While the new 3DS will allow access to the full expanded control options for the upcoming 3DS version, original 3DS owners are out of luck if they were hoping that the Circle Pad Pro could be use.
Well that a bit disappointing.:/

That is a bit odd... I still find it hard to imagine playing this game on the hand held. The game needs a proper controller and a big screen.
I would never even buy the handheld version of this game as to me SSB is all about four players couch competition. You can't do that with the handheld, lack of the circle pad support is just another reason to avoid.
It's also the version they are selling first, and no wonder.
You know what sucks, is they've no plans to release the New 3DS outside Japan anytime soon. This is also a game that will have Amiibo support but Amiibos aren't going to be out anytime soon either, and when they do come out you still can't use them because the New 3DS will be Japan only.
Super strange seeing how all the circle pad pro functions work on New 3DS.
Lazy coding?
I'm sure it's quite deliberate.
Eh. If I get this, it'll be for WiiU.
Seriously, with the games coming out in October, why the **** would anyone settle for the poverty version of a fighting game that's going to be outwith a few months anyway?
as much as it pains me to say it.... but the 3DS will be the most played version by a landslide, and its online will by far outlive the Wii-U's version.. a sad reality.

I can see someone using that as a reason to settle for less, but assuming you like playing your games at an optimal level when you have the option, why the **** would anyone willingly settle for less just because one version will be more popular?
Anyone that's seriously into the games battle engine will play it on a platform with an optimal interface and all that jazz. Plenty of fighting games have out lived Virtua Fighter 5 at this point, but that doesn't make them better fighting games. So the whole it's going to die one day thing doesn't exactly fly to me. I'd rather have the game in an ideal state for 3 years, then have a lesser game for a decade.
I never use the C stick in smash bros. Not an issue for me. Still buying Wii U edition and not 3DS, though.

Exactly this, my most-played Smash Bros. game was 64 so I always did manual smash attacks and aerials in the subsequent games. Although, c-sticking in Melee to do up-aerials is really useful because of stupid tap jump, but that's not a problem so long as Smash 4 still lets you disable tap jump.
None of this really matters anyway since I'm only getting the Wii U version.
I didn't even know this was a big deal. I never use the c stick for Smash. I didn't know it was so popular.
