Well, no matter how we expect it's reputation, might as well make a thread dedicated to reviews of this.

Starting with Game Informer, who gave it a 6.75.

Cheat CC - 3.3/5

The Escapist - 2.5/5

GameTrailers - 6.5/10

Joystiq - 3.5/5

Sources: GameRankings, Metacritic

Sims 3 vs 4

The Sims 4 has less items(like pool) but it has more features you can do. Sims are smarter, you can edit them, they have story, feeling, they can remember things what happened in past unlike other Sims games. The Sims 4 is just more realistic, with more features and better graphics but with less items. But The Sims 3 had also few items but all new items came with DLC.

So, this review compares The Sims 3 with all DLCs against The Sims 4.

Game Informer said that Modern Warfare 2 is best Call of Duty, and they gave latest Call of Duty game 5 out of 5 score by saying that every call of duty game adds so many new maps, so it´s totally worth 60 dollars.

It peaked at Sims 2 for me. The constant expansion packs months after the main release killed it.

Sims 2 is so outdated, so is The Sims 3.

The Sims 4 is best right now.

If you base it mainly off graphics....

EA going to milk the franchise hard like last gen with numerous content packs. I like the Sims, but **** EA, won't buy their games.

I saw this coming when they started to remove features . End of another long running franchise . Yes everybody , this is it . This is the end of Sims franchise just like Command&Conquer , Dead Space , Wing Commander , Sim City and so many others published by EA .

People are still buying it though, its the top seller on UK PC sales charts. I was hoping it would sell poorly, but then they would only blame piracy.

The Resident Evil 6 of Sims.

Worst in the Series, Best Selling Title in the Series. (yeah yeah I know RE5 sold more than 6, but still)

It's possible the sales can die down quickly. If I recall, SimCity 2013 did well at launch, but fell flat on it's ass as time went by.

No thanks, I'll just go purchase an Xbox One instead. Microsoft actually cares about their customers.

It;s a shame, because the core game is very nice, with lots of improvements, but there's so much stuff missing. Why they decided to do this is baffling. I mean, I imagine it will be very hard to convince Sims 3 folks to move into something so barren.

Nope. Sims are smarter, they do more things, they have story unlike other games where they have no memories, no emotions and stuff like that. In this game, what happens, he remembers forever. For example. When house burns down, then Sims maybe scares a little bit fire now because in memories he had bad accident with fire. So Sims is more careful and tries not repeat same mistake. Everything is better. Only there are less items.

I like the way the character clip through objects, like you you tell and funny joke or whatever while standing next to a wall they clip through the wall when they step backwards and if two people use the stairs they just walk through each other, they can also walk straight though doors if they are open. Also if you put an easel next to the wall the characters arm clips through the wall while painting.

Game needs better collision detection.

Ha Ha very funny.. >__>

People keep saying "it's just teh pools and babies missing, why are you complaining??". Go and do some actual research. Even if we ignore the 50+ missing minor features and items, the game is still a giant step backwards. Ten years ago we had a whole open world town to explore, you can go anywhere, take walks, meet people on your way to places, whatever you want.. And now we're teleporting between lots and yet the town is even smaller, there is no justifying this.

And why is Create a Style gone? Before you could make whatever kind of pattern or look for you walls, items, cloth, etc.. And now we don't even have a color wheel, just a bunch of preset colors. Not to mention that lots are now smaller and more limited, try to build something interesting now...
And about the babies this game is about simulating life, and they removed a complete phase of sims's lives, it's ridiculous.

There are also some very interesting points that I noticed in some of the videos, this one is pretty good you guys should watch it:

This also happened to some extent in Sims 2.

Also your Sims 3 vs Sims 4 comparisons seem a bit off...

First of all, Sims 3 had 3 of its launch careers with branching paths.
Second it seems to put in the lifetime reward points and count them towards traits.

This. Of course it could do with the open world and style modifications of 3 and the multitasking and easy room building of 4.

The Sims 2 was probably the peak and downfall of the series because even when the base game had improvements over the original like a complete life cycle, needs and fears and memories that randomly affected them and even had stuff from the original's expansions like house parties and community lots to hang out or go on dates, it also became obvious that with any new game they would release you would have to basically rebuy most of the same expansions packs over and over again to get content similar to what you had on previous games.

I think many of those reviewers are full of shit mainly because it's cool to hate The Sims and EA. I have The Sims 3 and had tons of fun with the base game, and I actually never had any desire to purchase the expansions. I seriously doubt The Sims 4 is so bad as those reviewers point it out.

I think the expansion pack will make up for the missing features. If worth it I may pick up sims 4 later on. So far from the gameplay videos the thing that stood out for me is the character creation. They look more appealing than sims3. I shall wait and see what kind of expansion they have this time around. I would like to see hawaii with all the big islands + halloween parade parties etc

Hmm it's like the biggest 3rd party publishers in the industry are very good at killing franchises and very bad at creating new ones.

I think it's rather funny people are rating it low like "oh, it's missing features of the previous Sim games AND their expansion packs"... hey guys, the other content is coming too, in expansion packs no doubt.
