Prove me wrong.
How can we prove that when the MGSV isn't out yet? I believe Dishonored is a better stealth game than TLOU.
@soapandbubbles: no need to, I would definitely pick TLoU, although MGS is a great game series. Both offer awesome, intense gameplay and great story telling. It's a shame more games aren't like TLoU and MGS.
If you see Dishonored for cheap you should pick it up. It's a good stealth game with a good story. If you have a capable PC it's $7 on green man gaming right now.
No one beats Snake at stealth. TLOU has okay stealth but it's clunky and hampered by the uncharted stealth control elements. The sticking to walls, the terrible line of sight by the enemies. Plus Snake has much cooler stealth items at his disposal. Much more fun to mess with the soldiers.
And the MGS soldiers are much smarter than any of the AI in TLOU.
TLOU has stealth? I wouldn't know, the only thing people talk about in that game is the story and that's it, makes it seem like it has no gameplay at all
MGS at least never pretends it's not a video game. Even if at times it also wants to be an epic movie.
I disagree . TLOU is a decent game but when it comes to Stealth it doesn't hold a candle in front of both Splinter Cell and MGS . Both are primarily stealth action games with a lot more stealth features . TLOU is also linear with a lot less freedom , while MGS V will have sandbox levels (at least it looks like that . We'll have to wait and see when it comes out)
This thread will pass 100+ posts filled with incessant babbling about how TLOU is a movie.
Btw MGS5 isn't out yet but if Ground Zeroes is anything to go by, I highly doubt TLOU has better stealth.

The uncharted stealth?
IMO...TLOU plays better as a stealth game than MGSV.
take downs in MGSV seem cheap, quick and unsatisfying..you also cant use object like in TLOU to attract your enemies (bricks, bottles, etc) using the chokehold and shiv in TLOU is so satisfying and just more rewarding, same goes with the animations when doing them. ALSO there is NO hand to hand combat (punch or kick) for those that wish to do so compared to TLOU.
@intotheminx: I don't really see first person and stealth mixing that well..maybe that's just because Thief was so bad though.
Don't let that discourage you. The reviews for the game speak for themselves. Also, you can play through the game without killing anyone. Not too many games have that option anymore. You can either kick ass or save lives and the worlds outcome will change from it.

Uncharted had one or two stealth sections. They were awful.
currently, the Last of Us is the greatest stealth game. However, ground zeroes gameplay stealth were pretty epic, so we'll just have to see what happens with mgs5.

No...it's not even close.

its satisfying as a stealth game, from the take down animations, movement, use of objects/weapons, etc. just because you dont have an arsenal of weapons to silently take them down doesn't make it a poor stealth game.
I'd love to, but MGS5 isn't out yet.
A strong point that, oddly enough, hasn't been addressed yet. smh
Well..Ground Zeroes is technically a part of MGS5 so the game is out. Just not the rest of the game has been released yet.

MGSV ground zeroes is out
I've only played MGS 1 and 2, and didn't think either was particularly good. TLOU, on the other hand, was fantastic, so I wouldn't be surprised at all if TLOU is better than MGS 5.

Great, paying $20-$30 for a small part of a game.
I am proud to say that I have never played a MGS game, but TLOU is a god damned movie. Boring as hell. The AI is stupid to the point of annoyance. If that's considered "stealth action", then I am glad I stopped playing it.
You played MGS V?
And lol TLOU a stealth game
yes, ground zeroes is a part of MGSV is already out..and yes the last of us uses stealth and can be played like that.

By your own admission you only played a half hour of the game. I mean you didn't even get to any of the actual stealth or action parts
The Last Of Us is a survival game.
Metal Gear Solid is a Patient game.
The difference being that TLOU doesn't give you many options. Infact most of the time there are no meaningfull choices.
The fun in TLOU is choosing what to do when your resources are limited.
The fun in MGS is choosing what to do when your options are almost limitless.
@Bread_or_Decide
Thats not a choice.... Thats an assessment.
Thats what happens when you limit resources, they also limit the way you play and you're left without meaningfull choices.
If you're low on Shivs, then not using is one to kill a clicker in a room full of clickers is not a choice, technically it is but choosing to use the shive on a clicker does nothing. They arent even particularly engaging to kill in stealth or combat. Play it on The Hardest Difficulty, there are no choices.

There you go
gameplay won't change lol, its the same game...video's confirm this. besides the extra weapons, gadgets..etc. the core gameplay is the SAME!

True. It's artificially created. But survival horror games work best when you're limited. Being a one man commando removes all the element of fear. But TLOU world is one of limited means to begin with. So while the limited choices may not be meaningful it is true to the world they created in the game. The whole point is to survive. A very different goal than the one you have when playing MGS game. Where your goal is espionage and infiltration.
The Last of Us barely has stealth in it. Seemed like after the first quarter of the game it became absolutely obsessed with tossing you headfirst into firefights or having hordes of infected rushing you from all over.
Actually was my biggest gripe with the game as it seemed the option of stealth was taken away from you throughout most of the game. Really hope they axe most of the stupid action set pieces with the sequel...
The Last of Us is terrific, but if Ground Zeroes is any inidcation than The Phantom Pain will easily clown any of these binary stealth/action games like The Last of Us.
The Phantom Pain looks to provide an actual sandbox gameplay system with a variety of options and crazy opportunities at your disposal, versus you could do this guns blazing/you could do this sneaky. The Phantom Pain flat out looks like to be more of a dynamic game in comparison to what The Last of Us is, and that to me is more rewarding in a video game than "we told a story that is basically The Road meets Children of Men, done not as well as either of those 2 things."
not sure about MGSV because I have never played it but is at least much better than all the prior games. The gameplay in MGS games have never been particularly good to begin with. MGS games have always been more about the story and setting and atmosphere, etc. but not the gameplay. Many say that MGS series has some of the best boss fights? Bullshit. The setting for the fight might be epic but what you do is pretty menial and often monotonous and tedious if you're playing on higher difficulties without knowing their weaknesses.
