SW Feedback: Why haven't you voted in SW Awards?

Yeah, but you don't post much anymore. This place changes a lot from year to year. If you're not here on a regular basis, you can't really complain about not getting recognized.

I think they mean more like consistent interaction with other members. Not just posting a couple of times here and there over the course of a few years

You should, I'm sure there are some great stories there. I could only imagine the way people over react when they get some power...even if it is as meaningless as a gaming forum. I use to do clans in online games...never again. People think GS Mods are power hungry, shit try dealing with clan officers and crap.

I think that sums it up pretty well. The meaning would something like "keep it simple, stupid".

what 'disdain'? the awards thread has what like 23 posts? Disdain would infer that people actually cared.

I am merely giving my opinion on the matter, and please stop playing fast and loose with the word 'Community' the awards are called the SWAwards for EVERYONE who posts here, like I said to DL (who also reads from the same script) I have been around these parts nearly 7 years now with the post count to show for it. Don't lecture me about 'being part of the community'.

As for the awards themselves, they no longer serve a purpose, the best posters on GS are either gone or inactive and like second part of my post states, it just encourages trolls to up their game by having something to aspire to, (its clear when someone is gunning for Lem/cow king etc) sad but true.

I spose its difficult to convey tone, especially here where everyone seems to pissed off 98% of the time.

For the record, the list is shorter than last year. Considerably shorter. But no one will tell me what they don't want, or what they like.

I will say this with all sincerity: One doesn't need approval of places like the lounge, or city council or anywhere else to be part of the community. Just posting here, whether it be all day, erry day, or once in a blue moon is valid enough.

Definitely better than when he's making threads about the Vita.

When he downplays(or rightfully calls the game out, depending on your camp) the 3DS stuff is really entertaining. The same nintendo apologists fall for it everytime. And then bitch that he's consistently putting up "flame bait" or whatever. It amuses me. I have faith in this thread though. I want someones ego to be offended. Go for it Blab, be that guy.

Well, Nintendo fans are easy, but yeah, there's occasionally a gem there.

On topic, I agree. Anyone who posts here is a member of the community, and no one needs anyone else's approval. Which is part of what makes this place great.

It's Tearaway. This game has revived some creative talent I've been suppressing for ages.

It kind of does, man. I'm not saying covet e-fame. That's nonsense. Nobody fucking cares about it here. What I'm saying is this: We've lost a lot of people, and a lot of the new kids don't know who the older posters are. Hell, a lot of people have trouble remembering other people's usernames. At this point, you have to be a constant presence to be remembered. It's nothing against you, man, or anything like that. I've got nothing against you. I thought you were cool. But if you only post a few times every now and then, it's difficult for other people to recognize you.

But yeah, site traffic is a bitch. It's hard to make this work when no one is here in the first place.

Since Blab is his slow self, I'll answer.

The platform mechanics are less floaty than LBP. The use of the back panel lets your fingers poke through holes and kill enemies and help you reach places with touch controls. The game is a bit on the gimmicky side, but very creative and fun.

So it's a platformer for the most part? How overly reliant is it on its gimmicks?

Very. On occasion I'm asked to touch the front screen to roll a ribbon up or down to progress, but it's unresponsive. It doesn't happen all the time, but just enough to annoy.

Most of the gimmicks are pretty cool though, like tapping the back touch pad while your character is on a drum, then watching him bounce up to the next level.

What amazes me about the game is the imagination and creativity of a stunning and alive world made completely out of construction paper, and the excellent musical score.

I wouldn't call this place great, at all. It use to be a really nice place to come and post and get the latest gaming news for me. I use to look forward to coming here. You may ask, "then why are you still here?" To that, I say I have no clue. I just can't let it go. I'm so used to coming here and posting. People want to blame the site redesign as the reason behind this place's fall, which i do not think it was. I agree it may have been a big reason, but I think that maybe it was the last straw for many.

