RE2 - Subvert opening of original game, throw player immediately against dozens of zombies with not enough ammo to deal with them

Start off with bang, arrive at police station where slow build up begins

RE2 Remake - Open with lame gas station opening, having a tension free run to the police station

I haven't played RE4 Remake but I know you can't look look Ashely's skirt and Ada Wong sounds like a Dalek.

Feel free to brainstorm amazing insightful crap as well.

I think remakes are a good opportunity for smaller studios to pay tribute to games they found formative to their lives.

I don't like the commercialism, the cash-grab. I think remakes should be inspired and the best of both worlds: familiar, yet new.

That's obviously a very personal opinion and I don't really object to these corporate remakes, I just wish they were a bit more...independent and interpretive.

@uninspiredcup:

Having some enemies from the original game not appearing in the remake.

Also I'm going to say it, I hate how the original soundtrack to a game has to be replaced in a remake. Especially if the remake soundtrack isn't as good as the original one.

Capcom pours salt in the wound by asking for $5 to play the og soundtrack in the remakes xD

Yeah I hate that too. It's like they knew people liked the original soundtrack in the older Resident Evil games so they decided to charge them extra money in order to hear them.

Yep. Dickheadish but also clever, know assholes will pay for it even begrudgingly.

Only track of the remake thought was better than the original was Tyrant theme. About it.

Mafia original to Mafia remake.

putting cover system, Mafia 3 gunplay, terrible changes in story and character put it in all time worst remake.

RE4 remake however is GOAT remake. improve in every way.

Making the remake significantly easier than the original. If I played and completed the original why would I want it any different in the remake?

Replace originalish character designs with celebrity faces/voices, trying to make it look or sound mature and ironically making it more cringe.

Should have added remasters as well. In fact, will.

When they change stuff. :P

I prefer remasters like MPR. Keep everything in tact, but make it prettier.

While I liked the character design changes in Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition, I did not like the updated versions of the original music.

Not everything. It's missing the Fusion Suit... and the credits of the GameCube staff (which included Miyamoto and Iwata).

Remasters that are worse than originals.

Far Cry 3 Classic is downright unplayable to me over its atrocious audio quality, mix of low quality audio and everything sounding mono, no sense of audio direction or distance, utterly ruins it for me. What's worse is Ubisoft never fixed any of the issues.

Or Toy Soldiers got remastered on consoles and to be honest the XBLA version I own looks and plays better than remaster. The remaster color is off, control issues, very pixelated, major gmitches took them half a year to iron out. Everything feels substandard to the original from the game menu to the game itself.

I agree with RE2 remake. Too many puzzles in the police station. I think after the police station the game ends, lol.

When they don't modernise certain parts of the original.

Take TLOUP1 as the perfect example a remake of the second best game of all time.

TLOU2 released 7 full years (a whole generation) later and beleive it or not managed to surpass it mechanically. The combat/stealth gameplay options were improved by adding the ability to dodge and prone. as well as introduced several new melee weapons and firearms.

I wish ND had included all the new weapons from TLOU2, added the dodging and prone mechanics and redesigned the levels and enemy encounters to make it more balanced.

This would have required a lot more work of course, but this way we would get one singular game with the best gameplay ever, and the best story ever. TLOUP1 would be consensus greatest game of all time.

Guess we will have to wait for the PS6's TLOUP3-engine remake of TLOUP1.

This isn't exclusive to ND and TLOU, but it is the only example I can think of.

I will apply the exact same logic if Dark Souls 1 gets remade. I will be deeply saddened if From Software or Bluepoint remakes the original Dark Souls but doesn't add weapon arts, guard counters, and speed of DS3/Elden Ring combat to the remake.

obviously all the enemies and bosses will have to be completely re-done from the ground up. new weapon art for every single weapon.

Just a glorified mansion.

When people think of RE2 they still think of it as a city, but lucky if that's even 5% of the game.

The Remake adds 1-2 new sections where you do go back outside again but it's super linear, brief and the sections generally aren't very good.

Resident Evil 3s the one that entirely takes place outside for the most part.

RE4 remake has become one of my top 10 favorite games ever with how jam-packed it is with exciting situations both enhanced from the original and new stuff. That being said, Leon moves like a fatboy compared to the older version and Ada's voice sounds bored and old. Oh well, still a very excellent remake.

FF7R did well when it stuck to the source material and built on it.

The extra bits with ghosts and some alternate dimension time travel stuff....and that other guy with the bike.....what on earth is that about?

@osan0: Roche I didn't mind so much because that was always a weird thing in the original, that there weren't any other members of soldier that we saw. It's talked about so much in the original and then all you saw was sephiroth and cloud.

Then in the remake aerith's mom even explains soldier as those that gave up their mind or sanity for power, and then we get to see that in Roche as he is fittingly very strong but also crazy when he attacked his own side.
