what kind of place doesn't check the merchandise before returning it, if they really wanted to nail the culprit then the 3DS should have a trackable serial ID that's also tracked online through the store or any MP features, just work with Nintendo to track where it has been accessing maybe they'll find the perpetrators home
Why is press talking c,rap about the 3ds, they want it to look bad or something? I bet There are 1000 + more tragic stories about the iphone/ipad out there
stores do this all the time to rip folks off. and companies.. sh!t companies do it too. often "high end" no-name power supplies have concrete in them to make them heavier or have parts made of cardboard.

Checking merchandise is standard procedure upon return at any department store. As an electronics employee at kmart, I had to approve all electronics returns. Someone should get fired.
