AMD CPU Phenom II X4 940

Nvidia GPU GeForce GTX 660

AMD GPU Radeon HD 7870

RAM 6GB

OS 64-bit Windows 7 or 64-bit Windows 8 (8.1)

DirectX 11

HDD Space 40 GB

Recommended System Requirements

Seems like a high minimum, especially on the CPU end of things. Just another reminder that I'll have to upgrade in a couple years lol.

It's a 4 year old CPU.

Still, i fully expect the 2500K to do above 30fps VHQ in benchmarks. These req. are always wrong about something

Awesome! I hope I can get it to ultra. I'm falling under the recommended category (apart from the GPU which is just a tad bit behind; 280x).

lol console peasants in the comments.

Some are still delusional enough to think console run at max

It'll be a mix of medium and high for The Witcher 3. And that's not counting if it's not 900p-720p

Going to look amazing on my system now with the new GPU. May have a bit of trouble with my CPU. Need to get the i7 going here soon.

They seem a bit high but for the graphic fidelity that everyone asks for I guess this is what's required to get it.

Higher frame rates in open world games are always a bitch to get.

Considering your rig, i recommend sticking to 30fps, as awesome has 60 is. You'll probably get high settings, or a mix of high and medium at worst.

Ditto.

30 with high settings would be great ...

Those cpu requirements are lop sided which is misleading,

i5 2500k vs Phenom 2 X4 940, that i5 is on average 40-50% faster then that 940.

The only reason why their asking for i7 and FX 8 is most likely because it can use 8 threads. Wouldn't be surprised if 3rd gen i5's perform as well as the FX 8's.

The minimum requirements are PS4 gpu equivalent.

Oh dear, I am curious how the console versions are going to come out.

requirements may be targeted for 1080p, just have to wait and see. Most of the time system requirements are overblown.

Shadow of Mordor and Dragon Age Inquisition already run with a mix of medium and high.

I fully expect that, at best, for the console versions. Sub 1080p or no equivelant of high settings isn't impossible to imagine either, though i don't expect it.

Not bad for what could potentially be the best looking open world game.

The only bottleneck I have is my graphics card, doubt I'll upgrade it before release :/

The 7870 and 660 are both stronger than what the PS4 has, and those CPUs far stronger than both consoles'. I really hope this "minimum" is for 1080p.

Welcome to devs actually trying to multithread up graphic operations through DirectX and overcome the CPU bottleneck of DirectX for graphics. Now that the last gen consoles aren't holding graphics back this is to be expected.

Draw calls in DX11 are limited. You need a powerful CPU to do a decent amount of draw calls with DirectX 11. The whole point of DX12 is to reduce this CPU bottleneck but that's still a ways off.

I think a requirement of a 4 year old CPU is fine. Sandy Bridge came out in Q1 of 2011, that's 4 years ago already.

round 4 between my laptop and the PS4 (*checks this is SW*). so far the score is 3:0 to my laptop (dragon age, mordor and BF4) though the PS4 has a couple of minor wins in each round.

im grand on ram, cpu and HDD. my 780M could be a bit suspect though. c'mon nvidia. unlock teh hidden power of geforce :P j/k.

Major problem with that assumption, they state Phenom 2 X4 940 also as a minimum as well which is no where in the same league as the i5 2500k.

That i7 2600k is still a great cpu able to outpace haswell i5's , and AMD FX 8's. heck it only trails the i7 4770k 7-8 fps at best.

GTX 770? This is why we need to take into consideration price when hermits constantly boast about graphics.

Shit the GPU alone costs $250.

You could have bought a whole console for that sometime during the holidays and the graphics would be just great.

I'm not well versed in AMD GPUs, but if the 280x isn't too far behind the 770, you should be ok with a mix of ultra and high settings.

Ofcourse, it'll depend of what max is for you. I expect NVIDIA tech like fur and physx destruction to be pretty really taxing, so don't go in thinking you can push everything to the limit.

But you'll be fine overall, if my gpu comparison is correct. Atleast high settings across the board. Definitelly better than a console version.

Well, 280x and 770 are on par (1-5 fps difference, it falls even more with mantle). Dunno why they put 290 with the 770 when a 280x is actually the same as 770.

If I can only get to Ultra, that'd be more than enough. I'm not expecting all the eye candy, CDPR's Ultra is the absolute best you can get.

lol, you get what you pay for.... but the 770 is basically a overclocked GTX 680, you can get 670's and 760 to perform on par with stock 770 with nice overclock.

you think consoles will being playing on high or very high settings? you most likely looking a slew of settings, and the vast majority will be low to medium settings.

heck even the GTX 660 is same league as PS4 gpu, 770 is on average 35-40% faster then 660 at 1080.

If that is indeed the case, then you should be ok. And you're right that ALL the eye candy probably won't be enough in your rig. Neither on mine. I'm onyl running a 760.

I may be mistaken, but recommended doesn't mean the ability to max out a game fully in all it's features. But if it's comparable with a 770, then a mix of high and ultra, for stuff like textures, lighting, then yeah.

Also, i almost recommened to test out which settings are causing the biggest impact to performance. For me, it's usually shadows, so i turn them down to high or medium.

peeps? can I max it out? I don't sweat my balls for 60fps, just 30 would be fine.

CD/Witcher 3 is in league with Nvidia gameworks using physx and hairworks so the game will be more finely tuned with nvidia gpus. So we will have to wait to see the differences between AMD and Nvidia and the drivers and patches afterward.

GTX 770? This is why we need to take into consideration price when hermits constantly boast about graphics.

Shit the GPU alone costs $250.

You could have bought a whole console for that sometime during the holidays and the graphics would be just great.

silly peasant, they wouldn't be as great... hence the cost.

Gotta love options!

It's AA mostly, and perhaps it's because of the ram I guess.
