System Wars: 2014 is almost over, and 2015 is upon us, with all its promises of some great games for every platform currently on the market. But before we start getting excited and hyped up for what comes ahead, there is nothing wrong with looking back and appreciating what came this year either. 2014 might not have been the best year for gaming- it was especially a step down compared to 2013- but it was an awesome year nonetheless, that brought us some great games, no matter what system you owned.
So, I figured, it's time for us, as a community, to vote on our Game of the Year. Yes, every website out there does it, and those are always cool and great to see, but we always have something to say about their choices, right? So why not just have our own awards? Decided by the consensus of the community.
And how do we do that? Well, we'll be using the old System Wars Votes format for this. Here's how it will work:
- Nominate three games for Game of the Year. Make sure your nominations are in order. The first game you nominate gets 50 points. The second game gets 25 points. The third game gets 15 points. The order is very important.
Also remember, if you list more than three games, only the first three will be considered (everything else won't count). If you list less than three games, your post won't be considered. That said, you are free to list more than three games as honorable mentions, or just to discuss their merits, as long as you understand only the first three count. - Any game released this year (between December 31, 2013 to December 6, 2014, including both those dates) qualifies for a nomination.
- A game has to have released in at least two out of territories- Japan, North America, Europe/Australia- to qualify. If it only released in one territory (for example, maybe because of late localization), it does not count.
- If you edit your post, please make a list of all edits at the bottom. This will make my life much easier when tallying.
- You can only nominate a single game once. I can't believe I have to say this, but there you go.
- Please don't nominate DLC. We are looking at celebrating whole games that provided the best experience of the year, not add ons to them. You are, however, free to nominate the base game for those DLCs if the base game qualifies, and expansion packs, such as the new World of Warcraft one, also qualify.
- You have until 11.59pm Central Time on December 21 to get your votes in. That's a lot of time, so make sure you get your voice heard!
- At the end of this period, I'll tally the points, and we'll see what our Game of the Year is.
Got it? Awesome. Let's vote!
