Phazon, are you going with the PS3 version, or are you waiting until you have a PS4?

Waiting for PS4 most likely.

Reviews seem pretty decent and about what I expected--8s and 7s. Meh.

#105 Edited by mjorh (779 posts) -

Gametrailers : 8.9

Gameinformer: 8.5

Gamespot : 8

IGN: 8.4

8, what a flop considering the hype and dev time.

Called it, seriously GS doesn't have the balls to give a game a 9 anymore.

Yep, these reviews feel right at place.

They save 9.0's for amazing games, like this

http://www.gamespot.com/reviews/kentucky-route-zero-act-iii-review/1900-6415756/

Carolyn Petite giving a 9.0 to some random indie game? Say it ain't so.

What are you talking about? The hype was 8. It got 8.

Dark Souls 2. Point disproven.

If you read the reviews you'll get that the scores doesn't match with the review it self u know , they mention all of these positive aspects and much less cons and they give it like 7 or 8 !

Still 8 is a great score and i don't understand why ppl call it a "flop" !

#114 Posted by I_can_haz (6551 posts) -

Good score for a good game.

People here on SW like to be stupid. 8 is a great score for a game.

nice score

my copy arrived on saturday and i have had great fun playing it so far. Invading anothers game and hiding out in random van stuck in a traffic jam watching your mark rush around like a maniac trying to find you is great fun/

Mario Kart 8 gets an 8 here and a 89 on metacritic and you call if a flop.

Watch Dogs gets an 8 and a lower score than 89 and the hype is met.

Come on GS, freekin double standards.

Well it would depend on the hype of Mario Kart 8

Wouldn't even pirate it. The game is unfinished, that much is clear. There are still dozens of glitches, and thinking in a creative manner (such as thinking outside of the box Ubisoft puts you in) gets you nowhere.

This isn't the game that was promised.

#120 Edited by gago-gago (9480 posts) -

It didn't pass the bar GTA set for open world games but it's a good start for a new IP. Also as with other "next-gen" games, I think it was mostly the graphics that got people hyped overall. Watch Dogs came but didn't conquer but it's still a solid title to check out.

It was reviewed by Kevin, plain and simple.

From the review

THE GOOD

*Hacking gives car chases and combat encounters an additional element of freedom

*Fantastic online modes provide rip-roaring fun

*Digital trips are highly entertaining, the spider-bot in particular

*Loaded with varied things to do, each of which is beautifully executed

*Some clever mission design keeps you looking forward to the next story event

THE BAD

*Inconsistent tone, inconsistent lead character

*Successful online invasions are boring

*Neither money nor reputation are all that valuable

8 isn't a bad score but when you can't really find negative points for a game and give it a 8, specially from the sound of his video review he loved the game. Which brings me to my point, GS doesn't have the balls to give games a 9 (only 3 games have gotten a 9 this year and 1 dlc got a 9), just look at their review page it's filled with 8's

Last year Watch Dogs was expected to be game of the year material in competition with GTA5, only for it to be delayed.

Mario Kart is merely was hyped to push Wii U sales (which I have confidence it will) and be another outstanding racer. Where it screwed in quality is the battle mode and that's about it. Nobody was throwing it up there for goty contender.

i meant the hype on gamespot. Floppage in SW is based on the hype in SW and the resulting GS score

If they are more stringent with the scores then it makes it more meaningful when a game gets a 9 or even a 10. Of course they would need to be somewhat consistent... so good luck with that

Oh you mean where the pc, xbox and playstation gamers hype Nintendo games as a AAA and AAAA not because they believe it but just to "LOLz you sheep got another flop!" like they did with Mario Kart 8 and wonderful 101.

If Watch Dogs was Wii U exclusive and scored an 8 it would be hammered here as a flop.

#131 Edited by Bigboi500 (29889 posts) -

Looks like I was spot on. Kevin's only negative was elements of the story not knowing if it was serious. Almost all positive. If this had the GTA tag in front of it the score would be at least a 9.

#132 Edited by freedomfreak (40558 posts) -

Game has 8 written all over it.

#133 Edited by mjorh (779 posts) -

@Ballroompirate Totally agree , Kevin mentioned a lotta pros and in proportion to that the score should've been at least 8.5.

+

I do understand ppl's expectations considering the hype but the thing that matters is we didn't end up with a bad game , it ain't no masterpiece but it's great and fun to play.

#134 Posted by Cruxis27 (1908 posts) -

Agreed. The hacking lets you take on encounters in so many different ways. I also like the driving more than I thought I would. Ton's of stuff to do in this game, I'll get my monies worth, for sure.

#139 Edited by FoxbatAlpha (7103 posts) -

There is only one thing left to do now. Play the damn thing.

#140 Edited by Speak_Low (1085 posts) -

All of the 'Cons' that I'm reading about in these reviews (driving mechanics, the need for a better story and protagonist, some repetitive missions) makes me look forward to Watch Dogs 2 even more. I'd like to see Ubisoft raising this new series to another level like they did with AC2.

I think Watch Dogs will sell very well though. Reports from the GAF thread said there were 50-80 people at some Gamestop launches. That's a lot more than anyone expected, but this could be a huge mainstream hit for Ubisoft.

Running it on high settings

@Ballroompirate: I'm on PS4, looks nice enough and for the most it runs smoothly, with a couple hiccups here and there. Load times are about what I expect from open world games, and the DS4 works great with the game.

Is it just me or are the cops pretty tough to lose? Fun stuff, gonna play all day tomorrow!

Boring score :P

Glad to hear the game is pretty decent though!

So how long till people start hammering the shit out of this like Assassin's creed 3?

#148 Posted by Boggle_Dragon (110 posts) -

I don't get the 8 = flop in general. I do get for hype threads, as in regards to wether hype was met or not. But outside of that 6> = floppage to me. I think its just a score of 8 is just getting boring at this stage.
