Game is soooo fun, seriously nothin like getting chased by cops just to frak with the lights and cause a 5 car pile up. My only issue so far is the stuttering while driving, other than that having a blast with this game.
How's the melee combat?
Is it like AC or entirely different.
It's the usual press button (in this case B since I use a 360 controller for my PC) and Aiden does a take down, the animation is a lot more fluid so far than anything in Assassins Creed.
So it's like AC where you have to counter?
I'm okay with this if that's the case. GTA4 combat was horrible.
I haven't tried to straight up melee someone, just have done the typical stealth take downs or if I'm about to get caught I quickly melee them to take them out.
I'm sure the game is fun. Ubisoft will do an Assassin's Creed thingy, first game will be decent and show promise, second game will generate even more hype and consumer support, then they'll milk it over the next decade.
You know what? this game plays just fine with my variable 35-50 fps, usually averages on 40. I had to take my OC off because for whatever reason watchdogs absolutely hates it on compared to every other game I have and my card isn't even getting that hot. On all high settings and hbao+ and for the most part it runs great, gun fights are perfectly acceptable, 60 fps really has no bearing on the gameplay at all.
The moment a fucking car chase happens, oh my god the constant hitching, which is definitely not acceptable to me and I'm seeing it mentioned all over the place, so gladly I'm not the only one experiencing it but honestly I wouldn't be able to consider myself a pc gamer if my game worked as intended at release.
I hate how I can't do drive by's tho. Let's be honest Aiden is an asshole, he's no hero.

I swear i've robbed people with the descriptions takes in the homeless and donates to charity and one on an income of like $10,000. He's no vigilante, he's on his own power trip.

Are you fucking kidding me? The story is so stupid. So far Jordi is a gem tho so at least it's redeemed in some aspect with some cool supporting characters.
After all the pre-launch drama around here it was nice to finally sit down with the game for a few hours. IMO it looks great and while limited to 30fps, in my experience it never noticeably dips (PS4).
Haven't spent much time on the missions (mostly because there are so many different types of side missions I wanted to try out) but it's pretty clear the story isn't going to be the strong suit of this game. Even so, with so much to do and a great playground to do them in I'm going to get my money's worth out of the title with ease.
i run a max buffered frames of 1, with no vsync. i'm shooting my milky load at 60 fps. a little bird tells me that the gpu max buffered frames is the culprit for stutters, keep her at one.
if she's already at one then ... well, i offer my condolences.
@ladyblue: you have to be in combat to engage someone with a melee attack or if someone is trying to sneak up on you/invade you the melee option is prompt towards that person.

Try it in borderless mode with TXAA or w/e and turn off vsync (having reflections turned down also might help). I did that and went from full stutter while driving to very little.

I've been running it with Vsync off, aa on or off seems to make no difference, I'm still getting unplayable stutter.

It seems after the first mission, the intro. This shit started happening. gtx 580, i7 920 4.2 gigz, 6gb ram, windows 8.1.
Nothings overheating., even with my OC'd card it wasn't. This games so weird.
Tried borderless, getting the same shit. No matter what visual options I select.
latest WHQL nvidia drivers as well for those wondering. Recently played wolfenstein and it ran at a consistent 60 all maxed out as a point of reference.
The game is much better than the internet would lead you to believe on PS4. I'm actually impressed. 900p isn't all that bad after all Cows.

Same here. No matter what settings I choose on my GTX 760 the performance is terrible. Luckily it came free with the graphics card or I'd be pretty pissed right now.
@ReadingRainbow4: yikes. I plan on buying the PC version later on. I have a i7 3770k at 4.2, GTX 690 and 16 gigs of RAM. The reason I didn't go PC to begin with is because I have a 1440p monitor and running games near launch at that resolution is tough. I usually have to wait for the drivers to be ironed out and see how other 1440p gamers are doing. We all know Ubisofts track record with PC games.

I don't think I've ever seen my 580 go above 72c.
Regardless it shouldn't even matter if it does, cards these days have high heat ceilings.

The moment I was let loose on the street I had him steal $500 from an HIV positive man, I wish I could take my baton out and just whack people like crazy.
It's not like it really matters tho, in ubisofts chicago everyone is pretty well off, even if they look like they're homeless.
Liking the game so far (about 3 hours). It's definitely better than expected and doing missions full sneak mode is awesome.
I hate the driving in the game though, it's feels floaty and arcadey. I don't feel connected to the car or anything.
Visuals are fantastic.... at times. Night time with rain or stormy weather in general looks magnificent but daytime lighting is flat and bland to look at. Texture work and pops ins are inconsistent too and I'm playing it absolutely maxed
That pagefile trick worked, there's still some stutter but it's nowhere near as bad.

Like the sports cars, holy shit those things can move, throwing on the e brake while rounding a corner is so satisfying. I also appreciate how they can take a beating and don't blow up right away. I went on a total rampage running over every person I saw.

One thing that's bugging me, is how npc's react to what's happening.
For example when you flick the stop lights from red to green It's like a magnet goes off and draws any car in the area to vicinity. I know damn well you had time to stop yet you still rear ended that guy.
Then they get out of their cars, perfectly healthy and start screaming "No,no,no! I don't want to die!"
Idk, I wish they would exchange insurance information or something more realistic, maybe some of them could even be hit and run drivers and keep going.
also, I ran past a bus stop with a woman inside on her phone, another dude just sitting there *mind you this is seethrough plexi glass I imagine* and there's this black dude straight up pissing on the side of the bus stop, you would think someone would kick his ass for indecent exposure.

A shot I took just after finding "badboi's" true identity, both aiden and her model completely disappeared leaving only my gun, people with floating heads and arms followed.
Naturally I killed everyone. What followed was floating cars.

Also the npc ai out of combat is just dumb as shit, They literally willingly drove to their slaughter not once trying to get away or drive the other direction, almost no reactions at all to my rampage.

Also graphic wise it really is a POS on PS4. Some pop in and every texture looks like ass until you get within 10 feet of it. Not as good as ACIV and about half as good as InFamous:SS.
It's fun to play though which I suppose is the point. Spent 3 hours just stealing money from random strangers and messing with traffic lights so I've only completed the opening mission.
So at first I really thought the main character was sort of bland--the definition of bland--dress him in current trends/etc. However, part of this generic aspect also gives the game this old-school rpg kind of feel, where parts of the main hero were left characterless on purpose so the player could fill those roles.
...yes an editor would have been idea, but then you've got to factor in voice overs, etc.
