Let me start off by saying that this is not a blog. Like, no. Although honestly, for those out there that wanna get their thoughts out, do the following:

For example: "Duke Nukem Forever Sucks"
You type down your thoughts on the game. Why it sucks. Why it's not cool. And then, after all that, you end your OP with "Do you fellas feel the same?"

Boom! Sneak Blog! You put in your thoughts on something. Fully. All the way in there, ahhhh yeahhh. But you ended with a question, which INVOKES discussion. Invokes.

So, what's up with the lack of "Wild West" games in gaming? It's cool. Whores. Poking. Rifles. Six-shooters. Hats.

What Western games have you played? Do you think we need more?

I'm playing GUN right now on my 360. I played this with a good Turkish friend of mine, years and years ago. We both loved it, because:

A: Shooting stuff and boobs.
B: Thomas Jane.

Then there's stuff like Call of Juarez. First one was rough. Second one was cool. Cartel was hot garbage. Gunslinger is absolutely brilliant, and I wish more shooters were like it. You know, fun.

Red Dead Redemption.... The dude couldn't swim.

So.... Do you fellas feel the same?

I've played GUN and RDR. They were both pretty good. I found the voice acting for some of the characters in RDR to be almost painful to listen to

I remember GUN being pretty short. I think I finished it in an afternoon

Hah, yes. GUN was pretty damn short. I mean, for an open world game. But still, I enjoyed it, and there wasn't much out there for us fellas to feel like cowboys.

And Thomas Jane.

I dont like western games. I played the original RDR and it was meh and the only reason RDR was so good was because it had that Rockstar touch.

The "run over here and do this boring mission" touch.

I'm just kidding.

Oh yea, I was a big fan of Dan since his Game Informer days. I always hoped he would end up at Giant Bomb because he fits perfectly with their kind of stupid.

Nice. I like himself. It seems what Giantbomb(Jeff) needed. Now we just need Danny O'Dwyer from Gamespot.

I get this sense that Borderlands 2 takes place in the Wild West, but with obvious influences from Mad Max, and other such suches.

The music in Borderlands 2 is beyond glorious, but my dog does the dialogue encourage vomiting. And there's not really anything special about the gameplay. I can only stomach the game long enough while playing with friends as we tend to do a lot of rooting, tooting, pointing, and shooting while we play. Emphasis on the "tooting".

Call of Juarez is supposed to be legit, but I've never played it.

Otherwise, Red Dead Redemption is the best western game I have played, and I disagree to hell and back with some of the lofty praise put on that game. Marston and the ending being excellent? Sure, not disagreeing there. The overall plot? **** no, large sections of it are pure filler, and the gameplay? It's typical open world action BS of doing the same rote missions over and over again, and mechanically RDR is a sluggish third person shooter easily outclassed by actual third person shooters. It has atmosphere for days, but all of that shit means nothing to me when the simple act of interacting with it (you know, in an interactive medium) are the weak points of that game.

Luckily Max Payne 3 (shitty pacing aside) and Grand Theft Auto 5 were a step in the right direction for Rockstar in that department. Just need the pacing to not suck balls in their games.

Played Gun in 2006 I believe and liked it a lot. Call of Juarez second was fun, but RDR is imo the Grand Ole Opry of this genre

The first Call of Juarez is still the best one, no matter what anyone says. Some of the elements were weird and crazy, but it made for a really interesting and fun experience. 2 was also good, but a little more streamlined. Wasn't a fan of gunslinger. That art style didn't do it for, but the core shooting was pretty fun.

On a side note, The Cartel was one of the biggest pieces of shit I've had the displeasure of playing.

Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is awesome. Probably my favourite FPS last year. The narration just nails the wild west atmosphere and play around common themes found in Wild West films.

It's incredibly arcadey. it takes some time for the action to pick up thanks to its unlock system. But when it gets going, it's excellent. It rewards fast reflexes, precision and abit of creativity.

Be warned. The boss fights are terrible and sometimes you feel really pinned down as the game doesnt really reward you with good movement due to how precise the AI can be, so the focus on positioning can break the pacing of the action abit.

-

+ I still remember Jamiroquai shitting on everybody's times in that Top Gear episode.
