Study: Gamers prefer PS4 over Xbox One

Gamers prefer the Sony PlayStation 4 over the Microsoft Xbox One, according to a survey released by the consumer website DealNews. The news came out slightly more than three months after the consoles were released.

In a recent survey of more than 1,700 gamers, it seems brand loyalty played a large role in the sales of the two next-generation video game consoles. Fifty-one percent of gamers who already owned a PlayStation 3 have bought a PS4; 42 percent of gamers who owned Xbox 360 bought a Xbox One. Only 14 percent of Xbox 360 owners decided to jump ship and pick up a PS4, whereas 8 percent of PS3 owners decided to buy an Xbox One instead.

Nearly two-thirds of gamers that owned both a PS3 and Xbox 360 bought a PS4, DealNews said; less than a quarter decided to get a Xbox One.

Looking beyond the numbers, the number one reason a previous-generation gamer hasn't yet purchased a next-gen system - whether it be one, the other, or both - is price.

"... there were notably a higher number of former Xbox 360 users who didn't purchase any new console yet, claiming that the price was too high and that they were waiting for a deal." DealNews' Features Director Lindsay Sakraida said.

Sony's PlayStation 4 sells for $399. Microsoft's Xbox One sells for an additional $100 with a MSRP of $499.

What if a PS4 owners console of choice is a Xbox ONE? I could easily see how that could be the case. I should have worded my statistic differently.

Even so, we all get the point.

Xbox gamers waiting for that price drop. MS make it happen.

There is zero reason to spend money on the xbox one right now. The biggest game in 2014 is a port of a game that runs much superior on PC.

I wonder which console would win if the X1 price got it price cut to 400$ ?
