I didn't care for Skyrim, but Oblivion was great. Fallot 3 was a snooze fest with awful gameplay, so I have to go with ES.

Don't know, I really like Fallout, but I also really like cheese.
Seriously though, easily Fallout, I hate the universe in The Elder Scrolls, I JUST DON'T CARE. Fallout has an interesting universe and a better premise.
Still? After Arcania?[QUOTE="GiantAssPanda"][QUOTE="waltefmoney"]

Arcania doesn't change the fact that Gothic 1 and 2 are some of the best RPG's ever made.
Hmm ok.. I've only played 3 with the community patch. Loved it though despite its shortcomings. I guess. I've enjoyed Gothic 1, 2 and Morrowind more than Risen, but atm I'd say Risen is the best.
Im pretty good with not having to use VATS in falloutUntil they can fix the horrendous shooting in Fallout, I'm going with Elder Scrolls. I shouldn't have to use VATS to be able to hit something.

Although i find TES more fun, Fallout NV got me laid.
so Fallout.
i havent started my game in fallout NV yet, whos the neighbour hood doll i wanna get a piece of that too??almost too close to call but i like sci-fi better than fantasy so fallout.
edit: and i just cast the tying vote,.

I also loved Gothic 3 and Risen. I'm a huge fan of Piranha bytes, they are incredibly underrated wen it comes to open-ended RPGs, and Gothic 2: Gold is easily superior to Risen. And sh*ts all over Elder Scrolls.
They are basically just the same games with a few differences.
So you have to ask yourself. Would you rather have generic fantasy with clunky swordfighting or generic post-apocalyptic with clunky gunplay?
After playing skyrim which is oblivion with Mammoths, i don't want another ES for loooooong time. Enjoyed the sh*t out of F3 and Vegas was even better. Fallout hands downsilversix_Wow I'm quite the opposite. I just can't play Fallout anymore because it's too barren. TES is a better series IMO.
TES for me. I liked Fallout 3 and New Vegas but I prefer the fantasy setting of TES. I've never played the first 2 Fallout games but I have read about them and I don't think I would like them very much.
OP, did you ever play Fallout 1, 2 and New Vegas? The only TES game that grabbed me was Morrowind, and my issues with the series lie in the lack of direction and decent writing; which Morrowind made up for in expanse and rich, unique setting. Skyrim is walking along a fine line in this regard, others like Oblivion were just bad and Daggerfall hasn't held up nearly as well compared to this threads comparative title Fallout 1.skrat_01Yes of course I have, and I hated them.
What does it mean be a game being gentic? Do you mean generic?
Anyway, Fallout for me, especially if we are including 1 and 2. New Vegas is also outstanding if not for the aging engine which still can't take it away from greatness.
And people who played Fallout 3 and liked it please do yourself a favour and play New Vegas. It's so much better. If you can stand old games please try Fallout 1 and 2. These are the best RPG's I've played
Why can't there ever be a pure poll? I see "elder scrolls vs fallout" there should be 2 options, not 5.
depends on the fallout we're talking about....Interplay's Fallout or bethesda's....because bethesda's fallout pales compared to the old ones

Hoorah!
But Bethesda built a solid foundation of what Fallout should be in the modern gaming world. Obsidian improved it a whole lot more, but brought some bugs with it.
I had more fun with Fallout 3 than with Oblivion, and had more fun with Oblivion than I did Skyrim. New Vegas was okay.
What's up with people treating New Vegas like it's somethin special? Felt the exact damn same as Fallout 3. Literally like no difference besides the Hardcore mode.
MLBknights58
Uhhh no.
There are abyssal differences between Fallout 3 and NV.
NV has a much better and more fitting atmosphere, the story and writing are on another planet, the factions are actual factions and there's plenty of good characters in it.

Yes this. It's quite similair on the gameplay and foundations level but theres much more consequence in the world, much better writing, and just plain good atmosphere. The quests are awesome and the characters are hilarious, disturbing and intriguing.
Both have great worlds, but fallout 3 had bad gunplay. New Vegas improved it with aiming down the sites.
Love TES more though.
First let me say I am a fan of both series and have played Skyrim, Oblivion, and Morrowind extensively. I have also played Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics, Fallout 3 GOTY and Fallout New Vegas Ultimate. Therefore I feel I can speak intelligently about both series. While I enjoy both in my opinion Fallout is vastly superior. TES is basically a really good swords and sorcery game series. There is NOTHING wrong with that, but there is nothing unique about hat either. Fallout is set is an awesome and totally unique post apocalyptic but also alternate timeline sci fi universe that is ridiculously cool! Also the writing in Fallout all of them is vastly superior, very entertaining with a dark wicked sense of humor that is totally lacking from TES.Another thing that Fallout 3 and New Vegas do infinitely superior ot TES is combat. VATS is amazing, imho it is the finest RPG combat system ever devised! IN conclusion I believe that on the whole the Fallout series is vast superior to the Elder Scrolls!
Never really got into the Fallout series other than Fallout 3, been a huge ES fan since Morrowind so ES.
Vanilla TES 4/5 > Vanilla FO 3/NV
Modded FO 3/NV > Modded TES 4/5
I especially enjoy hyper-realistic/survival mods for FO3/NV, where headshots really feel like headshots. On the other hand, even the best combat mods for TES require a lot of constant tweaking to make the combat remotely believable.
Cannot believe all the older threads on this topic that got bumped.
Anyway, I go with Elder Scrolls. Fallout is fine for a post apocalyptic setting, but the combat is pretty limited. You can only select from an assortment of guns.
ES in its fantasy setting affords so much more variety for play styles: broad swords, sword/shield combos, dual sword wielding, archery, magic (that includes offensive, defensive, and manipulation), and even stealth approach. Plus you can choose different races with their skill and ability bonuses.

Old thread.
The Elder Scrolls.
Too few quests for Fallout, I was underwhelmed actually by the lack of quests in Fallout, but this also applied to Skyrim(lack of content in quests) which is sad.
From what's available on consoles Morrowind was my favorite open world game. Truly felt panic stumbling on a daedroth in a ruin casting some spell when I was a weakling still. I hate that auto leveling crap they're using now. They need to go back to their old formula
At this point considering Bethesda owns and ultimately controls both franchises it's more a question of whether you prefer a medieval fantasy world or a post-apocalyptic world.
I'm a sucker for post-apocalyptic, especially given the Black Isle/Obsidian made F1, F2, and FNV. Imagine how good FNV would have been if Bethesda had given Obsidian more time to work on it instead of the rushed mess we got. It's still arguably the best RPG of 7th gen.