So much is wrong. Most new accounts are nothing but the same few people making fakeboy accounts, and there isn't enough new people to get to know. I don't have that opportunity to create relationships here, because there aren't any new people coming in.

I've seen a lot of double standards here. Say we have 2 users. User A and User B. User A is the more respected and well know user that has been in that "clique." User B is known, but not really that well respected and not in that "clique." User B makes a thread baiting people and trolling for personal laughs. People jump on him and call him out for it. User A turns around and makes his own bait thread. People laugh and think it's awesome that he is trolling people. It happens far too often.

I know some of you do not want to agree this place has one main clique. I have to disagree. I was in one in my HS and college years, I know what they look like. A couple have said, "you can't be apart of the community if you don't interact with it." That right there sends out a message that is stating that posting here isn't good enough, but you have to interact with a certain group of people. At least that is what it seems to me. Before I put on the whole persona I do now, I use to try to be apart of this so called "community." A year or so ago I would post in the lounge and my post would go unnoticed. I would post later and the same thing would happen again. So, I just gave up.

Sounds fun that and Gravity Rush I really want to try. Just need the Vita at a more throwaway price. Or that PS4/Vita Bundle someone pitched on SW. That bundle being a real thing would be cool.

The hardest part is going through the threads to come up with users for each of the nominations. But I've done it years before and I thought why the hell not?

I could probably post this in the Awards Discussion, or just PM you if you like, but here's my opinion on what should be cut. But if categories are cut then we run into a problem of so few categories that only a select few people could be the winners, taking away from the idea of a "community awards." No right or wrong cutting categories if you ask me, but here's my opinion:

• The "Bad Poetry + Pretty Pictures = Win" Award for Best Designer/Artist:
  • this one was neat back when the community had a couple of different activities promoting more designs aside from just sigs. It's a neat thought but it appears to be phoned home a lot of the time.
• The "Wait, We Still Have Blogs?" Award for Best Blog:
  • I'm all for promoting blogs further, but if we really want this category maybe we should promote a "For your consideration" section. There aren't many that "blog it" on site, and even if some do many may not know of it.
• The "How's That Novel Coming, Bro?" Award for Best Writer /// The "/Thread" Award for Best Debater:
  • Yes, these are very different categories, but they could easily be condensed into one.
• The "Tom McShea" Award for Finest Community Reviewer:
  • This is similar to the blog category. Good category, but since it takes place off of the System Wars board it can't be as recognized as other categories, thus I believe one that should be considered cut.
• The "Like A Fine Wine" Award for Best Member of the System Wars Old Guard:
  • Eh? I just personally think this category has overstayed its welcome.
• The "Grand Master Lulz" Award for Funniest User /// The "Climbing in Your Window, Snatching Your People Up" Award for Most Outgoing/Crazy User:
  • Similar categories if you ask me. They certainly are different, but I don't know if by much. If each category was further defined, maybe then it'll be fine but that's just more work to make it work when what we're looking at is cutting down.
• The "Did He Seriously Just Start Talking About Ludonarrative Dissonance?" Award for Most Intelligent User:
  • Best writer or debater perhaps?
• The "Needs Moar Charts" Award for Best Troll /// The "LOL I TROLL YOU" Award for Worst Troll:
  • When voting, I had no clue what the difference was. Was it what I was okay with and what I wasn't? Why not just a basic Troll Award or something; why continue to promote those who take away from the quality the board can be?
• The "arbitor365" Award for Mastery in the Art of Self-Ownage /// The "Michael Patcher" Award for Worst Predictions /// The "Barrel Scraper" Award for Special Recognition in the Field of Hyping Terrible Games/Systems:

  • These are all different categories but I bet two out of the three could be cut and not much would be lost.

Too many awards and not enough good users to vote for.

I'd love to get my hands on that Vita TV device that lets you play most Vita games with a controller on your TV, especially since it's only $99, but with the way it's (not) selling outside of Japan, it's unlikely we'll ever get it it over here.

So vote for the ones you think deserve it and leave the rest blank?
