneye and Majora's Mask.

At the time, I was also a PC gamer so it's not like I was hungry for software too. Also for all the bulk that the PS1 had I didn't see much on that console that excited me.

I remember many weekends with friends playing 4-player Super Smash Bros, but there were usually more than four of us, so we'd always be saying "next game", and there was usually a great deal of weed involved. Mario Kart 64 was also a popular one. I remember stores had wait lists when it released but nobody would come pick them up so I just walked into one like "will you sell one to me" and they did, same thing worked for the Wii even though that was also supposed to be on wait lists. Anyhow, first games were like Mario 64, Pilot Wings, Wave Race. Star Wars Shadow of the Empire was cool at first but lost its charm with time, but Rogue Squadron was much better. Mario Kart and Star Fox and Ocarina of Time came later. GoldenEye was dope. Turok was pretty cool. Conker's was fun, though I only played the multiplayer with friends and never the SP game. Never did get to play Majora's Mask or Perfect Dark. NFL Blitz and Tetrisphere were also really good. Great deal of love for that system.

Mario 64, Wave Race 64, Goldeneye... agreed. PS1 was the better console in the end though.

I don't think so. I just got my 64 back after having it on "lend" for almost 15 years or so. It is absolutely INCREDIBLE how well the greats on the console hold up. I started buying into the "goldeneye plays like crap" saying. Truth is that it doesn't. It took me a minute to gather the controls again, but once I did I was doing just fine. Same goes for Turok 2. Wave Race is classic. Mario 64? Holy fckng cow that game is just otherworldly unbelievable.

What made the launch so amazing was that it made everything new again. People like myself that had that sense of wonder with the nes got it again with the n64. I do like playstation, but it just doesn't measure up. I know there are 100s of games more, but in retrospect most of the ones I'd ever really want to go back and play are rpgs..................except Twisted Metal 1 and 2; best games on the console.

The biggest "wow" moment in my gaming life was playing Mario 64 for the 1st time at Blockbuster. Nothing before or after even compares. I didn't own a Nintendo 64 the 1st time around due to my parents financial standing. But now that I'm a "collector" I can appreciate the N64 library without "hating." There has not been as big of a generation jump since then.
