God of War had plenty of violence and gore. Some brutal kills too.

I can think of: Dead Island, Fallout 3, New Vegas, MadWorld (dat Wii violent game), Splatterhouse (remake), Left 4 Dead 1 & 2, Dead Space 1, 2 & 3, The Darkness 1 & 2, Mortal Kombat.....there are likley more. I'm probably missing some obvious ones :P

The most brutal/Gorey game I played last gen was God of War..... I know.... Typical Right ?

I just like nice clean fun..... Which is why I need to play Splatoon one day....

Many of the games cited here I have not played, but I was shocked at how violent and gory the new Tomb Raider is. She falls into rivers of blood, she goes spelunking through tight caverns walled with skulls and impaled bodies, and she ends up unconscious in beds composed of dead bodies and decapitated limbs. It's incredibly graphic, I was not remotely aware that I was in for that.

On a somewhat unrelated note, it ended up being one of my favorite games of the year (that I played). It's really outstanding. I can't wait to play the sequel, in hopes that we'll have less fighting and more actual tombs to raid.

Nothing was more vomit-inducing for me than getting killed by those blowout doors in dead space 2. I mean jesus christ, that was f'd up. If there's honestly something more gory than that...I don't even want to know.

Posters above have already mentioned many games that are gory or brutal that I have played I don't know what it is about ripping off heads disintegrating bones and splattering the walls with blood that I find so relaxing. Probably. now this is just a guess it's because I 'm fucked up in the head.

Also, it is interesting to think of how the content has changed through the years. It used to be that gore by itself (doom, etc...) was enough to get parents writing angry letters to game designers, then games like RE4 upped the ante considerably. Now, games exist that are bloody as hell that cater to an entire audience that barely existed a decade ago.

Very true indeed, these types of games I find are great stress relievers. Better to take my fustrations out in a game than in the real world.

Nah you're not fucked up, just a horror fan. There's a big difference between playing horror/gory games than actually do horrific crimes. It's the same with movies. Everyone has a channel where he vents his frustrations, some do sports, some play the violin, some play violent games. So stop kidding yourself that there's something wrong with you. Once you can't distinguish the difference between reality and fantasy , then you might have a problem but that's still not the same as a mass murderer for instance. Even a lot of crazy people know the difference between right an wrong (well that kind of wrong anyway) and a lot of horrific crimes happen in a emotional state, like your wife cheating for instance.

I think wolfenstein was the most horrific game. I know you have it on next gen systems, but you have it on previous gen as well.

To me it was the most brutal because of the setting and because it is so believable

This. Some of the stuff in that game makes me cringe just thinking about it. Also the best shooter of the last gen, but that's another story.
